A god-level prop master in the Marvel universe
【011】Obadiah’s ambition.
Since his father's death, Obadiah has been one of Tony's few remaining "family members" in the world.
Perhaps seeing that his attitude had softened today, Tony's tone also became gentler: "I have controlling interest in the company, so I don't need to pay attention to those people on the board. As for the media, I care even less. You know what they're like; they'll only write the news they want to write."
Obadiah sighed and earnestly advised, "Tony, the board has power too. Now that they want to stop you from working, you have to do something to persuade them."
After saying that, he looked at the Arc Reactor on Tony's chest.
Seemingly sensing his thoughts, Tony quickly said, "I don't need to take any action, because I'll take responsibility if anything goes wrong."
Obadiah, undeterred, pleaded again, "Tony, give me this thing. I'll get the tech department to work on its production. Only then can I turn things around for you with the board."
"No, this is mine, I won't give it to anyone!"
"Tony..."
"You should go back now."
Obadiah seemed to want to say something more, but Tony directly told him to leave.
Knowing Tony's personality, Obadiah didn't intend to continue persuading him. With a helpless sigh, he prepared to leave.
Just then, Tony suddenly called out to him as if he had remembered something: "Wait..."
This made Obadiah stop in his tracks instantly.
Obadiah smiled kindly, thinking that Tony might have changed his mind.
Unexpectedly, Tony ignored him after calling out to him and instead pulled Luo Bai aside to discuss something in secret.
Obadiah really wanted to hear what they were saying, but with Potts there, he couldn't go too close, so he had to give up.
Fortunately, Obadiah didn't have to wait long; the two finished talking after about a minute.
Seeing that the two had finished talking, Obadiah quickly stepped forward and said, "Tony, if you were willing to take out the Arc Reactor for research, I think everyone's opinion of you would be reversed a lot."
After saying that, Obadiah glanced at Lobe and continued, "Tony, is this the friend who escaped from the Middle East with you?"
Tony nodded.
Obadiah then gave Luo Bai a perfunctory greeting: "Hello."
Luo Bai didn't answer, but just smiled politely, and then he took out an open gas can and sprayed it at Obadiah.
This startled Obadiah, who exclaimed excitedly, "What did you spray?!"
Luo Bai calmly replied, "Air freshener, your tar smell isn't very pleasant."
Obadiah frowned, seemingly annoyed by Lobe's behavior.
But considering he was Tony's friend, Obadiah didn't say anything too offensive, only complaining, "Your air freshener doesn't smell good either."
Just then, Tony suddenly spoke up: "Obadiah, you told me to keep a low profile, so I've always let you manage the company. But the situation is different now. I told you, the terrorists who kidnapped me used weapons made by Stark Industries. If we continue to manufacture weapons, more people will die. Actually, I thought you would support me."
Obadiah originally wanted to say something like that everything he did was for the benefit of the company.
However, he didn't know what had gotten into him, but he blurted out his true thoughts very loudly: "Listen, Tony, I make more money in a year selling weapons to these freedom fighters than I would in fifty years at this company. What makes you think I'd support you? I only regret that Stark Industries isn't mine, otherwise I could make even more!"
Obadiah was stunned by these words, and even Tony was stunned.
It was Tony's idea to use open gas on Obadiah, and the reason he pulled Lobe aside to discuss it earlier was because of this.
Firstly, Tony thought that opening up the gas system was too amazing, so he really wanted to try it.
Secondly, his trust in Obadiah was gradually wavering.
It's no exaggeration to say that Obadiah watched Tony grow up and was Tony's elder.
Tony always believed that Obadiah was not a businessman who would sacrifice his conscience for money, after all, he had always said that Stark Industries manufactured weapons to maintain world peace.
But recently, Obadiah's behavior has been very abnormal.
He tried his best to stop himself from closing the weapons department, and just now he even wanted to use the arc reactor to study core technologies.
Tony felt a vague unease, which is why he wanted to hear Obadiah's true thoughts.
Even if Obadiah had said that he was selling Stark Industries weapons privately or taking kickbacks from them, Tony wouldn't have been so shocked.
Out of gratitude for Obadiah's continued help in managing the company, Tony offered a few words of advice and let the matter drop.
To Tony's utter surprise, Obadiah sold weapons to terrorists.
Tony was still somewhat incredulous and asked again, "Is what you just said true? You sold those terrorists the weapons?"
Obadiah didn't want to answer, but he couldn't control himself: "Of course, otherwise why would those people get our company's new weapons? Tony, why do you think Stark Industries makes so much money? It's just a business practice."
At that moment, Tony felt as if a thunderbolt had suddenly struck from the ground.
This "thunder" exploded in his heart instantly.
"Do you know what they're doing with our weapons?! Why did you do this?!" Tony demanded angrily.
Obadiah simply replied nonchalantly, "I only care about making my money. What they do is none of my business. Do you know who doesn't want you to work? I'm the one who applied to the board for a restraining order!"
His attitude infuriated Tony to the extreme: "Get out! From today onwards, you have no further say in anything at Stark Industries! Potts, take him away!"
Seeing Tony's anger, Potts quickly saw him out.
Obadiah knew he couldn't stay any longer, so he left.
After he left, Tony stood there stunned for a long time, unable to recover from the shock.
He seemed to have no idea that what his company had been doing all along was not protecting world peace, but rather destroying it.
Tony felt helpless for a moment.
After what seemed like an eternity, he finally turned to Luo Bai, looking dejected, and said, "Actually, I just wanted to have a proper talk with him... After all, he... I didn't expect him to do this..."
Realizing he had inexplicably become an "accomplice to crime," Tony was flustered and somewhat at a loss.
He didn't know where to put his hands while he was speaking.
In fact, Luo Bai knew all the things they had just talked about, and even knew the things Obadiah hadn't mentioned.
However, he couldn't give away any spoilers, since the settings had been revised according to the Marvel universe's timeline.
Even if the plot is spoiled in advance, things will still happen; nothing will change.
So after thinking about it, Luo Bai simply reminded Tony, "Obadiah's ambitions are too great; you need to be more careful around him."
Tony nodded and said, "I know... I know... Your gadgets are very useful, but sometimes knowing too much of the truth isn't a good thing."
