Wow, man, you're amazing! You actually survived that?

He was able to jump out of the car on the spot because he was sitting in the passenger seat, and the sidewalk was just a few dozen centimeters away. But Elliott was at least several meters away from the safe zone, making his escape much more difficult than his own. The fact that he survived proves that he is really good at fighting.

"I was lucky to run into a kind neighbor who brought me to the hospital." Mason didn't hide anything and simply explained the situation. "I was just wheeled into a ward now. How about you?"

"Hmph... If I hadn't run fast, I would have been turned into a meat patty by now."

Elliott clicked his tongue in extreme annoyance: "Those idiots at Great Lakes Prison are a complete waste of tax money. They can make such a mess of something as simple as transferring prisoners. I want to see if they can afford the damage caused by a few lunatics running rampant in the city."

Great Lakes Prison?

Although I've never heard of it, judging from Elliott's words, it's probably the place where the rhinoceros man, the vulture, the scorpion, and others were imprisoned before.

Well, you're asking too much of a question, buddy. You know, villains escaping during prison transfers is a staple of all kinds of works, and for it to happen in the Marvel Universe... well, it's not surprising at all.

"Congratulations on surviving—by the way, that's not our business."

Mason chuckled twice, adopting a nonchalant attitude like someone lying under a blanket on a bridge, and said, "Right now, all I care about is my bonus—damn it, facing two life-or-death crises in one day, one of which was completely unwarranted, and now I'm lying in a hospital bed wrapped up like a mummy. If I could, I really don't want to hear about another headache."

He deliberately didn't lower his voice, and sure enough, the somewhat sensational content attracted Lorna's attention.

Although there are no plans yet, it's never a bad thing to make an impression on this respectable man's daughter.

Mason then turned to meet her gaze, gave her a polite smile, and continued talking to Elliott.

"You really dare to say that, kid."

Mason's plan was to test Elliott's attitude towards him. Whether he was furious or sarcastic, he could adjust his approach accordingly. But to his surprise, after hearing his words, Elliott gave a wry smile, and his tone softened considerably.

"...Forget it, it's my choice to go down this path, so I can say the responsibility lies with me—just rest in the hospital for a few days, a week or two, it's up to you, just treat it as a vacation. Take a picture of the diagnosis and send it to me, and as for everything else...I'll take care of it for you."

He sighed and said, "Consider it repaying old Karen's favor—"

The call was abruptly ended as soon as the words were spoken.

Eh?

What's going on? Why is he acting like such a concerned elder?

Old Karen... you mean the old Hydra who adopted Cecilia, right?

Mason instinctively sensed a hint of nagging.

After all, Hydra members are human too, and it's not hard to understand that their interpersonal relationships are a bit complicated. Although he can't remember it yet, it's obvious that there's a story behind it.

Looks like there's one more thing to do...

Mason shrugged and tossed his phone aside.

Since that's what they said, he'll just do as they say. As the saying goes, if there's fish, don't touch turtles. Anyway, he didn't plan to stay in Hydra for long. Why should he work overtime like he's on steroids?

The worst-case scenario is that Elliott is actually setting a trap for him, but don't forget, he has the ability to summon once a day. As long as he draws a reliable card during his stay in the hospital, he doesn't need to be too afraid of such mortal-level schemes.

Gambling, all in, it's not shameful.

Having made up his mind, Mason collapsed onto his hospital bed.

..............................

And so, Mason's first day of his journey came to an end.

There was no horror story of a group of Hydra agents bursting into the ward with guns and pointing them at him, saying he'd been arrested for slacking off. He rested for a bit, bought a sandwich and milk for dinner, and also spent three hundred dollars to buy a cell phone from a young man because he was worried that his own phone might have tracking software or something similar on it.

And so, he roughly checked out the history of this world on various websites, finally freeing himself from the aimless guessing and stumbling around like a headless fly.

There are many things I've discovered; let me tell you about them one by one.

There wasn't much difference between ancient history and Mason's knowledge from his previous life. The point of divergence occurred during World War II—Captain America led the Howling Commandos to thwart the Nazi plot to rule the world, and then heroically sacrificed himself—normally he should have become frozen old meat, but this kind of thing definitely can't be Googled.

During the Cold War, the concept of mutants came to the forefront of history. Charles Xavier led the X-Men in numerous confrontations with Eric Lansheer until 1973, when Magneto was thwarted by Mystique during his assassination attempt on the president. Since then, the Brotherhood of Mutants and the X-Men have not had any large-scale conflicts—at least not openly.

Incidentally, Mason found a picture of Professor Charles on the official website of Xavier's Academy for Gifted Youngsters—he looked so familiar that if he didn't know he had traveled through time, he would have thought he was looking at a still from a Patrick Stewart movie.

But given Lorna's experience in the next bed, this wasn't anything to be shocked about.

The mutant incident didn't deviate too much from what he knew about the X-Men movies, but there was a problem—that is, the mutant ancestor Apocalypse didn't appear in the 1980s, was he still asleep, or had something else happened to him? This is something that can't be found on the public internet.

As the 21st century dawned, society calmed down from the turmoil caused by mutants. Although cases involving mutants still occurred from time to time, the conflicts did not escalate to the point of causing serious social problems.

Mason speculated that this might be because some other big guy had done something far more terrifying than the mutants—

At the end of the last century, the great war between the Human Torch and Namor resulted in the destruction of several coastal towns. The existence of the underwater civilization Atlantis nearly triggered World War III. It was only through the joint efforts of various forces that the Earth's surface was not reduced to ruins before the millennium.

A few years ago, the battle between Hulk and Abomination nearly destroyed half the city, and the military's pursuit only resulted in both sides disappearing in different places.

A few years ago, the conflict between the Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom created a crater along the Manhattan waterfront that resembled a nuclear explosion, which could have caused tens of thousands of casualties if the evacuation had not been timely.

Besides these major events, various smaller-scale disturbances also emerged one after another. Mason easily found the names of more than twenty superheroes with a simple search, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain Britain, Wonder Man, Ant-Man, Daredevil, Punisher, and a series of other famous figures. There were so many villains that he wanted to commit suicide just by looking at them. There were even urban legends such as a flaming leather-clad skeleton that appeared at midnight and a flying cape man who wore his underwear on the outside.

In short, this seems to be a world somewhere between comics and live-action films. As for whether it's dangerous, it is indeed dangerous, but at least it's not terrible yet. There are no zombie viruses, Cthulhu mythos, evil gods, or even the like that massacre the Marvel Universe.

...At least not now.

This is at least a small consolation, though.

Anyway, as long as I don't die tomorrow, there's always room for me to grow.

That's how he comforted himself.

After a sleepless night, Mason wheeled himself into the hospital restroom and, with a forced sense of positivity, began today's summons.

He first offered a multitude of prayers to all the gods in the heavens, even choosing an auspicious time to try and make the most of metaphysics—

But reality gave him a cruel slap in the face.

A few minutes later, Mason stared blankly at the fairy wand in his hand, lost in thought.
