Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey
Chapter 4, Day 1
When Lu Mingfei arrived at the cargo hold, the sight before him made him gasp. The once neatly stacked suitcases were now scattered everywhere, with boxes of various colors broken, and clothes, toiletries, and books strewn all over the floor.
He didn't know which suitcase belonged to the medical student. In this mess, even if the medical student came by himself, he probably wouldn't be able to find his things in a short time. All he could do was search through the suitcases one by one, clumsily opening each lid with his still-functioning left hand.
At this moment, Lu Mingfei was shivering from the cold, his teeth chattering uncontrollably. He endured the pain in his shoulder and began rummaging through his suitcase. He then found several neatly folded shirts and thick wool sweaters in a broken suitcase.
He immediately grabbed a camel-colored sweater and put it on, then grabbed a white shirt and wrapped it over it. Although the clothes didn't fit, they were better than being shirtless.
As he continued searching, several rugby players staggered toward the cockpit. The captain was dead; his body was twisted at an unbelievable angle, the entire instrument panel almost embedded in his chest, and blood congealed on the control panel.
The captain, an Air Force colonel from Uruguay, had his eyes open, but his pupils were fully dilated.
"Damn it..." a rugby player muttered under his breath. They all knew that the Uruguayan Air Force was dirt poor, so they usually chartered out planes to generate revenue for the air force.
What used to generate a few thousand dollars in revenue has now resulted in the loss of a multi-million dollar plane and so many lives.
The co-pilot was still alive, but his condition was equally bad. His chest was almost embedded in the instrument panel, just like the captain's. Every breath he took was accompanied by blood and foam, making a hoarse sound. His face was deathly pale, and he looked like he wouldn't live much longer.
"Where are we now? Is the radio still working?" a rugby player immediately asked anxiously, while fiddling with the radio.
But the radio didn't respond at all, so it must have been damaged in the crash.
"We flew over Curicó...we flew over Curicó..." the co-pilot repeated over and over, this was the only information he knew.
The rugby players tried to pull him out of the deformed driver's seat, but they failed. The metal parts had completely pierced through his body, and they had no choice but to give up.
At this moment, Lu Mingfei finally found an exquisite glass perfume bottle among the scattered luggage.
He didn't know if this was the cologne the medical student had mentioned, but he didn't care anymore. He grabbed the bottle, picked up a few clean-looking clothes, and stumbled back to the cabin.
At this moment, the medical student carefully pulled out the iron rod stuck in Nuonuo's back, and blood gushed out immediately. He snatched the perfume bottle from Lu Mingfei's hand, unscrewed the cap, and sprayed the transparent liquid continuously onto Nuonuo's hideous wound.
The stinging pain from the alcohol irritating the wound caused Nono, even in her unconscious state, to twitch involuntarily. The medical students then tore the clothes that Lu Mingfei had brought into strips and used them to bandage the wound.
"That's all I can do." The medical student wiped the sweat from his brow, then got up and left to care for the other wounded.
Lu Mingfei finally breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed to the ground. But as soon as he breathed a sigh of relief, the excruciating pain in his right shoulder intensified. Not only that, but the continuous wails of pain around him also began to reach his ears clearly.
Only then did he begin to truly notice the horrific scene around him: a middle-aged woman was trapped by a pile of twisted chairs, her legs irregularly twisted, white bone spurs piercing her skin, indicating they were completely broken.
Not far away, a young man had his abdomen pierced by a steel pipe. With each breath, the pipe swayed slightly, bringing out more blood and foam. Even more horrifying, someone else's thigh had been severed by a metal plate, and blood gushed out like a fountain. White bone fragments were faintly visible among the flesh and blood. The medical student who had just bandaged Nuonuo was there, trying to stop the bleeding.
He also saw many corpses, all of them twisted in different ways. One corpse's head was twisted to its back, its empty eyes staring directly at him, the last vestiges of terror still frozen in those dilated pupils.
Lu Mingfei felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He quickly covered his mouth to prevent himself from vomiting on the spot. This was the first time in his life he had ever seen dead people, and so many of them at that, scattered like carelessly discarded rag dolls throughout the cabin.
"We need to get all the wounded out! Clear the entire cabin!" shouted a rugby player with an abdominal injury.
He was Marcelo, the captain of the rugby team. Although he was bleeding, his voice was still powerful, and most of the survivors were willing to follow his orders.
Those who were still able to move began to carry the wounded out of the cabin. Lu Mingfei and a rugby player carefully lifted Nuonuo. Although the distance was not far, both of them were panting heavily.
The air here is very thin, and each breath requires great effort to obtain enough oxygen, which exacerbates their physical exertion. Lu Mingfei began to feel difficulty breathing and his temples throbbed. He wondered if this was the altitude sickness that his geography teacher had talked about in geography class.
If so, they are at least 3,000 meters above sea level, and only at this altitude would they experience altitude sickness.
When Lu Mingfei and the rugby player struggled to carry Nuonuo to the outside of the cabin, their legs gave way and they sank into the snow. The snow outside the cabin was waist-deep, and every step required tremendous effort, with snowflakes still falling from the sky.
His vision was filled with white, nothing but snow and snow-covered hills, accompanied by a biting cold.
Some uninjured rugby players took out their suitcases and laid them on the snow so that the injured players wouldn't lie directly on the snow.
"Hey! The sun's about to set! We need to clear out a place in the cabin for us to spend the night as soon as possible!" said the rugby player who helped Lu Mingfei carry Nuonuo out.
"Hmm." Lu Mingfei nodded. He didn't know the other person, but in such an emergency, they had to work together to have any chance of survival.
He glanced worriedly at Nono lying on the suitcase. Her pale face looked even more bloodless against the backdrop of the snow, but her red hair appeared even more vibrant in the snow.
He then returned to the cabin and began working with the others to move the twisted and deformed chairs out.
