Wizard: I have ten trillion nanomachines
Chapter 18 Defeat
Eight soldiers worked together to loosen the winch, and a specially made crossbow bolt, over two meters long, shot towards its right eye with a piercing whistle, like a black lightning bolt.
The arrow was so fast that it even left a faint afterimage in the air.
But the bear seemed to sense the danger. It suddenly tilted its head, and the crossbow bolt grazed its eye socket and pierced the rock armor on its left shoulder.
With a muffled "thud," the arrowhead easily tore through the outer layer of peat crust, penetrated the ten-centimeter-thick composite armor, and most of the arrow shaft went directly into the giant bear's body!
"Hit!"
The soldiers on the platform erupted in cheers, their faces beaming with ecstasy.
The armor-piercing falcon had achieved its first success, and they thought that this arrow would be enough to severely injure the giant beast.
However, the cheers stopped abruptly the next second.
The giant bear raised its right paw, its thick claws seemingly forged from steel, and easily grasped the exposed arrow tail.
With a tooth-grinding tearing sound, the giant bear forcefully pulled the two-meter-long specially made crossbow bolt out of its body!
Dark red blood gushed from the wound, as thick as tar, but was quickly absorbed by the iron-tipped keratin layer beneath the rock armor the moment it came into contact with the air.
The humus and iron ore fragments at the edge of the wound began to slowly wriggle, gathering together as if they were alive, gradually filling the wound, and the repair speed was astonishing.
The giant bear looked down at the crossbow bolt in its hand, its right eye flashing a ferocious red light, its previously lazy gaze instantly replaced by rage.
It suddenly raised its head, staring at the "Armor-Piercing Falcon" on the high platform, and let out a low roar from its throat, like muffled thunder.
The next second, it swung its arm and the crossbow bolt in its hand shot through the sky like a cannonball, whistling as it accurately struck the high platform!
Boom—!
A deafening roar erupted as the specially made crossbow bolt slammed into the armor-piercing falcon.
The crossbow core bent and broke instantly, and the enormous impact caused the entire platform to collapse.
The eight soldiers operating the armored falcon didn't even have time to scream before they were crushed into a bloody pulp by the collapsing support and rubble!
Debris and broken parts flew everywhere, and blood stained the ground around the platform.
"What? This is impossible!" Several knights were so shocked that they drew their swords, their faces filled with disbelief.
This behemoth not only has incredible defense, but it also possesses such precise throwing ability?!
Moreover, it knows to prioritize eliminating the targets that pose the greatest threat to it!
This means that the other party possesses considerable intelligence.
Earl Wimbledon's face turned ashen. He immediately drew his giant axe and roared, "Execute the backup plan! Archers, fire arrows to lure the enemy; catapults, switch to grappling hooks! Shield wall advance; spear and lance formations follow! Knights, prepare!"
Upon receiving the order, the archers immediately released their bowstrings, and a dense barrage of arrows rained down on the giant bear, attempting to distract it.
The catapult was reloaded, and the anchor hook with the iron chain was launched, whistling as it flew toward the giant bear, intending to entangle it.
The infantrymen formed a shield wall and advanced step by step, the sound of heavy shields clashing in unison. The spearmen followed closely behind, their spears pointing diagonally forward, forming a defensive line.
Enraged, the giant bear roared and charged with heavy steps toward the nearest infantry phalanx.
Just then, the catapult's trebuchet launched its hooks with a whooshing sound as it flew toward the giant bear and entangled its limbs.
At the same time, a barrage of arrows rained down on the giant bear.
Annoyed by the arrows and grappling hooks, the giant bear stomped its hind legs and charged back towards the archers' position like a moving hill.
The swamp sank deeper and deeper under its trampling, leaving footprints up to half a meter deep with every step, and black mud and humus were kicked up.
Soldiers who had no time to dodge were crushed by the giant bear, the sound of bones shattering clearly audible, and they instantly turned into a pile of minced meat.
"Shield wall! Hold on!" the centurion roared, and the front-line soldiers quickly assembled heavy shields into a wall.
The giant bear slammed into the shield wall with a series of cracking sounds. More than a dozen heavy shields dented and shattered instantly, and the shield-bearing soldiers were thrown back several meters by the enormous impact, spitting out blood.
Then, the giant bear swung its head, and the rock armor crashed into the gap in the shield wall, dragging dozens more soldiers under its claws, their screams echoing everywhere.
With each step it took, the earth trembled violently, mud flew everywhere, and meticulously constructed walls crumbled easily before it, like paper.
The impact sent the heavy infantryman flying, spitting blood, his fate unknown.
With a sweeping motion, the heavy tower shield was easily shattered, and the soldiers, along with their weapons, were turned into mincemeat, their blood and flesh splattering across the swamp's mud.
Dozens of soldiers were killed in an instant, as if they were swatting an insect.
"A monster! This is a monster! How could a human possibly hunt such a monster!"
A young soldier was terrified by the horrific scene before him. He dropped his spear and turned to run away.
"No retreat! Or—die!"
A cold shout rang out, and a supervisory team composed of knights' squires and noble confidants, armed with swords and fully armored, positioned themselves at the rear of the formation.
The retreating soldier had just turned around when he was stabbed in the back by a member of the supervisory team. The sword tip pierced through his chest, and blood gushed out. His body was kicked down in front of the formation as a warning to the others.
"Anyone who dares to back down will suffer the same fate!" The supervisory team members' eyes were fierce, and their long swords were pointed directly at the hesitant soldiers.
"Those who advance will be rewarded with ten gold coins; those who retreat will be killed without mercy!"
The one leading the shouting was none other than Lynn Carl, the genius knight from the Carl family.
He was clad in a bright silver half-body armor, his face handsome yet carrying a hint of arrogance.
Looking at the trembling soldiers, his eyes were full of contempt.
These lowly commoners, whom the nobles spent a lot of gold coins to train, actually dared to run away at the crucial moment.
He wasn't the only one who thought this way; others did too.
As nobles, they were born with a sense of superiority.
Then, in the next instant, the splattered blood and flesh covered the supervisory team.
The giant bear's sharp claws swept across, and dozens of soldiers blocking the way for the supervisory team were cut into pieces of mangled flesh.
Whether they wore half-body armor or full-body armor, whether they wore leather armor or iron armor, it made no difference; they were all shredded into pieces.
The next moment, the giant bear grabbed Lynn Carl, who was still in a daze.
The genius knight didn't even have a chance to resist before the giant bear lifted him high and threw him into its mouth.
With a "crack," the sound of bones breaking was clearly audible.
The giant bear chewed a few times, seemingly dissatisfied with the taste, but still swallowed it.
If a giant bear could talk, it might comment: "Although the taste isn't great, the texture is quite chewy."
Upon witnessing such a horrifying scene, the previously fierce-looking members of the supervisory team were instantly terrified. Their fierce expressions were replaced by fear, and some even threw away their weapons and ran away.
The army was in complete disarray, and the rout was as unstoppable as a flood. The soldiers scattered like headless flies, pushing and trampling each other.
