Chapter 103 I Want to Be a Streamer!
Tang Xiaotao's Observation Diary, Day 1.
Time: Morning.
Subject of observation: My brother.
Status: Suspected of being possessed by an unknown creature, or hallucinating after accidentally eating some kind of mushroom.
Today's guy is absolutely! Extremely! Special! Abnormal!
While he was making breakfast today, he was humming a song, but you couldn't make out what it was. And that wasn't all; when he was frying eggs, he almost flipped them onto the range hood, and while heating up the soy milk, he was tapping his toes to the beat—he was practically flying around the kitchen!
Then, when he saw me, he actually gave me a really greasy smile!
That wasn't a normal smile my brother had! His mouth was practically stretched to his cheekbones, and his whole face radiated an utterly idiotic aura. Then he said to me in a high-pitched voice:
"Oh, my dear sister, good morning! Come and enjoy the breakfast I've prepared with love and sunshine!"
This isn't my brother. This is definitely not my brother who is mostly expressionless and occasionally has a dead fish-like look in his eyes.
Why did I hear a girl crying in the next bedroom last night? Why was my older brother making strange laughter on the sofa late at night? Why did he change the subject after I discovered him? And why was he behaving so strangely this morning?
Is this a sign of moral decay or a distortion of human nature?
The whole incident is shrouded in mystery; will the truth ever come to light?
Stay tuned for the next episode, "Detective Xiao Tao: The Perverted Older Brother!"
After GG, things get even more exciting...
Tang Xiaotao sat at the dining table, picking up a steamed bun while imagining a detective show in her mind.
Just as she was lost in thought, she saw Ye Shu float past her, moving so fast that he created a gust of wind, and arrive at An Suxue's bedroom door.
They were moving so fast that anyone who didn't know better would think they were rushing to claim an award.
Ye Shu raised her hand and knocked on the door; the sound was so subtle it made it seem like there were at least three plus signs:
"Get up! Breakfast is ready! It'll get cold soon!"
"Well......"
Tang Xiaotao, holding the steamed bun in her hand, shivered violently, almost spilling the filling. Seeing her brother like this, Tang Xiaotao had already made up her mind: maybe she should just buy a ticket and go back to school for her internship...
For the sake of my mental health for the next few decades, and to preserve the last bit of noble image of my older brother in my heart...
Just as Ye Shu finished his cloyingly sweet wake-up call and was about to savor a sweet memory, his phone rang in his pocket.
But Ye Shu didn't seem to have changed his mind for a moment. He took out his phone and answered it without even looking at the caller ID. Then a greasy, slightly husky "Hey~" was transmitted to the other end of the phone.
"beep......"
The other side got eliminated immediately.
Ye Shu blinked, looking at the black phone screen and her own face still grinning foolishly on the screen, before realizing what had happened.
A few seconds later, the phone rang again, and the screen displayed two words: "Han Yang".
This time, Ye Shu composed himself, cleared his throat, and then answered:
"Feed?"
On the other end of the phone, Han Yang seemed startled, and upon hearing Ye Shu's voice, he said:
"Holy crap, who answered the phone just now? I was so scared! That noise... it sounded just like the eunuch in that TV drama my mom was watching last night, so shrill and high-pitched. I thought I dialed the wrong number."
Ye Shu grinned on the other end of the phone, her toes digging tightly into her slippers:
"Huh? No...no, cough, maybe...a cross-connection? Signal interference?"
One dared to speak, the other dared to believe. Han Yang, on the other end of the phone, didn't doubt Ye Shu's explanation, and just muttered to himself:
"Can phone lines still be cross-connected these days?"
Ye Shu rubbed her face and forcefully changed the subject:
"Why are you calling me so early? What's up? If not, I'll hang up now, I'm busy."
"No, no, no, something's wrong, something's wrong."
Han Yang quickly interrupted:
"Let me tell you, about that live-streaming sales thing we talked about before, I've been nurturing this account for a few days now, and I feel like it's about time to test the waters. I've got everything ready, but I'm still a little nervous. It's a bit awkward to just ramble on in front of the camera by myself. You've been off work these past few days, right? You're free anyway, so come over and give me some encouragement and support."
"Huh? Today..."
Ye Shu glanced at his younger sister who was eating steamed buns, then at An Suxue's bedroom door, and said:
"Okay, when will it start airing?"
Han Yang laughed as soon as he heard that:
"You can come at noon today, it starts this afternoon. Meet me at my supermarket first, I need to pick up some stuff from the store, then we'll go to the live stream studio together. Don't worry, I won't let you work for nothing, I'll treat you to a meal tonight!"
After saying that, Han Yang didn't waste any more words and hung up the phone.
Putting down his phone, Ye Shu looked a little embarrassed at Tang Xiaotao, who was sitting next to him at the dining table with an expression that said, "I've seen through everything all along."
"Um... sis, it seems like I can't take you out to play again today, there's been a bit of an unexpected situation."
Tang Xiaotao swallowed the last bite of the steamed bun, then slowly drank a sip of soy milk before raising her eyes and asking:
"Why? In your condition, how could anything happen? Shouldn't you be floating in the sky? Is it because the wind is too strong today, and you're afraid of being blown away?"
Ye Shu automatically ignored Tang Xiaotao's complaints and explained the reason:
"A friend of mine is going to do a live-streaming sales event this afternoon. It's his first time doing this, so he's a bit unsure and asked me to come and help him out."
"live streaming?"
Tang Xiaotao, who had just said she didn't want to hear your explanation, lit up immediately upon hearing those two words. She leaned forward, resting her head on the dining table, and asked:
"Live-streaming sales? The kind where you appear on camera? Bro, take me! Take me to see it! I want to go! I promise I'll behave and not cause trouble! I want to learn!"
"Still studying? What are you studying for? Does your school even teach this?"
At this point, Ye Shu remembered what his aunt had mentioned on the phone a couple of days ago, and he looked at Tang Xiaotao and asked:
"By the way, my aunt called me before and said that you skipped the internship arranged by the school and insisted on doing something on your own. When asked what you wanted to do, you didn't explain it to the family. When you told me, what exactly did you want to do?"
As soon as his younger sister's future plans were mentioned, Ye Shu's fatherly instincts kicked in.
Tang Xiaotao's excitement hadn't subsided yet. She slightly raised her chin, her face showing a mix of pride and mystery, and announced her well-thought-out grand plan:
"I! Want! To! Be! A! News Broadcaster!"
The air was quiet for a moment.
Looking at the way his sister's eyes were shining, Ye Shu knew she wasn't joking.
"As a streamer... what will you stream?"
Ye Shu had made up his mind. If Tang Xiaotao dared to mention anything suggestive about being a livestreamer, he would immediately call his aunt and uncle. He couldn't control others, but he absolutely couldn't allow it against his own sister.
As a result, Tang Xiaotao reached out, picked up a chopstick, and held it in front of her mouth, gesturing with it a couple of times:
"Singing on live stream, how great!"
Ye Shu looked at the chopsticks in her hand, then at the eager expression on her sister's face, and for a moment she didn't know what to say.
Encourage her?
Is this industry really that easy to get by in now? How fierce is the competition? How murky is it? She's just a young girl who hasn't even graduated from university yet, and she's still naive. What if she gets taken advantage of...?
Hit her?
Looking into her younger sister's eyes, she just couldn't bring herself to say, "You don't want to," or "Stop making a fuss." Wasn't she at the age where she should be daring and bold? Back then, she herself... well, she didn't seem to have any particularly bold dreams.
But no matter what, it seems a bit too cruel to just throw cold water on it.
Ye Shu spent a long time organizing her thoughts, finally finding a more tactful way to persuade him using a roundabout tactic:
"Xiaotao, well... being a streamer, especially a singing streamer, isn't just about singing a song. It requires... a lot of things. Besides, this is a career plan, so shouldn't we be more careful? Maybe we should finish our schoolwork first, gain some social experience, and then consider trying it out in our spare time as a side job..."
Just as Ye Shu was still earnestly trying to persuade him, the bedroom door behind him was opened.
"Well, if the child wants to try it, let her try."
