Chapter 484 The Abyss Project
Chapter 484 The Abyss Project
The room was quiet for a few seconds.
Orion took out a yellowed scroll and spread it out on the table.
"This is a record of the Alliance's infiltration operations into the Abyss over countless years."
His tone seemed calm, but it carried a heavy undertone as he pointed his finger at the top of the reel.
"Shortly after the ancient war ended, the Alliance was in high spirits. A level 5 Moon Wizard volunteered to lead twelve elite squads and, using precise spatial positioning, directly infiltrated the first layer of the abyss."
He paused for a moment and let out a soft breath.
"But in no time, the team was exposed; the will of the abyss discovered them."
Ian's eyes flickered slightly. The Moonlit Wizard had been detected by the Abyss's primal will, and his fate was self-evident.
"Under the White Emperor's cover, only that Radiant Moon Wizard returned," Orion's voice deepened.
Even with the protection of the Witch King, this person's soul has already collapsed, and he doesn't even know his own name.
From his ramblings, the Alliance pieced together a useful piece of information: the will of the abyss had already sensed their presence the moment they entered.
Serafina sighed, "Why send only a level 5 wizard in? What's the difference between that and sending them to their deaths?"
"Nobody thought it was suicide at the time," Orion shook his head.
"The ancient war has just ended, and everyone in the Alliance feels that the Abyss has been severely damaged, presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Moonlit Wizard thinks so too."
He moved his finger down a bit and touched a section of runes in the middle of the scroll.
"Then the alliance changed its approach and stopped sending real people in. Instead, it used the 'Void Stealth' technique to project the consciousness of a group of wizards below level four directly into the abyss."
A glint flashed in Ian's eyes; this secret technique was similar to his projection technique.
"But the result was even worse." Orion's lips twitched, it was hard to tell if it was a bitter smile or self-mockery.
"Those consciousnesses were scattered the moment they entered the abyss, and they didn't even survive three breaths."
The atmosphere in the study was even more somber.
"The will of the abyss is very special, like a giant immune system." Orion pushed the scroll forward.
"It is extremely sensitive to external rules; any rule that does not belong to the abyss will be detected the moment it enters."
Ian lowered his eyes and continued, "And then?"
Orion sighed. "The Alliance has tried all sorts of methods, including mimicry clones, rule disguises, and even experimenting with using the bodies of abyssal creatures as containers."
"The longest time it survived was only seven days."
"Seven days?" Azshara's eyes were serious.
Orion nodded. "The Alliance used the highest-level stealth runes available at the time to send a level three wizard who successfully entered the first level of the Abyss and survived for seven days."
"But on the seventh day, the will of the abyss still found it."
"If you weren't discovered when you entered, why were you exposed?" Ian asked.
"The will of the abyss has another characteristic: it periodically infiltrates the underlying rules of every layer of the world. As long as you are still in this world, you will leave a trace."
Since then, the alliance has completely halted all large-scale infiltration operations.
After he finished speaking, the study fell silent again.
Ian was puzzled. "Why not just have the True Spirit Wizard, or even the Witch King himself, take action?"
Given Alder's unfathomable strength, the Will of the Abyss should be no match for him.
"Due to the sheer size of the Abyss," Orion's voice grew deep, "the deeper you go, the more severe the distortion of the rules becomes."
"Even a true spirit wizard's strength will be diminished after entering, and even the Witch Emperor is helpless against the terrifying will of the abyss."
He shook his head and didn't continue.
It's not that the alliance doesn't want to send stronger people in; it's that even if they did, they might not be much stronger than a level 5 Radiant Moon, and might even be more dangerous.
Because the suppression of rules is all-encompassing, the higher the cultivation level, the greater the degree of suppression, just like a big fish being thrown into shallow water, no matter how strong it is, it cannot exert its strength.
The will of the abyss permeates every rule of the world; the rules are its tentacles, its nerves.
It cannot be deceived by any fluctuation of rules that does not belong to the abyss.
Ian leaned back in his chair, his eyes half-closed, as if he were lost in thought.
But his mind raced, and the root cause of these failures was actually just one thing: rule incompatibility.
His plan was different from everyone else's.
Once the Multiverse Projection Descent Technique is successfully executed, in the perception of the Abyss Will, it will be recognized as a true native being.
As long as the mimicry rune avoids the initial detection, it can theoretically exist indefinitely.
Ian opened his eyes. "If the Mimicry Concealment rune is upgraded, I wonder what the effect will be?"
Orion stopped drinking his tea and looked over.
"I just tried it out. The mimicry rune can disguise fluctuations for a long time, making it look like an abyss creature from the inside out."
"But for safety's sake, it's best to master projection-type witchcraft."
Orion put down his teacup, and Azshara turned to look at Ian, suddenly remembering something.
"An independent consciousness?" Orion frowned.
"This requires extremely advanced projection magic, and it requires complete isolation from the original body—there are not many wizards in the Alliance who have mastered this kind of projection magic."
"It's not difficult at all; I can do it too."
Ian spoke so casually that the atmosphere in the study froze.
Orion stared at him for a while, wanting to ask how he did it, but ultimately remained silent.
Everyone here is as bright as the sun; there are some things we shouldn't ask about in too much detail.
"And then there's the matter of mimicry runes," Ian changed the subject.
"The Alliance Mimicry Runes that Morton brought weren't precise enough, so after Morton left, I fused my Blind Spot Runes with the Mimicry Runes."
He picked up the dark gray rune crystal from the table and twirled it between his fingers.
"I call it the Abyss Mimicry Rune. It can simulate specified chaotic fluctuations, with a maximum disguise depth up to the third layer of the abyss."
He placed the crystal on the table and pushed it in front of Orion.
Orion picked up the crystal, his expression shifting from curiosity to seriousness.
"Abyssal Mimicry Rune—" he murmured to himself, handing the crystal to Azshara.
Azshara took it and looked at it for a moment, then handed it to Serafina. The three of them had almost identical expressions.
After everyone had checked it over, Orion stood up.
"If this rune really works as you say, then it's not just a matter of penetration."
As a scholar who had studied the abyss for countless years, he understood what this meant better than anyone else present.
Orion turned to look at Azshara and Serafina.
"We need to hold a meeting of all Haori staff."
This is a meeting that is only convened when the survival of the alliance is at stake; the last time it was held was on the eve of the Zerg Frontier War.
Azshara was silent for a few seconds, then nodded slightly. Serafina didn't hesitate, "I agree."
Ian leaned back in his chair, his gaze passing over the three of them and landing on the view outside the window.
Gaga was perched on a tree branch, a grilled fish dangling from its mouth, its tail swishing back and forth, looking quite content.
three days later.
Central City, Hao Ri Council Hall.
As Ian's projection descended, hundreds of gazes swept over at the same time.
Those gazes contained curiosity, indifference, and a few hints of disdain.
Ian didn't pay attention and glanced around the council chamber. The number of Hao Ri present far exceeded his expectations.
Besides Hao Ri, who was from the Wizarding Continent, there were also many people who came from other worlds. Some of them he had seen from afar on the Zerg battlefield, while others were completely unfamiliar to him.
A rough count shows that, apart from a few Hao Ri players who had to stay in key positions, almost everyone in the league who could come had come.
Nearly two hundred Sun Wizards, excluding an unknown number of True Spirit Wizards, represent all the high-end combat power that the wizarding civilization can currently mobilize.
The fact that they are all gathered together today says one thing: the abyss has always been the heaviest shadow in everyone's heart.
Orion stood in the center of the council chamber.
A huge mirror of light floated in front of him, projecting a diagram of the abyss's structure and the coordinates of the Black Corruption Realm that Ian had given him.
Orion looked around and slowly spoke.
"Welcome to the Wizarding Continent. Let me briefly explain my proposed Abyss Project."
"The Alliance has explored the Abyss countless times and failed countless times. Not long ago, the Eternal Sun provided a brand-new mimicry rune, which, when combined with projection magic, can completely evade the perception of the Abyss's will."
He projected the gray crystal onto the screen for all the suns to see.
"Our purpose in this infiltration is not to start a war," Orion's voice became very deep.
"We need to know the power structure of the Abyss World, their specific power distribution, and the exact location of the Abyss Will."
He looked around, his voice impassioned.
"This requires the participation of the entire wizarding civilization. The Alliance's rune masters can replicate the mimicry runes, and the summoners can lock onto more abyssal coordinates."
"However, the executor should ideally possess soul projection magic, and their true form should not enter the abyss. Furthermore, the mimicry runes of all participants must be verified and confirmed to be safe before any action can be taken."
As soon as he finished speaking, a low murmur of discussion arose in the council chamber.
Soon, someone stepped forward.
It was a burly middle-aged man whom Ian did not recognize. The man's aura was heavy, indicating he was at least at the mid-stage of level six.
"The risk is too great. What if the will of the abyss discovers the projection and tracks it back to the real body?"
"The effects of the mimicry rune are still unknown. If there are casualties, who will bear the consequences?"
"Furthermore, how do we share information? After infiltrating different worlds, how do we aggregate intelligence? How do we ensure the authenticity of the information?"
Opposition voices came one after another.
Orion didn't rush to respond; he glanced at Ian.
Ian remained seated, not moving.
The reason these people object is that it's all on a technical level, and technical problems can be solved.
It's not that they don't want to deal with the Abyss; the real question is: is it worth it?
Once the murmurs subsided, Ian slowly stood up.
The council chamber fell silent. Hundreds of eyes turned back to him.
"Gentlemen," Ian's voice wasn't loud, but it reached every corner clearly.
"The issues of risk have already been clearly explained by the previous speakers, and I don't want to repeat them. I only want to say one thing."
O
"The will of the abyss was previously defeated by my teacher."
This statement was like a boulder thrown into the water.
The Witch Emperor, the White Emperor.
This name carries irreplaceable weight in the wizarding civilization.
Every radiant being present knew that in the final battle of the ancient war, it was the White Emperor who struck and shattered the will of the abyss's origin.
But no one connected this to the infiltration of the Abyss; the Abyss's will was broken, but it did not die.
"The will of the abyss is suffering a severe blow," Ian continued calmly.
"This is the best opportunity for infiltration in tens of millions of years. If we don't do it now, the infiltration operation will become even more difficult once the will of the abyss recovers."
He looked around the council chamber.
"As for tracking the original body," Ian said with a slight smirk, "my teacher welcomes it back again."
After saying that, he sat back down.
The council chamber fell silent, and the middle-aged man who had led the opposition earlier said nothing more.
Subsequently, no one else came forward to object.
The vote passed unanimously.
Orion immediately drafted a five-person preparatory team to be responsible for screening participants, upgrading the mimicry runes, and verifying the safety factor.
His finger tapped a few times on the screen, where Ian's name appeared.
Ian lowered his head slightly and transmitted his voice to Orion: "I have other plans. Cross out my name."
""
Orion's brow twitched as he glanced at Ian.
Ian did not explain the details of the Multiverse Projection Descent Technique, not wanting anyone to know.
His projection needs to operate independently and does not want to be monitored or directed by the alliance for the time being.
Orion paused for a moment, crossed out Ian's name, and added another person.
"Eternal Sun has other missions," he explained simply to the people in the council chamber, and no one asked any further questions.
The last item on the agenda was to report to the three True Spirit Wizards.
Orion took out a special communication crystal from his pocket and transmitted the meeting's resolutions.
A moment later, the space of the council hall trembled slightly, and a will descended from the dome of the council hall.
The three spirits agreed to the plan, but then added a condition.
"Strict confidentiality will be maintained; anyone who leaks information will be considered a traitor to the alliance."
Orion put away the communication crystal, looked around, and said, "This matter is settled. Meeting adjourned."
The figures of the radiant figures gradually disappeared, and some of them glanced at Ian before leaving, their gazes complex.
