Chapter 62 The Dead Doctor
The room was small, with every inch of space crammed with basic medical supplies.
The shelves were piled high with bandages, and various bottles and jars with messy labels were crammed together, containing murky plasters and all sorts of reagents.
The doctor wore a linen robe, a plain-colored headscarf, and a small badge with his identification pinned to his chest.
Roy's gaze swept across the shelves, which contained topical anti-inflammatory medications, oral analgesics, and drugs for cough, diarrhea, and itching—covering most common ailments.
However, the purity of these medicines was not very good. In fact, the bottle of medicine to relieve sore throat contained dirt and hay, so it was still unknown whether it was safe to drink.
Then, his gaze shifted to the two ceramic vases on the table.
This is the plaster that the boy mentioned earlier.
As he expected, one was an anesthetic and the other was a hemostatic agent, and both were extremely pure with negligible impurities.
This is not a product that current technology could create.
Looking at the doctor again, his skin was loose, he looked to be about fifty years old, and his head drooped listlessly.
The Eye of True Sight swept over.
The stats on a typical adult's stat panel are balanced, and the skill bar is clearly displayed; there's nothing particularly special about it.
and many more?
Nothing special?
Roy was startled and his gaze returned to the skill bar.
Agriculture, cooking, cattle raising...
This is a doctor!?
He's clearly a farmer!
Just as he was about to unleash a torrent of curses, his gaze shifted downwards and suddenly fixed on the status bar.
I rubbed my eyes.
Strange.
He looked at the doctor who gestured for him to sit down. The doctor's face was lively, though he couldn't hide his weariness, but his eyes were clear and sharp.
Then look at the two words on the status bar.
—The corpse.
His expression was strange.
His mind focused on the word "corpse," which rippled through him, releasing new information.
Time elapsed since death: 6431 days.
Roughly speaking, it's been almost eighteen years.
What kind of ancient corpse is this?!
Seeing that he didn't move, the doctor raised his head and snorted softly, gesturing for him to sit down.
Roy did as he was told. His upper arm was bound with hemp rope, and the veins bulged. Anesthetic was applied to the incision site on his forearm. A small silver knife cut across it, but he felt no pain, only a slight numbness.
With his arm dangling in the air, the blood slid down due to gravity, dripping precisely into the copper bowl on the table, perfectly preventing a single drop from splashing.
Then the miraculous green hemostatic ointment was applied. As if threatened by the ointment, the wound obediently healed in an instant, and a cool sensation spread across my forearm.
Roy was slightly taken aback; even if his wound was small, the healing speed was too fast.
It's practically a miracle drug!
The doctor then solemnly wrapped bandages around his neck, asked his name, and then sat there silently, like a stone statue.
"Hmm?" The short, abrupt syllable was a signal to send him away.
"You...can you speak?" Roy suspected that after so many years, the corpse's vocal organs might have developed problems.
"Get out of here." A hoarse voice said without any politeness.
Roy was speechless. He had always had great faith in the Eye of True Sight, but now he was starting to have doubts.
There was no way around it; if the doctor in front of me were dead, he would be too lifelike, indistinguishable from a normal person.
This quack doctor, what is his purpose in collecting blood?
He frowned inwardly, but under normal circumstances, he should pretend that he hadn't noticed anything.
Roy was overjoyed and kept saying things like "the bloodletting didn't hurt" and "miracle doctor," before excitedly running out.
He was certain that a wizard was behind this.
Hmm... Since he's Lord Histor's doctor, could the lord be involved as well?
Thinking about it that way, it's highly likely.
But his understanding of wizards was too limited to guess what that bowl of blood could be used for, or whether the wizard behind the doctor was good or bad. Naturally, it was also difficult for him to devise a countermeasure.
If the doctor is in some other state, such as being "manipulated" or "possessed by a spirit," then there might still be clues to be found.
After all the boys had finished bleeding, they were led to the cafeteria for a meal.
Roy and Carla sat down at the table and ordered a standard set meal.
This standard set meal alone is more lavish than the second set meal at Solam Tavern.
But he was already used to the No. 3 set meal, and he was not used to such a sumptuous meal.
Fortunately, it's nothing serious, and I'm sure I'll get used to it soon.
As soon as the two put down their cutlery, two teenagers moved over, their eyes filled with a cautious probing.
"Which town are you from?"
Lanxi Town.
"That's great!" The other person visibly relaxed. "We're from Wintervale Town."
Roy's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly for a moment before he regained his composure.
There is also an invisible hierarchy of contempt between the towns. Because of their remote location, Donggu Town and Lanxi Town are subtly looked down upon by these teenagers.
For example, Dragon Tooth Town, which has a stable, is considered one of the best among all the towns. The two boys who were summoned carried with them money raised by their families and the townspeople. No one knows how much it was, but it was definitely far more than Roy's fifty taels of silver.
Some of the boys even came from aristocratic families.
The two men approached Roy and Karazhan clearly to form a small group for their own protection.
The benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and Roy is happy to see it happen.
"My name is Roy, and this is Karazhan."
The two looked over with some surprise, initially assuming that the more robust Karazhan was in charge.
"Marley." One of the boys reached out his hand.
Roy grasped his hand, and a tremendous force came through it. Marley smiled, seemingly testing the waters in a friendly manner.
He slightly increased his strength until it was 0.1 points higher than his opponent's strength attribute, and Marley finally relaxed his momentum.
"Impressive," he said admiringly.
Roy didn't take it seriously. Although Marley was also a bloodline user, his bloodline was that of the Night Hawk, and his skill was night vision. His strength and physique were not much higher than those of ordinary people.
"This is Pierre."
Pierre was a square-faced boy, engrossed in eating. His slightly reddened ears hinted at a hint of social anxiety.
"He doesn't talk much, but he has a very kind heart."
Roy nodded. This Pierre was a rare non-bloodline individual.
"Roy, your eyes and hair are black. Is it because of your bloodline?" Marley asked the same question that Delock had asked before.
Indeed, everyone else's hair was more or less brown or blonde, but Roy's was pure black, which was quite unusual.
He suspected that it was caused by the bloodline that had been extracted from him.
"Maybe so," he replied after a moment's hesitation.
Marley didn't delve into the details, instead excitedly recounting what he'd heard: "I heard they're going to teach breathing techniques tomorrow. After mastering the basics, you'll be able to draw upon life energy, reaching a level of power we never even dared to dream of before!"
"I've also heard that we're going to practice the Lion Breathing Technique, a family heirloom of the Lotter family. If you have the bloodline of the Lotter Lion, your training will be twice as effective!"
"And that green hemostatic medicine from the doctor is really amazing," Marley muttered, recounting all the surprising things he had seen and heard.
After dinner, the boys took a short walk to aid digestion.
Because they had to get up early the next day, they lay down on the bed and quickly fell asleep.
