Full-Time Wizard: Starting with Harvesting Wheat
Chapter 39 Vampires?
"Hmm... If my hardened skin covers my entire body, it can only last for five seconds. But if I concentrate, it can last for a long time if it covers just a small area."
Chopper's calm tone conveyed a convincing sense of power.
He has no reason to lie.
"You've all witnessed my roar," Delock urged. "Roy, it's your turn."
Roy took a deep breath and nodded. Besides observing, he also had to fabricate an ability on the spot to buy time—an ability that he could demonstrate, or that appeared to have already demonstrated.
"You've all noticed, I've grown nearly ten centimeters taller in a week, which is impossible for most people," he said, his tone unusually calm.
"Actually, not only my height, but my strength has also increased significantly."
Upon hearing this, all three turned their gazes to Roy, staring at him like sharp eagles.
"My ability... allows me to sense plants that are beneficial to me. By consuming them, I can gain physical strength and, incidentally, increase my growth rate."
"It's a growth-type ability!?" The usually calm and collected Delock couldn't suppress the excitement in his voice.
While this ability may not perform as well in combat as brute force and thick skin, its long-term development has undoubtedly brought far greater benefits than the former two.
It can even play a significant role in the path of chivalry.
"What amazing ability..." Chopper's face gradually showed surprise, and then he exclaimed in admiration.
Karazhan rubbed his cheek with his fingers, not feeling that it was anything special.
"Wait a minute," Delock's eyes sharpened, "You mean, those normally useless weeds can be used to boost your attributes?"
Seeing his somewhat moved expression, Roy added, "I had Gerald collect some plants for me before, such as blue bamboo shoots, crescent mushrooms, and cabbage leaves. You can ask him about them."
These three plants have no effect on ordinary people, and some may even cause poisoning. Roy's decision to have Gerald collect these plants is basically confirmation of his abilities!
The doubts of the three people present were immediately largely dispelled.
“I propose,” Delock said decisively, his leadership qualities evident, “that from today onwards, we will be divided into pairs and live together. My family has guards hired by my father, so it’s relatively safe.”
This is an open conspiracy.
If Roy didn't possess the Eye of True Sight, he might be desperately clinging to Delock right now, but for now, he remains silent.
As soon as Karazhan raised his hand, a mental imprint was instantly etched into his mind.
"Never accept an invitation from someone."
The raised hand was suddenly lowered.
Chopper glanced at them both strangely, then took a step forward with his massive, mountain-like body.
"I'll team up with you, Delock."
"Then it's decided."
Naturally, Karazhan and Roy became partners.
"Remember," Delock emphasized, "do everything you can to avoid implicating your families..."
"I understand. Then I'll stay at Roy's house. Isn't he an orphan?" Karazhan interjected.
"Also," Delock's gaze swept over them, "in the event of an attack, be sure to notify me immediately."
Watching Drok and Chopper leave, Karazhan sprang to his feet like a spring: "I even gave up a chance to go to Drok's house to learn swordsmanship! Hurry up and teach me the Straight Thrust!"
Roy did not respond immediately, his gaze remaining fixed on Delock's departing figure.
The lion's roar displayed by his opponent gave him an opportunity. He wondered if he could use this chance to kill Delock in one fell swoop and rescue Chopper at the same time.
Another option is to wait until he learns the Spinning Slash before confronting him.
However, the opponent also becomes stronger, and even absorbs Chopper's abilities.
He was weighing the feasibility of the two options.
After a moment's thought, he decided to win over Karazhan first.
……
In the evening, Roy and Karazhan were engrossed in practicing swordsmanship in their own backyard. The latter's straight thrust had become quite impressive, at least significantly different from a regular stabbing.
Although it's still not to the point where True Sight will react.
"Let's go, it's time to eat."
With that, Roy led Karazhan to the Thoram's Tavern.
Because he had a dozen or so silver coins in his pocket, Roy felt perfectly justified in choosing the second set meal—it was said that the first set meal included a whole cow and required advance reservations to get it.
Huge skewers of grilled meat are sprinkled with spices, the particles releasing orange-yellow fumes, and oil sizzling out from between the meat.
Interspersed among the chunks of meat are onions, bell peppers, and fresh, tender mushrooms emitting an irresistible aroma; the flavors seem to solidify in the air above the dining table.
Roy, quick as a flash, snatched three skewers of meat, stuffed them into his mouth, and swallowed them whole without even biting them, as if he were eating animal feed instead of gourmet food!
Soram stared wide-eyed, incredulous that his carefully prepared dish had been devoured like pig feed. But seeing the fierce face of that man, along with another equally formidable figure, he dared not retaliate.
Seeing Roy's impolite manner, Karazhan glared angrily, thinking, "If you're so ruthless, don't blame me for being ruthless too." He opened his abyssal maw and, like Pigsy eating a ginseng fruit, plucked off a string of meat in one bite, his lips glistening with oil.
The two had enormous appetites, and with incomplete digestion, it took them an hour of fierce fighting to finish their dinner. When Soram announced three silver coins, Karazhan almost vomited up what he had just eaten.
Egg!
He saved up so much money for so long, and almost half of it was gone in one go!
"How can you eat so much?" Karazhan wondered. If he didn't learn to use his straight thrust properly in a few days, Roy would eat him into bankruptcy.
"Today was an accident." Roy casually pulled a piece of meat from between his teeth and chewed it slowly.
Food from other people always tastes better.
"Karazhan," Roy said suddenly, gazing at the starry sky, "If I asked you to deal with Drokol, what would you do?"
Karazhan paused for a moment.
"Hey, I just wanted to learn swordsmanship from you, and you want me to fight Delock?! I get it, you're after the number one spot among the top ten swordsmen, aren't you!"
"I, Karazhan, will become a righteous knight like Roland, and I will never stoop to your level!"
"What if... there's a legitimate reason?" Roy carefully chose his words. "For example... is Drok actually an evil wizard? He... is obsessed with collecting rare blood, so that's why..."
"Bullshit!" Karazhan roared. "You mean, Drok killed Lucaon for blood?! That's utter nonsense!"
"You're just envious! You're jealous!" Karazhan sternly rebuked Roy's thoughts.
Roy fell silent. He realized that gaining Karazhan's trust would be far more difficult than he had anticipated.
I have to prove something.
For example, the evidence of Delock's murder...
Lost in thought, they gradually moved away from the tavern. The night was as dark as ink, and the town fell silent, with only the occasional cold evening wind sweeping by, emitting a low, mournful howl.
The sound was sometimes loud, sometimes soft, and sometimes near, sometimes far.
Roy's voice sounded a bit like a wolf howling.
Amid the wolf's howl, there seemed to be some background noise mixed in.
Upon closer listening, it began to sound more and more like a human voice.
It's getting closer, the hurried footsteps are getting closer.
Roy grabbed the elderly woman who looked panicked and was about to run away.
"Auntie, what happened?"
"According to...it is said..." the old woman gasped for breath.
"The one who went missing before... Lucaón! His body... has been found! His entire body..." she gestured, trembling, "as thin as... as a sheet of paper!"
"Not a single drop of blood... not a single drop of blood was left!"
"Vampires! It must have been those damned vampires!"
Vampires?
This word, both familiar and unfamiliar, instantly pierced Roy's mind.
