The Australian Revolution of 1828

Chapter 19: Gao Mingcheng

The next morning, Gao Jingyi was full of energy, her face was fair and rosy, like a ripe red apple, crisp and delicious, making people's mouths water.

Add to that her rounded front and shapely back, and her slender waist, and she's practically a tiger that bites—it's deadly!

Fortunately, Han Qingyun was still fast asleep and did not notice the beautiful scenery. Otherwise, the two of them could have created another masterpiece that would have shocked the world!

Unfortunately, Han Qingyun was not fortunate enough to miss the chance to become an immortal.

Once dressed, all the beautiful scenery had vanished, returning to nature, perfectly natural. Gao Jingyi shook the sleeping Han Qingyun awake from his bed, urging, "Husband, it's time to get up!"

Han Qingyun, being a mortal, could see clearly that it was already dawn.

To be honest, after last night's continuous work, Han Qingyun's sleep quality improved so much that he didn't want to get out of bed.

However, thinking about what he needed to do today, Han Qingyun quickly got up.

With Gao Jingyi's help, Han Qingyun changed into a dignified and elegant official robe, appearing noble and solemn. Gao Jingyi, too, wore a lady's attire, exuding grace and breathtaking beauty.

I guess she cares too much about Gao Mingcheng, her relative, which makes her seem a bit pretentious!

Gao Mingcheng, Gao Jingyi's older brother, was born on June 11, 1799, in Yongping Prefecture, Zhili Province. He is currently 29 years old, 8 years older than Gao Jingyi.

At this moment, she was staying in a Chinese-style courtyard house in the inner city, not far from the Governor's Mansion, about 200 meters away. Although the distance was not far, the grandeur of the Governor's Mansion still had to be observed, especially since it was arranged by Gao Jingyi.

The two left the governor's mansion and rode in a carriage to the entrance of the residence. Without being announced by a servant, they went straight into the residence.

The servant in charge of attending to Gao Mingcheng received the news and quickly relayed it to him.

It was likely that Gao Jingyi had already sent someone to inform him, and Gao Mingcheng had made preparations well in advance. Upon hearing the message from the servant, he hurriedly came out of the room to greet him.

Upon seeing Han Qingyun dressed in a magnificent official robe and accompanied by his graceful younger sister, Gao Mingcheng knew that Han Qingyun was the master of this place. He quickly stepped forward and said, "This humble subject, Gao Mingcheng, greets Governor Han and Madam Han."

As he was speaking, he knelt down on the ground.

Gao Jingyi, who was standing nearby, didn't stop him. After Gao Mingcheng bowed, she stepped forward to help him up, saying, "Brother, the ground is cold, get up quickly!"

Although five years had passed, Gao Jingyi still recognized her former brother at a glance.

Suppressing her excitement at seeing him, she said, "My husband, let's go inside and talk!"

As long as the person received by the immigration agency is legitimate and not an imposter, whether Han Qingyun is present or not is no longer important.

Moreover, at the moment when the siblings reunited, Han Qingyun felt somewhat superfluous and said, "Jingyi, today is a happy day. You two siblings sit down and chat slowly. I'll wait for you in the front hall!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Han Qingyun left on his own, leaving the brother and sister to their own devices.

Of course, Gao Jingyi's maid did not leave, but stayed behind to serve her. It wasn't that she suspected the siblings were having any private conversations, but rather it was the custom of wealthy families.

Furthermore, Han Qingyun is a very suspicious person who knows very little about Gao Mingcheng and is not entirely at ease with him.

Correspondingly, Han Qingyun would not trust anyone without absolute certainty, not even Gao Mingcheng, who was Gao Jingyi's relative!

However, he would not disturb them during this time of reunion, so as not to affect Gao Jingyi's mood.

After waiting for about half an hour, Gao Jingyi and Gao Mingcheng finally finished their conversation and rushed to the front hall.

Looking at the face that had just been crying, Han Qingyun took out a handkerchief from his pocket, handed it to her, and said softly, "Why are you crying again?"

Gao Jingyi took it without hesitation, not hiding her excitement, and said, "I'm just so happy!"

"I hadn't seen my older brother for many years, and I couldn't control myself when we met."

The bond between family members is hard to describe; it's mostly driven by emotion, unless one is a monster devoid of feelings. Han Qingyun could understand this and tried her best to mend the sibling relationship, saying, "Since you're happy, go out more."

"It's not easy for my elder brother to come all this way, so please keep him company and talk to him these next few days. If he's willing to stay in Hanyang, it might ease the tension between you and your sister."

The conversation naturally shifted to Gao Mingcheng. Gao Jingyi, feeling a sense of unease, tried her best to facilitate the conversation, saying, "Big brother, what are your thoughts?"

"Do you want to go back to the mainland to live, or do you want to stay in Hanyang?"

Gao Jingyi was very concerned about Gao Mingcheng's future.

However, some things can't be viewed that way. Gao Mingcheng also had his own concerns, saying, "Jingyi, I haven't made up my mind yet. Your sister-in-law and nephew are still on the mainland, and I'm worried about them. If you hadn't written to me about many things from our childhood, I wouldn't have dared to come over. I'm worried that if something happens, your sister-in-law and nephew will be left without anyone to take care of them."

It's only natural to care about family, so Han Qingyun didn't force him. He said, "If you want to go back, that's fine. The immigration ship will be going to the mainland soon, and I'll arrange for you to go back then."

Gao Mingcheng was a farmer who never expressed his thoughts to officials.

Now, suddenly meeting the governor of Hanyang, he couldn't help but feel a little uneasy and nervous, and stammered, "This humble subject thanks Your Excellency!"

As the head of the prefecture, Han Qingyun was certainly not petty and would say the proper polite words, saying, "We're all family, no need to thank me."

"Jingyi is getting married on the 21st. Since you're already here, why don't you attend her wedding ceremony before you go back?"

Gao Mingcheng was ultimately a commoner, lacking the confidence to look officials in the eye. He obediently replied, "This humble subject obeys."

The difference in their social status created a barrier in their conversation, and Han Qingyun had no better solution than to say, "You're not from Hanyang, so you don't need to be so reserved. Just call me Qingyun from now on."

He still had to maintain appearances, but Gao Mingcheng, used to being a commoner, didn't dare to call him by his name directly. He waved his hands repeatedly in refusal, saying, "This humble commoner wouldn't dare."

Seeing that Gao Mingcheng couldn't accept the difference in their social status, Han Qingyun didn't insist. Instead, he changed his mind and said, "Alright, you can stay here for now. After Jingyi marries into the family, I'll personally arrange for you to go back."

"I have some things to do this afternoon, so I'll have to stay. I'll treat you to a welcome-back dinner tonight! If you want to go out, have them come with you, but don't let anyone bully you!"

Things that need to be arranged still need to be arranged, lest Gao Mingcheng doesn't understand the rules here and gets bullied, which would only cause trouble for Gao Jingyi.

Upon seeing her elder brother, the sibling bond was renewed, and Gao Jingyi returned to the mansion with Han Qingyun.

On the way, Gao Jingyi still wanted Gao Mingcheng to stay, so she sought Han Qingyun's opinion, saying, "Husband, I want my brother to stay and help you with your work!"

It would be good if they stayed; Han Qingyun welcomed such relatives by marriage. With a little training, once they proved their abilities, they would essentially become Han Qingyun's trusted lieutenant.

Don't forget, the fate of maternal relatives is intertwined; they rise and fall together.

However, these things can't be forced; they require winning someone's heart. Han Qingyun reminded him, saying, "Your sister-in-law and nephew are still on the mainland."

Gao Jingyi was full of confidence and had her own methods. She said, "Husband, I'll handle this. I'll definitely persuade my brother to immigrate to Hanyang!"

Seeing Gao Jingyi's confidence, Han Qingyun didn't refuse. He spread his hands and said, "Okay, I'll leave it to you. You handle it!"

On the way, the two reached an agreement on Gao Mingcheng's matter, and Gao Jingyi would be responsible for carrying it out. As for whether it would ultimately succeed, it was highly likely that there wouldn't be any problems.

In the afternoon, Han Qing was handling official business in her office, while Gao Jingyi was busy meeting up with her former friends!
