Chapter 71 I, Professor Chen, invite a Class D vengeful spirit to possess me.
He picked up the chalk and drew a twisted rune on the whiteboard.
"Inviting a ghost to possess you is extremely risky. If you're not careful, at best your spirit will be damaged, at worst you'll be permanently possessed and become a walking corpse." He spoke calmly, but the content of his words made many students uneasy.
"However, everyone here is an elite, and I believe you are all confident in your mental strength." Professor Chen changed the subject, his tone becoming more relaxed.
"Now, I'll demonstrate for you. This time, I've summoned a D-rank vengeful spirit. It was just an ordinary person in life, and nothing special after its death. Its power is weak, so it's easy to control."
As Professor Chen spoke, he took a small, black wooden plaque from his pocket. The plaque was engraved with simple patterns. He placed the plaque on the podium, then clasped his hands together and muttered something.
In the classroom, everyone stared at Professor Chen.
A chilling aura began to spread through the classroom. It was faint, but everyone could feel it.
Professor Chen's body trembled slightly. Fine black lines appeared on his face. His voice also became somewhat hoarse.
"I, Professor Chen, hereby invite a Class D vengeful spirit to possess me," he roared.
A semi-transparent figure slowly rose from the wooden sign. The figure was a pale-faced woman with a look of bewilderment in her eyes. It slowly floated towards Professor Chen.
Professor Chen closed his eyes. The vengeful spirit's figure entered his body.
His eyes snapped open, his pupils turning pitch black. He raised his hand, his fingertips flickering with a ghostly blue light.
"This is the state after being possessed by a ghost," Professor Chen said in his hoarse voice. "I can use the power of vengeful spirits to perform some inhuman magic."
With a wave of his hand, the chalk box on the podium floated up into the air and then gently fell back down.
The students gasped softly.
A few minutes later, Professor Chen's body trembled again. The vengeful spirit separated from his body and returned to the wooden plaque. The black marks on his face disappeared, and his eyes regained their clarity.
"Alright, demonstration complete." Professor Chen wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
"Is anyone interested in coming up and giving it a try?" he asked.
As soon as he finished speaking, a boy sitting diagonally behind Lin Che stood up abruptly.
His name is Li Mingzhe, and he is the class monitor of the elite class. He is handsome and exudes confidence. He is also one of the best students.
"Professor, I'll do it!" Li Mingzhe said loudly.
Professor Chen glanced at him: "Oh? Mingzhe, which ghost are you planning to invite?"
Li Mingzhe took out a talisman from his pocket, which was a size larger than Professor Chen's wooden plaque. The runes on the talisman were more complex, and a fierce aura emanated from it.
"Professor, I've hired a C-level vengeful ghost." Li Mingzhe said with a smug smile. "This ghost was a notorious bandit on the northern border in life. Even after death, its malevolent aura lingers, making it far more powerful than a D-level vengeful spirit."
In the classroom, many students gasped in shock. A C-level demon! That was no joke.
Professor Chen gave him an approving look: "Not bad, Mingzhe. But remember, you need to control it well. The backlash from a C-level vengeful ghost is far greater than that of a D-level vengeful spirit."
Li Mingzhe walked to the front of the classroom and placed the talisman on the table. He glanced at Lin Che, a hint of provocation in his eyes.
"A special admission student? I've heard you're quite capable. Today I'll show you what real talent is." Li Mingzhe thought to himself.
He imitated Professor Chen, putting his hands together and chanting incantations.
The talisman began to tremble violently, emitting a dense black aura. A massive black shadow struggled out of the talisman. It was over two meters tall, its entire body shrouded in black mist, and it let out a low, hissing roar.
A chilling aura, several times stronger than before, instantly filled the entire classroom.
A dark figure rushed towards Li Mingzhe. Li Mingzhe's expression was serious, and his body tensed.
"Enter!" he roared.
The dark shadow suddenly disappeared into Li Mingzhe's body.
Li Mingzhe's body swelled up, veins bulged on his forehead, and his eyes turned bloodshot. He exuded an astonishing aura of oppression.
He raised his hand, black energy swirling around his fingertips. He then slammed his fist into the podium.
"Bang!"
The sturdy podium instantly developed cracks.
The students gasped again, this time with admiration.
Li Mingzhe succeeded! He summoned a C-level ghost and was able to control it perfectly.
He withdrew his fist, his gaze sweeping over Lin Che once more. The provocation was even more obvious now.
A few minutes later, the ghost separated from Li Mingzhe's body. Li Mingzhe was pale and swayed, but he still stood firmly.
"Good! Mingzhe, you did an excellent job." Professor Chen applauded.
Applause erupted in the classroom.
Li Mingzhe returned to his seat, and as he sat down, he didn't forget to give Lin Che a disdainful look.
Professor Chen's gaze shifted to Lin Che.
"Lin Che, what about you?" Professor Chen asked. "Would you like to give it a try too?"
The applause in the classroom stopped. All eyes were once again focused on Lin Che.
They wanted to see what this "connected person" could do.
Lin Che sat in his seat, holding Su Hongyi's hand. Su Hongyi's hand was a little cold.
He looked up at Professor Chen, then at the students beside him whose faces were filled with mockery.
"Me?" Lin Che smiled. "Professor, I don't think I need to."
Professor Chen looked slightly puzzled: "What? Lin Che, are you afraid?"
Li Mingzhe was the first to laugh: "I think he's just a coward! He can't even handle a C-level ghost, and he calls himself an elite!"
In the classroom, some students joined in the laughter.
"Yeah, a specially admitted student is just a specially admitted student. They don't seem to be that great."
"I doubt they could even summon a D-level vengeful spirit."
Lin Che ignored the mockery. He looked at Professor Chen and shrugged.
"Professor, it's not that I'm afraid," Lin Che said, "it's mainly because my wife—she's a bit arrogant. This place is probably too small to accommodate her."
The laughter in the classroom stopped abruptly as soon as he said that.
All the students were stunned.
They didn't react at first, but when they understood what Lin Che meant, their laughter grew even louder.
"Hahaha, did I hear that right? He said his wife is arrogant?"
"What kind of excuse is that? What does being possessed by a ghost have to do with your wife?"
"Too small a temple to accommodate everyone? Is he implying his wife is a ghost emperor? That's an outrageous boast!"
Li Mingzhe laughed so hard he almost fell over, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Lin Che, are you even capable?" Li Mingzhe mocked. "If you can't, just admit it. Don't make up such a ridiculous excuse!"
Professor Chen was also somewhat amused and exasperated. He shook his head and looked at Lin Che.
"Lin Che, you've gone a bit too far with this joke," Professor Chen said. "Since you don't want to demonstrate, then forget it. Next up—"
He thought Lin Che was giving him a way out.
Lin Che looked at the students who were laughing so hard their shoulders were shaking, and then looked at Su Hongyi.
Su Hongyi's eyes showed a hint of displeasure. She didn't like others mocking Lin Che like that.
Lin Che gently patted the back of her hand.
He pondered to himself. It seemed these "chosen ones" still hadn't learned their lesson.
He looked up at Professor Chen and said, "Professor, I'm really not joking."
He paused, his tone becoming somewhat serious.
"There's simply no room for it here."
His words once again drew ridicule from some people.
But Lin Che's gaze deepened.
He knew that the happier these people were now, the more embarrassed they would be later.
However, not now.
