Full-Time Wizard: Starting with Harvesting Wheat
Chapter 3 Techniques
Roy crouched down in front of the stone, running his fingertips along its polished surface.
"Try bending your knees to this angle," he said to Olga, demonstrating himself with a smaller gap between his thigh and calf than Olga had tried before.
"That's about right, lower the center of gravity a bit more."
Olga stared at him suspiciously. The maturity and composure that the boy suddenly exuded reminded him of his father.
But this feeling was fleeting, quickly replaced by the stubbornness of a young man.
He doesn't want to be bossed around by someone who looks younger than him!
"No." He crossed his arms and turned his face away. "Why should I listen to you!"
Roy wasn't surprised; Olga had just experienced a defeat and was currently in a sullen state.
He casually flattered:
"Olga, you know the virtues of a knight, don't you?"
"Of course!" The child reacted immediately upon hearing the word "knight," counting on his fingers, "The eight virtues of chivalry are—compassion, honor, courage, faith, honesty, justice, humility, and temperance. How about that?"
"That's right." Actually, Roy didn't know anything about the Eight Virtues of a Knight; he just picked out two keywords from them very precisely.
He patted Olga on the shoulder: "You know, a knight should be both brave and humble. Speaking of bravery, how can you give up just because you can't lift the stone right away? Speaking of humility, how can you refuse to listen to me just because I am of lowly status?"
Olga blushed. "I...I didn't think you were of low status!"
"I believe in you," Roy replied immediately, his tone incredibly sincere, "just as I believe you can become a great knight."
"A great... knight?" Olga was stunned. Roy's unconditional trust was completely different from that of his parents, who both demanded that Olga be a farmer for generations and not pursue any illusory knight.
A feeling of joy at suddenly finding a kindred spirit immediately welled up in his heart.
"You said I could become... a great knight, is that true?"
"Of course."
"If I try it once, I'll try it again." Embracing the virtues of "courage" and "humility," Olga accepted Roy's advice.
Roy chuckled. It was incredibly easy for him to manipulate a 13-year-old, especially since the kid dreamed of being a knight and had the mindset of someone from a fairy tale.
Olga bent slightly, her thighs and calves bending at an angle similar to Roy's earlier demonstration, gradually lowering her center of gravity.
In Roy's eyes, this one change immediately raised his accuracy to 58%.
Then, Olga exerted her strength without much hope, and the stone, like an animal just waking up, emitted a dull rumbling sound, creating a gap between itself and the ground.
Although this achievement is not outstanding, it is similar to Olga's first attempt at moving the stone, which was when she was at her strongest.
Although she couldn't lift it, Olga's face lit up with surprise: "Wow, that was amazing! It was so much easier than before!"
Before Roy could even suggest another round, he was already staring at Roy expectantly, waiting for his advice.
In those chivalric romances, a knight's strength primarily stems from his physical power, but skill also plays a significant role. Olga knew that Roy was teaching him skill, even the most basic kind!
Suddenly, he felt a greater respect for Roy.
With both skill and strength, Olga will likely be unstoppable on his path as a knight.
He thought to himself with delight.
Roy then had him fine-tune his waist movements until the accuracy of his movements reached 70%.
Olga exerted her strength again, and the stone was finally shaken, slightly lifting off the ground!
This is already his record.
But Roy's experiment was far from over.
The point of contact on the stone, the subtle adjustments of the wrist, and the angle between the feet—these seemingly minor details can all improve the accuracy of the movement.
In the end, a full half hour passed.
Even after trying it dozens of times and her arms were sore, Olga was still full of energy.
With each adjustment, he improved, and now he can even lift the stone up to his upper thigh.
This is all thanks to Roy.
"Put it down." At this point, the accuracy of her movements had reached 80%, which was Olga's current limit.
Because of her strength and skeletal structure, Olga simply couldn't make other adjustments.
However, after the meal, Olga, who has regained her strength, can try a few more times to see the effect.
After half an hour of observation and guidance, Roy gained a clearer understanding of the effects of "standard of movement" on different tasks.
When he harvested wheat, his technique was roughly 50% to 80% accurate, but his efficiency nearly doubled. Moving stones, however, was a different story, yielding at most only about 1.5 times the efficiency. This is normal, as the skill requirements for each task are different.
So, will there be something in the future that will allow the skill to be used to its fullest potential?
Just as Roy called for a stop, Olga excitedly straightened up and swung her fist.
He couldn't wait to tell his friends in town about his deeds, and in just one day, he had made great progress!
But when he thought of Roy's words of "humility" to him, he silently lowered his head again.
"Roy is right. My understanding of the eight virtues of chivalry is still insufficient. How can I go around showing off to everyone as soon as I make a little progress?"
"I should subtly reveal my significant progress to attract attention from others."
"Sometimes, hiding your true self can be a greater advantage at crucial moments..."
What Roy didn't know was that, out of his sight, Olga had already secretly grasped the basics of playing dumb to outsmart others.
He continued to encourage her, "Olga, you haven't had lunch yet, so you might not be performing at your best. Half an hour after you eat, your results will definitely be even better!"
Olga wholeheartedly agreed with Roy's words.
He wolfed down the black bread, which he hadn't particularly liked before, as if he wanted to finish it within five minutes.
But the more he ate, the more ferocious his expression became.
Even after soaking, dark bread is still not an easy food to defeat, unless you have the sharp teeth of a large beast.
Clearly, the little knight does not meet this requirement.
……
During her post-meal exercise time, Olga followed Roy's advice and meticulously adjusted various parts of her body. Perhaps because her strength had increased compared to before the meal, she finally managed to lift the stone to her abdomen.
This was a huge success, but he showed no sign of pride or complacency, as if it were all a matter of course.
At that moment, he learned not only skills but also humility, and made a good friend.
This friend possessed skills that he admired.
He rolled his eyes and excitedly suggested, "Roy, let's become knights together from now on!"
"I've thought it through. With your skills and my strength, we'll definitely be invincible!"
Roy had just finished his bean soup, but he didn't rush to refuse.
"A knight? What's the benefit?"
"Benefits?" Olga stroked her chin thoughtfully, seemingly having never considered this question.
A moment later, he suddenly looked up, his eyes shining.
"I get it! The benefit is that I'll gain the respect of others!"
"Hmm, very good," Roy replied perfunctorily, clearly showing he had no interest in any kind of reverence.
"Furthermore," Olga continued, "once you condense the Seed of Life and become a full-fledged knight, even if you enter the transcendent realm, your lifespan will increase significantly!"
"I see," Roy nodded after hearing Olga's words. Since this world has wizards, the appearance of a knight capable of reaching the extraordinary realm isn't surprising.
"Lifespan?" Roy admitted that he was slightly tempted.
With such a cheat code, it's only natural that one could ascend to the extraordinary realm and have an infinite lifespan.
However, he did not directly reply to Olga's words.
There's something even more important that he needs to verify.
Roy patted his butt and stood up.
"Olga, do you have a mirror in your house?"
"A mirror? What's that?" Olga asked, looking bewildered.
"No? Where's the water tank?"
"Oh, you want to wash your hands, right?" Olga suddenly realized and led Roy to the yard. In the corner of the yard was a building of moderate size, emitting the strongest smell of cooking fires.
"That's the kitchen over there; you can see the water tank as soon as you go in."
Roy understood. After entering the kitchen, he quickly found a pear-shaped water tank that was nearly a meter tall in the corner. He didn't know what material it was made of. The tank was a rough, earthy yellow color, but the water inside was very clear.
What he wanted to do was to reflect his own data.
Even though he kept observing his hands, feet, and even torso, the data for this body still did not appear. Based on the timing of the data display for other people, he guessed that the conditions for the data to appear were either observing the whole body or seeing the face.
If it's a face, then a water tank is sufficient.
Roy leaned forward in front of the water tank, his face reflected on the calm surface.
His hair was jet black and tousled, his skin was bronze, and his cheeks were slightly yellow due to malnutrition.
This is a typical rural boy.
The next moment, as if the water itself had come to life, lines of pitch-black text quietly appeared.
"Holy crap!?" He couldn't help but swear the moment he saw the data.
