Although I haven't fully figured it out yet, it should basically be following the path of absorbing energy to strengthen itself.

While it's not exactly a rare ability, it feels strangely familiar in the Marvel universe—if I were a mutant, I'd suddenly have a feeling of having the same ability as Sebastian Shaw.

Now it's really not a good idea to show up in front of Magneto. If it triggers the old man's PTSD, things could get out of hand.

The relief and comfort after the pain subsided made Mason breathe a sigh of relief, and then he turned his attention to other things.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and the NYPD have already entered the hospital and will probably be in this ward in a minute or two at most. Before that, I do have something to take care of.

Mason, leaning on his cane, walked to Lorna's bedside and reached out to pat her cheek.

In the blink of an eye, a blackish-green, smoke-like spherical shockwave spread outwards from her center.

The IV stand, cell phone, and all sorts of metal objects were pushed backward like magnets being propelled by the same magnetic poles. Mason didn't react in time and his cane flew away. If he hadn't already been sitting on the bed, he probably would have collapsed on the spot.

I didn't have this reaction when I helped you lie down...

Then, Lorna suddenly opened her eyes, quickly looked around, and raised her hand as if she was about to use violence, but she was clearly stunned when she saw Mason.

"...What happened?"

She blinked and asked, puzzled.

"Ah... that's a bit difficult to explain. Simply put, a passing superhero defeated the ninja and saved us?"

Mason sighed. "The crisis is probably over. You can put your hand down now."

"What?" She sat up, about to say something, when she suddenly twitched her nose, her eyes, which had just calmed down, immediately sharpened again. "Such a strong smell of blood? What happened? How many people died?"

Seeing that her emotions were becoming more and more agitated, Mason's heart, which had just been at ease, was in suspense again. Just as he was about to say something to comfort her, he suddenly saw her look sharply towards the door, and her arm pointed in that direction as well.

At this distance, Mason could clearly see the process of her activating her ability—a thin, dark green mist swirled around her palm, changing shape like a magnetic fluid. As the mist expanded with a heartbeat-like motion, a powerful impact grazed Mason's face and surged outwards.

Wait, who are you hitting?

Mason immediately turned around, only to see this scene at the doorway—

Scarlett Jansen... no, in this case, it should be Natasha Romanoff, hovering two steps from the entrance with her feet off the ground, her face contorted in pain, her already slender waist constricted into a shocking curve by an abnormally tight belt.

"Uh... gurgle..."

If it weren't for the faint screams that were still coming out of her mouth and the struggles in her hands and feet, Mason would have suspected that she had been strangled to death.

The whole process probably took less than two seconds. Natasha struggled to raise her pistol and fired several shots at Lorna. Heaven knows how she managed to maintain her accuracy in that state, but all three bullets flew toward Lorna's head.

However, the headshot tragedy did not occur. Just like when Agent Smith was shooting at Neo, the bullets hovered in mid-air just before hitting Lorna, instantly losing their kinetic energy and falling onto the bed as two ordinary copper blocks.

Why weren't you this good when we were fighting the ninjas earlier, sis?

Startled, Mason didn't have time to think and immediately reached out and pressed Lorna's hand down.

As if her spell had been interrupted, the power that had kept Natasha levitating vanished instantly. She lurched forward, falling to the ground in a rather disheveled manner, tears welling in her eyes as she coughed violently, a wisp of saliva even lingering at the corner of her mouth… in a rather strange way.

But the conflict between the two sides did not end there. Lorna was surrounded by black and green mist and was about to launch a second attack, while Natasha struggled to raise her arm and was about to fire again.

Damn it, why did it turn out like this?

After a lightning-fast thought process, Mason made his decision.

"Don't be impulsive! We're all on the same side!"

Mason raised his arm and shouted, which seemed to have some effect, slightly diverting the attention of the two who were about to fight to the death. Seeing this, he simply jumped off the bed and stood between them, blocking their view: "Stop!"

Hearing this, Lorna hesitated for a moment, then turned her head and looked over Mason's body at the woman lying on the ground.

...He doesn't really resemble the ninja from before, huh?

In an instant, her expression froze.

Natasha was also stunned by this turn of events, her hand hesitating as she raised her gun. This gave Mason time to act—he immediately blurted out, "I am Level 4 Agent Cecil Lee Mason—this is the mutant Lorna Dane. We were just attacked by the ninjas at the hospital; she's mistaken!"

"?"

Natasha paused for a moment, then turned her head and looked repeatedly at Mason and Lorna, who wished she could bury her head in the ground. Her expression changed from ferocity to confusion, and then to an abstract look, as if she had been mistaken for a tree stump and peed on by a dog while squatting on the ground playing on her phone.

The hand holding the gun trembled slightly.

She came to check if there were any ninjas hiding in the hospital, but after searching almost the entire second floor, she only found a large number of patients who were too afraid to leave their rooms because of the bloody scenes in the corridor. She couldn't help but lower her guard a little - and as a result, she was ambushed as soon as she stepped into this VIP ward.

It's fair to say that if Mason hadn't intervened, this legendary S.H.I.E.L.D. agent would probably have had to find a doctor and arrange a hospital room on the spot.

She resisted the urge to fire again, and stood up, clutching her waist and looking pained.

"Are you a Level 4 agent?"

"I got involved in an incident a few days ago and am receiving treatment here."

Mason scratched his head and sighed, "And then this happens... I guess I'm just unlucky."

"...So what did you see happening at the hospital?"

Despite her back pain, Natasha quickly grasped the key point in Mason's words, frowning before pressing for an answer, "Including how those ninjas died?"

"You saw part of it, didn't you?" Mason nodded, then immediately feigned weakness, saying, "It was terrifying. Dozens of ninjas were blown to pieces in an instant."

"very good."

Natasha's eyes widened: "If what you're saying is true, report directly to the chief when you get back to the station. This matter is currently a top priority, and any intelligence is crucial."

Highest priority?

Ma'am Fucks reacted quickly, which suits me just fine.

"I understand!" Mason readily agreed, then glanced back and lowered his voice, saying, "She seems to be connected to the X-Men. Just this afternoon, Wolverine Logan Howlett came to visit her—"

He didn't finish his sentence, but with Natasha's shrewdness, she was sure she understood what he meant.

"..."

Natasha paused again, then sighed and said, "Anyway, if you know the situation, come with me first."
