He couldn't completely dodge in mid-air; he could only barely turn to the side.

The tail spike grazed his left shoulder armor, piercing it, the sharp tail tip bone spur digging deep into the muscle.

He groaned, but his downward momentum did not diminish, and the wrist blade still struck the target.

The wrist blade cut into the tendon of Toruk's hind leg. Although it only cut in about a third of the way before being trapped by the strong fascia, it was enough to make Toruk's left hind leg buckle and his whole body tilt to the side.
