Full-Time Wizard: Starting with Harvesting Wheat
Chapter 5 Torrential Rain
For Roy, he couldn't even wait a year, let alone three.
"That... Roland. With such talent, does he really need three years?"
"Roy," Olga's expression turned serious, "Three years is not a long time. For a knight to advance to a certain level of physical fitness, they need to train day after day to mature."
He leaned closer to Roy, his eyes wide, a hint of intimidation in his gaze: "When condensing the seed of life, if your physique isn't strong enough, the pain... it's said to be excruciating enough to kill you!"
"This matter is also recorded in 'Holy Knight Roland.' One of Roland's nemesis, Kegel, was so eager to improve that he forcibly condensed a life seed when his physique was insufficient. In the end, when Roland arrived, he could only painfully bury his body."
Olga feigned grief; the story deeply resonated with him.
Roy simply smiled and remained silent. One shouldn't believe everything in a novel, but neither should one completely disregard it. As for the requirement for a certain physical condition to advance as a knight, Roy could understand that.
"Physical constitution? I only spent a little over three hours to increase it by 0.1, which shouldn't be considered slow..."
He believed that with the Eye of True Vision, he would certainly not be slower than Roland. But whether he could meet the requirements in ten months was still uncertain.
Just as Olga was about to continue telling Roy the story of Roland, the sky suddenly changed.
Roy was the first to notice the change.
A thick, fish-scale cloud silently swept in from afar, instantly swallowing up the sunlight that was falling on him.
He looked up abruptly and saw huge, dark clouds, like an army clad in black armor, covering the sky at an alarming speed, bringing with them a heavy sense of oppression.
The cool autumn breeze suddenly turned into a biting cold wind.
The cold wind carried a heavy mist.
"Hiss—" Roy gasped and stood up abruptly. On the horizon, a swallow swooped down in a panic, almost skimming the ground, and plunged headfirst into the shadow of a distant building.
If you can see ants, they must be carrying out a large-scale migration.
Everything indicated that the weather was about to change.
"Heavy rain! It's coming!" Olgaten jumped up. He had seen this many times before, but this time the rain came too fast, without any warning, and it looked like it would be quite heavy.
"Oh no, the wheat is still lying in the field!"
The harvested and piled wheat ears will be soaked by rainwater and sprout, become moldy, or be washed away!
Unharvested wheat in the fields will also be knocked down and flooded by the torrential rain, resulting in heavy losses!
"It's time to harvest," Olga murmured, and sure enough, the man's roar was like thunder.
"Olga, Roy! Come quick!"
The two ran over quickly, their expressions serious.
"Bring back the harvested wheat first, then take the sickle to harvest the wheat that hasn't fallen over yet! Remember, come back before the heavy rain!" After saying this, the man of the house, wearing a raincoat, ran out first, and large raindrops began to fall from the sky.
At the same time, other farmers, large and small, also rushed out, carrying various tools and running wildly into the wheat fields.
Looking at this scene, Roy sighed inwardly.
In his previous world, even if all the wheat was destroyed, no one would risk their lives to harvest it in a downpour. A year's harvest might mean hardship in the coming year, but it would never mean starvation.
But this medieval-like era is different.
If there is less wheat, the farming family will go hungry next year, and there will be a greater chance of starving to death!
Even so, the man of the house still told them to come back when the rain got heavier, because he was afraid that the two children would get sick in the downpour.
Once you have a fever, it's like death is grabbing your arm and dragging you into the underworld.
"Roy, let's team up!" Olga could hardly contain his excitement. In his eyes, this was his first adventure with his knight companion—or perhaps it wasn't even an adventure at all.
Roy ignored him and ran straight out to the field he had harvested that morning, quickly picking up the ears of wheat and gathering them under his arm.
After repeating this several times, his arms were stuffed full. Roy rushed to a thatched hut by the wheat field. The hole he dug in the mud was wide open. He threw the wheat in and returned to the battlefield.
He no longer expected to improve his physique by harvesting wheat. After the heavy rain, less than half of the wheat remained unharvested, and it wasn't his turn to harvest it.
Now, he just wants to collect more grain so that his employer won't lose money and have to buy grain from other places next year!
With the help of two adults, a man and a woman, and two children, the wheat ears on the ground quickly filled half of the hole in the ground. The originally golden wheat awns seemed to be tinged with color by the dim world, making them look somewhat gloomy.
"Go back!" the master of the house called out. With that, Roy and Olga's task was complete. Even if they went back to the house to rest, the employer wouldn't blame them.
However, standing by the thatched hut, they exchanged a glance, and in unison, raised their sickles and rushed into the vast wheat field!
Slash! Slash! Slash!
In the midst of a near-race-like victory, Olga was surprised to find that Roy was actually faster than him and had overtaken him.
He gritted his teeth, ignoring his linen clothes that were completely soaked by the rain, and quickened his pace, but became even more reckless.
Although this will result in the loss of some wheat grains, it is clear that we cannot afford to worry about that now!
……
The downpour arrived an hour after the first drop, as if deliberately giving the farmers time to react and salvage a large amount of their crops.
Seeing that Olga was still fighting, and that her every move was already showing signs of bloodlust and killing, Roy quickly slapped her across the face and then dragged her back to the employer's house.
The moment they took shelter under the eaves, a torrential downpour poured down behind them like a waterfall.
"Roy, what are you doing!" Olga roared. "I can still fight, why did you drag me back?"
With his strength, he would have pushed Roy to the ground long ago if he wasn't afraid of hurting him.
"While bravery is one of the eight virtues of chivalry, it doesn't mean recklessly charging forward. It means assessing the situation carefully," Roy replied seriously. "We only have a thin layer of clothing; once the rain gets on our skin, we'll quickly fall ill. Which do you think is more valuable: the money for medical treatment or the money you steal?"
Upon reflection, Olga broke out in a cold sweat. In that critical moment, he had never considered such a situation. Doctors were extremely scarce in this era; not to mention the cost of a serious illness, even finding one was another matter entirely.
"But what about Father and the others..."
"They all have raincoats, and they're all adults. They'll come back as soon as they realize something's wrong, so there's nothing to worry about. Besides..."
Roy had just glanced at the male master's attributes; his constitution was 1.2, four times that of Roy himself, and his strength was even more astonishing.
There are factors related to his being an adult, and there's also the fact that farmers are generally physically strong; in short, he shouldn't be so easily defeated by the heavy rain.
Sure enough, the man of the house returned soon after, his raincoat lying against the wall, dripping water.
"You're all wet, hurry up and change your clothes and take a hot bath," the man said, first pouring cold water into the large iron pot, then lighting the stove with firewood.
However, while boiling water, the male homeowner kept glancing out the door, looking worried.
Roy was right; given the male owner's constitution, he would be fine.
But the lady of the house might not be so sure.
The rain outside the window was so heavy that it looked as if the tree in the yard was about to be overturned.
If they don't return with this level of rain, the situation is likely dire.
The water was ready, but Olga stubbornly refused to get into the tub to bathe, her eyes fixed on the rain, anxiously waiting for her mother.
The male homeowner glared at him, and Roy shoved him, so he reluctantly sank into the water.
Soon, steam filled the room. Two thin, dark-skinned boys were soaking in the steaming water, like black bread being immersed in bean soup.
