Full-Time Wizard: Starting with Harvesting Wheat
Chapter 19, Part 1
A moment later, old John bent down and picked up an iron sword, its blade gleaming with a chilling light.
"The ore processing... is good."
"Forging... hmm, looks like a veteran."
"Quenching, polishing..."
After observing for only a moment, old John could roughly guess whose work it was.
This iron sword was skillfully forged; apart from minor details, every step was carried out precisely according to the established procedures to ensure accuracy.
The design of this sword was based on a standard iron sword available on the market. Although the design was mediocre, the forger's skill was anything but, successfully elevating the iron sword to a higher level.
Only a few of his apprentices possessed such exquisite skills that they could even open their own blacksmith shops and take on orders.
Old John flicked his finger, and the blade emitted a fierce hum, as if it were brimming with fighting spirit.
He nodded slightly, raised his sword, and with only half his strength, the iron sword instantly pierced three centimeters into the test stake.
"While it's not as good as the iron sword I submitted to the lord, it's more than enough for an ordinary mercenary." Old John finally smiled. "This sword is not bad! 85 points!"
"Which group produced this?"
As two burly men stepped forward, the crowd erupted in uproar.
"85 points!? This...this must be the highest score I've ever seen in an assessment, right?"
"How did Hohenheim and Chicas end up together? They're both apprentices with six or seven years of experience, good enough to be masters on their own!"
"It seems the first place has already been decided..."
The two men, both in their thirties, exchanged a smile. They had already decided that after this ordeal, they would leave the blacksmith's shop and use their superb skills to make a living.
Therefore, they chose to join forces in the final assessment to achieve a perfect victory and bring their years-long apprenticeship to a close.
"It really is you two, Hohenheim and Chicas..." Old John's eyes flashed with understanding. He had just felt that the Iron Sword bore the mark of these two in every aspect. They were John's students who had been with him the longest, and he knew their methods all too well.
Only these two could produce works of this quality.
"what?"
With a surprised exclamation, old John suddenly stopped in front of a forging table and stood there looking at it.
"The details of this iron sword... are quite well done. In some aspects, the design is even more exquisite than my drawings."
He reached out and picked up the sword, examining it from all angles, growing increasingly alarmed with each look.
The curve of the sword spine, the angle of the blade, and even the subtle curve of the guard all reveal ingenuity.
He's getting old, and his design skills have long lost their former flair. He only dares to follow the rules and stick to old experience. But the novelty in this design actually taught him a lesson.
Seeing Old John's changes in action and expression, Holheim and Chicas's expressions changed slightly. They were, in a way, half-experts themselves, and could sense the menacing gleam of the iron sword even from afar.
Based solely on a premonition, they were certain that their forged product was inferior to that sword.
"Which team built this?"
When he asked this question, old John already had the answer in his heart.
There weren't many groups left, and he could only keep an eye on two apprentices.
Gerrard and Roy.
As expected, two figures stepped forward the moment they heard the question.
"Master, this is a work by Gerald and me."
Roy bowed respectfully and said this, while Gerald simply stood aside and did the same.
This two-person group was actually being led by Roy in a subtle way!
This amazed the apprentices around them.
Was Gerrard cowardly, allowing this novice apprentice to trample on his head, or was Roy truly exceptional?
"Nonsense!" Old John shouted angrily, his face showing anger, but the corners of his mouth were moving up and down, as if he couldn't hold back his anger.
"How can someone from the newbie group be joined by the apprentice group? Aren't you just holding the apprentices back?"
Gerald took a step forward hastily, but was interrupted by Roy before he could speak.
"Master, it's my fault. I was really tempted by the reward of ten silver coins, so I asked Gerald for help." Roy lowered his head with a guilty look. "Gerald is a very kind man. As soon as he heard that I was in financial trouble, he immediately agreed to my request and let me join his group so that I could get a share of the reward."
"Actually, I only did some simple tasks, like helping to keep an eye on the fire in the furnace. Gerald did all the forging work!"
"Is this design drawing also one?"
"I have no design skills, of course it's all Gerald's doing!" Roy wasn't lying when he said that. He only offered suggestions for improvement, but he didn't participate in any of the changes to the drawings.
Gerald froze on the spot, watching incredulously as Roy completely absolved himself of any credit. He opened his mouth, but ultimately did not expose him in front of everyone.
"Gerrard has only been training for two and a half years, hasn't he? He's been keeping it a secret for a long time!"
"Yes, judging from the master's expression, that finished piece is probably even better than what the Hohenheim group made!"
"No wonder he's John's descendant, he's got real talent!"
The other apprentices only knew that Roy had only been learning for a little over a week and couldn't possibly have such exquisite skills, so they praised Gerald to the skies.
"Just how good is this sword?"
"It's said that only swords forged by the master himself will receive a rating of 90 or higher. What do you think of this sword...?"
Ignoring the murmurs of the crowd, old John straightened his longsword with satisfaction, using only half his strength. As the sword flashed, the blade was deeply embedded in the test stake!
The depth is estimated to be at least five centimeters!
Old John's eyes gleamed; the sword he had personally forged for the lord was of this caliber.
The sword's toughness and sharpness prove that it is a masterpiece!
Ultimately, the Hornheim team unfortunately finished second, while another team won three silver medals with a score of over seventy points.
Gerrard's team, Iron Sword, scored 92 points, earning ten silver medals!
"We lost."
"That sword is indeed powerful."
As blacksmith apprentices, Hohenheim and Chicas naturally wouldn't be concerned with gains and losses; all they wanted to do at that moment was to explore the craftsmanship of the sword!
If these blacksmiths, who were so dedicated to perfecting their craft, hadn't been able to unravel the secrets of that sword before leaving, they probably would have been restless and unable to eat or sleep.
"Master..." Hohenheim was about to ask for guidance when Old John interrupted him. "You four, come with me."
Hohenheim and Chicas were overjoyed, and Gerald followed dejectedly. What the others found unacceptable was that Roy, a newcomer who had only been in the business for a little over a week, was also called away by Old John and taken into that private forging room.
