The swaying carriage crossed a stone bridge and, after reaching the village ahead, it would take about another day for the group to reach the royal city.

The long journey became lively thanks to the two lovable characters, Luna and Lisa.

Originally, Morphy just wanted to play chess with Paul and chat to pass the time, but later, for some reason, Luna and Lisa stood on either side of him, pointing and gesturing, which became a regular occurrence.

"You've pulled this trick again. That's how you lost yesterday, you know that!"

Luna poked Mofi's belly with her finger, and the old count, helpless, had no choice but to make another move. Before the piece was even placed, Lisa on the other side tugged at the wrinkles on the back of his head.

"If you do this and he does that, won't you just miss your chance? Quick, listen to me, go over there."

The two newbies shouted more enthusiastically than anyone else, but when it was their turn to play, they pouted and said it was no fun at all.

Earl Morpheus began to question the Duke's family's upbringing, wondering how children born from the same mother could be so different.

And then there's Count Camillo, such a composed man, how did he raise his daughter, who always likes to lay hands on others?

Paul sat opposite them, ignoring their repeated attempts to take back their moves. He had initially worried that it would upset the old count, but seeing how much he enjoyed it and how he would occasionally look at the two little girls with the eyes of a grandfather, he let them make a ruckus all the way.

Just as the chess game was becoming increasingly incomprehensible, the horse team stopped, and the sound of a little girl crying came from ahead.

The four of them turned their gazes in unison. A moment later, a cavalryman came over to report: "Young lady, there is a swordsman blocking our way ahead."

"So brave?"

Luna thought for a moment and realized that something unexpected must have happened ahead, otherwise no fool would dare to stop eight hundred cavalrymen single-handedly.

She pushed open the carriage door and strode down, followed immediately by Paul and the other two.

"What happened?"

Luna, her face cold, noticed a bruise on the forehead of one of her personal guards, with blood still seeping from the wound. She immediately gripped the hilt of her sword.

The wounded guard pointed to a little girl crying in the swordsman's arms and quickly explained, "Young lady, this little girl kept chasing us and throwing stones at us while we were traveling, and she even hit me on the head."

"I had just walked over to say something to her when the little girl started crying loudly... and then this person came over and said that we were bullying the weak, and he wouldn't let us leave."

Luna understood, nodded and stepped forward. Coincidentally, she was extremely familiar with the swordsman's appearance.

"Ha, no wonder this disgusting scene looked so familiar. It turns out it's time for the hero to perform again."

Thorne, holding the little girl, looked up and saw Luna. He paused for a moment, then sighed heavily.

However, his small action suddenly triggered a commotion. The cavalrymen who had just been on guard all drew their swords and charged forward, surrounding him from all directions.

The cavalrymen's faces were fierce; they were certain that the man would not breathe his last breath once the young lady gave the order.

A cold glint flashed, and even a brave warrior would feel a chill run down his spine. There was no way to escape, not to mention that he was holding a child in his arms.

Seeing that the young lady seemed genuinely intent on killing the hero, Mofi quickly stepped forward to stop her, reminding her, "Young lady, calm down. We're near a village, and there are too many witnesses. Don't forget, we're here on a mission, and the mission must come first."

Upon hearing this, Luna turned her head and indeed saw the villagers gathered not far away. In front of them was an anxious middle-aged woman, looking at them expectantly; she was probably the girl's mother...

"Forget it, if it were a kid from the Northern Territory, I'd give her a good spanking, but this is someone else's territory, so let's just bear with it as much as we can."

After Luna finished speaking, she walked up to the wounded cavalryman and handed him her handkerchief.

"Go get it treated, apply some ointment, and make sure it doesn't leave a scar."

The cavalryman was somewhat moved and quickly replied with a smile, "Yes, Miss."

After this little incident, Luna turned around, leaving Thorne with only her back view. "Let me tell you, Thorne, put away your carefully crafted arrogance from now on. You are not qualified to put on airs in front of me."

The caravan continued on its way, and Thorne was sweating profusely. He was absolutely certain that Luna truly intended to kill him.

But we're all classmates, it was just a minor conflict on campus, why are we so angry about it?

Or is it that, no matter how time changes, he is destined to be an enemy of everyone in the Northern Territory?

……

In the evening, the caravan set up camp near an ancient city. After resting for the night, they would arrive at the capital city by noon the next day.

The knights naturally divided the work: some were responsible for going to the city to purchase supplies, others for setting up tents and patrolling, and the rest of the cavalry went to the forest to cut wood and light campfires.

The closer Paul got to the royal city, the more preoccupied he became.

He still didn't know how to return to the Vatican. After his mission to protect Luna was over, he would eventually have to face everything.

Luna and Lisa were playfully fighting nearby. They threw all the dishes they didn't like into the old count's bowl, and then each started fighting over the meat in the other's bowl.

Paul couldn't stand the noise any longer, so he quickly finished his dinner, left the camp, and went for a walk on the road next to it, continuing to think about his own things.

"What do you think he's struggling with? Is he planning to kill him with one blow, or is he intending to capture him and torture him slowly?"

Lisa shook her head. "No, he's a soft-hearted man. If he can't be killed with one blow, I doubt he'll be able to bring himself to do it again."

The three people not far away started cricket fighting behind their backs. After listening to Luna and Lisa's words and understanding some of the truth, the old count sighed, "You are all wrong. He won't make a move."

Luna tilted her head, puzzled. "Why? If you were going through all this, could you resist the urge to stab the other person to death?"

amount……

The old count couldn't relate to this situation. He had lived a happy life, and he and his wife had always been very loving. Apart from having to deal with a young and domineering superior in his later years, he was very satisfied with his life.

"Because they are his family, even though they don't consider him family, he still won't..."

"Wait, there are two strange little children coming from ahead."

Lisa interrupted Morpheus, then slowly revealed a strange expression, looking somewhat uneasy.

The two people standing nearby turned their gazes to the two golden-haired children, a boy and a girl, walking hand in hand on their way home in the setting sun.

The girl had a serene smile and a lovely appearance, but the boy... all three of them found it hard to look at him. He was a perfectly normal little boy, but he looked like he had Parkinson's disease, walking with a swaying head.

Twitching hips, sudden thrusts, exaggerated expressions, and electrifyingly seductive eyes...

The most unbelievable thing is that the little girl next to her was actually laughing the whole time!

"I can't take it anymore. I want to laugh, but I'm afraid he really is sick." Luna covered her eyes in anguish. Kid, what are you doing with that innocent face of yours? Are you polluting the minds of the witnesses?

"Haha, Luna, keep watching! Paul seems to be losing it too. He was stunned for a long time, but now he's chasing after them into the city. Is he going to take him to see a doctor?"

Before Lisa could finish speaking, the old count quickly realized something was wrong.

Blonde hair, children, a boy and a girl...

"Quickly! Young lady! Order the cavalry to assemble! This is a trap; they're after Paul!"

Paul stared blankly at that familiar figure, and unknowingly entered the ancient city.

He strode forward, intending to grab the two children, when suddenly the city gate slammed shut behind him.

What?

His vision dimmed in an instant. Paul snapped back to reality and instinctively took a step back, the two daggers grazing his clothes.

The two children, no longer innocent as before, quickly threw daggers at Paul when their first attack failed.

The sound of something cutting through the air approached, and Paul easily parried with his sword sheath. The accuracy of the throw and the force of the dagger made him realize that something was wrong.

The children scattered and ran into the alley, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Paul drew his sword, and in the silent city, figures appeared one after another from the end of the road.

There were about fifteen people, all dressed in black, their faces covered with layers of black veils, revealing only a pair of hazy gray eyes. In their right hands they held a rusty long knife, and in their left hands they held a burning candlestick.

The candlestick flame flickered, and the figures disappeared one after another. In the remaining sunlight on the ground, groups of dark shadows rushed toward him at lightning speed!

Boom!

Paul started to block, and a violent explosion came from behind him, sending debris flying everywhere.

Floating in mid-air, Lisa held her staff and forcefully blasted open the city gate. Immediately afterward, Luna led her cavalry in.

But Paul had no time to reunite with them. In the blink of an eye, the shadowy figure appeared at his feet, folding as if space itself were distorted, and a long sword stabbed out sharply from within the upright shadow.

With a clang and sparks flying, Paul stepped forward to block the attack, deflecting the longsword while simultaneously slashing forward.

The shadow was cleaved in two, but the blade did not provide any real tactile sensation.

Before he could think, several long swords invaded his reality from unexpected angles. Paul leaped backward, parried with his sword, and then shattered the blades with a single, powerful strike.

The moment the distance was created, Lisa's bombardment spell came whistling through the air, like a cannon blast, using the earth-shattering explosion to repel all the shadows.

Taking advantage of the lull, Paul, still shaken, retreated into the cavalry, took the reins from the rider, and mounted his horse.

He frowned, still pondering the feel of the blade, "What exactly are these things?"

At the very center of the cavalry, the old count, surrounded by protective guards, lay panting on his horse, saying, "These aren't human; they're created using magic to modify the human body. I saw them in the royal city when I was young; many people died that night..."

The relentless bombardment of magic caused Luna's face to alternate between black and white. She hurriedly said to Morphy, "Stop reminiscing! Lisa's magic isn't limitless. Quickly tell us how to deal with these shadowy creatures."

"I don't know. These things are intangible and won't stop until sunrise. They will keep hunting down their targets."

The old count regained his senses and swallowed hard. "But I know how to avoid them. As long as we can hide in the water, we'll be safe."
