The Longevity Family: Starting from the Foundation Establishment Ancestor
Chapter 500 The Grand Finale
Han Mu held his wine glass, watching the sunset gradually darken, its color changing from golden yellow to orange-red, then from orange-red to deep purple, finally merging into the night. One by one, the stars lit up, like lanterns lit across the sky. He finished the last sip of his wine, stood up, and stretched languidly, his bones cracking with each breath.
Just then, footsteps came from the courtyard gate, unhurried and rhythmic on the bluestone slabs. Han Mu turned his head and saw the Hongmeng Dao Ancestor carrying a bamboo broom, slowly walking in. The moonlight shone on his bald head, reflecting a soft halo.
"Father-in-law, what brings you here?" Han Mu was taken aback for a moment, then quickly went to greet him.
"I came here because I wanted to." Hongmeng Daozu leaned the broom against the corner of the wall, patted the dust off his hands, and did so as naturally as if he were at home. "I got tired of that place, so I moved to another place for a few days. Sweeping those same few streets every day, I could tell which brick had a crack with my eyes closed. It's boring."
Han Mu smiled and quickly invited his father-in-law into the house. Hongmeng Fairy was mending a garment under the lamp. Seeing her father arrive, she was so happy she dropped her needle and rushed to the kitchen to add food. Han Nian also ran over, grabbing his grandfather's hand and asking all sorts of questions, saying, "Grandpa, teach me how to sweep! I want to learn your broom-fighting skills too!" Hongmeng Daozu laughed heartily, patted Han Nian's head, and said, "Alright, I'll teach you tomorrow."
The courtyard suddenly became lively.
The next morning, Han Mu was still asleep when he was awakened by Luo Feng's shouts. The voice was sharp and urgent, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"My lord, my lord, something terrible has happened!" Luo Feng's voice came from the courtyard, he was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, and he even forgot to knock on the door.
Han Mu got out of bed, put on his clothes, and went out of the room. He saw Luo Feng standing in the yard, holding a letter in his hand, his face pale, and his lips trembling.
"What's wrong? Did the sky fall or the earth cave in?" Han Mu yawned.
"The Supreme Council has sent another letter, saying they want to visit you and will arrive today." Luo Feng handed over the letter, his hands trembling.
Han Mu took the letter and saw that it was indeed true. The letter stated that the seven members of the Supreme Council would arrive at the Temple of Creation at noon today to discuss important matters. The handwriting was neat, and the tone was polite, but it conveyed an air of unyielding authority. Han Mu frowned. He had only been back for a day, and before he could even settle in, these old guys had already come chasing after him.
"Let them come, be prepared to welcome them," Han Mu said calmly, putting the letter away.
Luo Feng opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but seeing Han Mu's calm expression, he swallowed his words and turned to inform Zhou Meng and Han Li to prepare for the reception. He ran so fast that he tripped on the threshold and almost fell flat on his face.
Just as noon arrived, a sudden burst of golden light erupted above the Temple of Creation, so bright it was blinding. Seven figures descended from the sky, landing in the center of the courtyard, the impact cracking the flagstones beneath their feet. Seven bald old men stood in a row, each exuding a deep, imposing aura, like seven mountains pressing down on the courtyard. Their heads reflected the blinding sunlight, making it painful to look at. Luo Feng quickly shielded his eyes, muttering under his breath, "So bright."
Han Mu went up to greet them, cupped his hands and said, "It is an honor to have seven seniors grace us with their presence. Please forgive me for not welcoming you sooner."
The elderly man at the head of the table smiled and said, "Teacher Han, there's no need to be so polite. We've come here for two reasons: first, to congratulate you on the successful completion of your teaching duties; and second, to present you with a gift."
"A gift." Han Mu was somewhat surprised.
The old man took out a palm-sized golden token from his sleeve. A complex rune was engraved on the token, emitting a faint glow, as if light flowed within it. He handed the token to Han Mu, saying, "This is the Supreme Honor Token. The holder of this token can travel freely in any dimension without any restrictions and can mobilize some of the resources of the Supreme Council. You are the third person in the entire Cosmic Sea to obtain this token."
Han Mu accepted the token; it was warm and heavy in his hand, and he knew how significant this gift was. He cupped his hands and said, "Thank you for your kindness, seniors."
"No need to thank me, you deserve it," the old man said with a smile. Then he turned to look at the environment of the Temple of Creation and nodded. "This place is nice. The scenery is good and the air is fresh. It's much better than our dilapidated palace. We've been looking at those few pillars for tens of thousands of years and we're tired of it."
"You flatter me, senior. Why don't you stay for a meal before you leave?" Han Mu said politely.
"Then we'll have to trouble you." The old man agreed without any hesitation, and the other six old men nodded in agreement, their faces showing anticipation.
Han Mu's lips twitched. He had only been being polite, but he hadn't expected the other party to actually agree. However, the words were already out, and there was no going back, so he could only ask Fairy Hongmeng to prepare lunch.
Lunch was lavishly prepared. Fairy Hongmeng showcased her culinary skills, preparing a table laden with dishes including braised pork belly, steamed fish, braised pork hock, and chicken soup, the aroma wafting far and wide. The seven members of the Supreme Council sat around the table, munching enthusiastically, their chopsticks flying as they devoured each dish in the blink of an eye. The jar of wine brought by Luo Feng was particularly popular, with the seven old men vying for it, nearly coming to blows at the table. The elder at the head of the table held onto the wine jar tightly, declaring he'd fight anyone who dared to take it from him.
After finishing their meal, the seven elderly men took their leave, each packing a roast chicken to take home for a late-night snack. After seeing them off, Han Mu returned to the courtyard, let out a long sigh of relief, and slumped into a recliner.
"Those old guys are finally gone." Han Mu rubbed his temples.
Fairy Hongmeng walked over with a cup of tea, handed it to him, and said with a smile, "I think they are nice people, just a little greedy."
"He's more than just gluttonous, he's practically a reincarnated starving ghost." Han Mu took a sip of tea and shook his head helplessly.
Just then, Han Nian ran over, holding a painting in her hand, and said excitedly, "Daddy, I repainted the family portrait. Look, it's much better this time!"
Han Mu took the painting, unfolded it, and his eyes lit up immediately. There were several more people in the painting than before. In addition to the original people, there was also the Hongmeng Dao Ancestor and the crooked-necked tree, and even Tie Niu and several students were squeezed in a corner. Everyone had a smile on their face, and the scene was warm and lively. Even the osmanthus tree in the courtyard was painted.
"It's beautifully painted." Han Mu looked at the painting and felt a warm feeling well up in his heart.
He put the painting away, stood up, and looked at the lively scene in the courtyard. The Hongmeng Dao Ancestor and the crooked-necked tree were bickering again, one saying, "Your leaves have all fallen off," and the other saying, "Your head is brighter than mine." Luo Feng circled around Han Li, trying to trick him into revealing the array technique manual, but Han Li held onto his pocket tightly and wouldn't let go. Zhou Meng was discussing the guard team's training plan with Han Nian, the two talking animatedly. The Hongmeng Fairy was busy in the kitchen, the sound of the spatula stirring and the aroma wafting out.
Han Mu watched all this, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up.
He rose from a lowly Foundation Establishment cultivator in the Realm of Immortality to where he is today, enduring countless life-or-death trials, experiencing loss and gain, pain and joy. Now, he finally possesses everything he desired: a healthy family, friends by his side, and a peaceful life.
Han Mu walked to the edge of the pond, picked up the old fishing rod, baited it, and cast the line. The float bobbed gently on the water, creating ripples that spread outwards.
The sun shines warmly on my body, and a gentle breeze caresses my face, carrying the fragrance of flowers and the aroma of cooking.
Han Mu closed his eyes, a smile playing on his lips.
You could live a life like this forever and never get tired of it.
