Chapter 9 Star Leaf
Inside the library, at some point, it gradually became quiet and silent.
"It seems you enjoy reading. Why don't you stay the night?"
A gentle voice suddenly interrupted Ian.
Ian looked up suddenly; the library was empty, and all the magic lamps on the walls were out.
He was startled and quickly got up.
A blurry figure was standing next to the bookshelf ahead.
"I'm sorry, senior, I'll be leaving right away." Ian turned and ran towards the door.
He could clearly feel the gaze behind him like a slippery, venomous snake, clinging tightly to his back.
"How could it be so silent? There was no one around at all, and I didn't notice anything."
Just as he was about to run out the door, the door quietly closed.
"Senior, I'm easily scared, please don't joke around!"
When Ian realized he couldn't pry open the door, his heart jumped.
"Little one, I have a good job for you, would you like to hear about it?"
Her voice became even gentler as she whispered in his ear.
Ian was momentarily dazed, his mouth agape as he was about to agree.
Suddenly, a cool sensation came from the panel.
Ian snapped back to reality.
"I just remembered I have an urgent matter at home. Please let me go."
"Are you sure?" The voice suddenly turned icy.
At this moment, Ian dared not hesitate for a moment.
"This junior is certain I must leave. Please allow me to proceed, senior!"
"Alas...you have no idea how much of an opportunity you're about to miss."
The voice became hoarse again, and at the same time the door slowly opened.
Ian hurriedly slipped out the door, not daring to look back, and fled the place in a sorry state.
It was already dark outside, but the streets were brightly lit.
He ran back to the crowded mission area, wiped away his cold sweat, and let out a long sigh of relief.
"Holy crap, what kind of luck is this? It's unbelievable!!"
He just realized that if the panel hadn't saved him, he definitely wouldn't have been able to withstand the other party's witchcraft.
He was somewhat surprised that the other party let him go when their attempts to lure him failed. He figured that even if he had agreed to stay, he wouldn't have been killed immediately, but his fate would certainly not have been good.
"He's at least a proper wizard, yet he dared to do such a despicable thing inside the tower."
At this moment, Ian was filled with resentment, but there was nothing he could do.
They dared not report it, because if the other party dared to do so, there might be an inside agent within the law enforcement team.
Through this experience, he gained a direct understanding of the dangers of the wizarding world.
Every year, countless low- to mid-level apprentices disappear silently in all sorts of bizarre ways.
Shadowmoon Tower belongs to the White Wizards, who lean towards the good side.
"That's it? Kindness my foot!"
From now on, he won't need to read books anymore.
Before becoming a formal wizard, I will never return to the library, and I will try to avoid visiting the tower as much as possible unless absolutely necessary.
Formal wizards have all sorts of eccentricities; who knows what kind of magical wizard you might encounter!
I stayed under the screen in the square until dawn.
Ian rushed back to the "bus" station, paid 50 magic stone fragments, and climbed into the bus.
His encounter at the library disrupted his entire plan, forcing him to return to the remote wilderness once again.
Get off at Nightfall and head to the potion shop you visited earlier.
On the signboard, two beautiful elven characters were engraved: "Star Leaf".
There is a clear green leaf pattern on the side.
"Hello, guest, what would you like?"
A tall woman in red came over to greet them, but the girl in the green dress from last time was nowhere to be seen.
"I need to speak with someone. Is your manager here?"
Before entering the store, he inquired around a bit.
This potion shop has a good reputation, and there are very few negative reports about it.
"If any guests need anything, just tell me. I can handle most things."
Ian was taken aback. He had thought the woman was just an ordinary shop assistant, but it turned out she was a manager.
"I saw a green leaf mark in the Tower quest log, and it seems to be the same one on your sign."
Each magical mark is unique, containing the spiritual imprint of a wizard or a senior apprentice.
The sensing range of advanced apprentices is very short, less than a few miles.
Only the mark of a formal wizard can transmit messages over a hundred miles.
"You're not mistaken, that's the unique mark of the wizard Elivia."
The woman in red glanced at the young Ian before her, her eyes darting around.
"You don't necessarily want to apply for the potion master position, do you?"
Ian nodded. "I'm a novice potion maker. I can only make one kind of potion at the moment."
"What kind of potion?" the woman in red asked.
Being able to only concoct one type of potion does not meet the recruitment requirements, but it also depends on the type.
"A wake-up potion, but I don't have any ready-made ones on me."
The woman in red's eyes lit up. Although the sobering potion was only a low-level potion, it was the best-selling one.
"My name is Malena, and I'm the manager here. May I ask how you should address me, sir?"
"Hello, Manager Malena, my name is Ian."
"Mr. Ian, could you concoct a sobering potion on the spot? If it's suitable, we can start a collaboration."
Ian followed Malena to the backyard, and as soon as they entered, they smelled a strong medicinal fragrance.
The backyard is very spacious, with four or five large, separate rooms, some of which are already occupied.
These rooms are probably intended as living quarters for potion masters.
"I'll have someone prepare four portions of medicinal herbs. Go to the rightmost room; it's empty there."
Upon entering the room, Ian found it well-equipped with various amenities, far superior to his humble doghouse.
After making all the preparations, Ian deliberately held back when he started refining, and only succeeded on the third attempt.
[Clarity Potion Proficiency +1]
[Awakening Potion: Proficient (3/200)]
Once a skill reaches the proficiency stage, there will still be feedback after failure, but proficiency points will not be gained every time.
"Please have the steward assess it." Ian handed over the potion.
Malena, herself a potion master, nodded repeatedly in approval after reading it.
"Mr. Ian, this is our contract. If you agree, you can sign it to finalize it."
Ian took the parchment and carefully read through each line.
After reading the above, I am still quite satisfied.
The potion shop not only provides accommodation, but also has a senior apprentice stationed there, ensuring a high level of security.
Ian's obligation was that for every four parts of raw materials the shop provided, he would have to pay for one finished potion.
If the yield rate is not up to standard, the only option is to pay out of pocket to cover the difference.
Any extra finished products will be bought back by the shop for four magic stones.
This was very different from the sales commission described in the mission, but it pleased Ian even more.
If Ian were to unleash his full potential in crafting, he could produce thirty to forty finished products a day, excluding training time.
Unfortunately, he didn't dare to do it and planned to start by showing a finished product rate of only about 40%.
This arrangement will not overly reduce the time he has to practice witchcraft and meditation.
It's reasonable to submit an extra four or five potions a day, which would bring in 16 to 20 magic stones.
He can obtain the potions he cultivates here for free.
Other potion recipes that Ian values most, such as the "Awakening Potion" and the "Concentration Potion," can only be redeemed after a certain amount has been refined.
Common physique-enhancing potions are much easier to obtain.
He estimated that he only needed to stay for about a month to exchange for a constitution-related magic potion recipe.
Unfortunately, judging from the description of the effects of the medicine, it is basically a temporary enhancement, not a permanent improvement in physical condition.
"I have no objections to the compensation; I'm very satisfied." Ian signed his name on it.
"Welcome to the team. We'll be colleagues from now on. Just call me Malena."
Malena looked delighted. Actually, the shop wasn't hiring potion masters; it was other branches that were recruiting.
We hired an extra potion master today; he's quite young, which is a pleasant surprise.
