Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey

Chapter 12 Obtaining Water

Lu Mingfei stepped outside the cabin. The majestic snow-capped mountains and azure sky in the distance were still beautiful, but he had no time to appreciate them. His immediate priority was to find a way to get water. Feeding Nuonuo as before was definitely not an option.

Putting aside whether Nuonuo could accept it, his own mouth couldn't handle eating so much snow, especially since Nuonuo had just bitten his tongue. He couldn't imagine how unpleasant it would feel to eat another bite of snow.

Moreover, he himself urgently needs to replenish fluids. Although the food is accompanied by some alcohol, it is not enough to drink. As an injured person, Nono cannot drink alcohol, as it is not conducive to wound recovery.

Just then, Lu Mingfei noticed that outside the cabin, several rugby players were gathered together, working hard.

They took the empty wine bottles and other bottles they found, stuffed clean snow into them, and then began to shake the bottles wildly up and down and side to side, trying to melt the snow inside through vigorous movement.

Lu Mingfei moved closer to observe and saw that the burly young men were exhausted, their faces flushed and panting heavily, but the amount of water dissolved in the bottles was pitifully small, only a thin layer at the bottom, not even enough to moisten their throats.

They had clearly realized they couldn't eat the snow directly and wanted to get water this way, but after shaking it until they were panting, only a little water had melted in the bottle.

Lu Mingfei's right hand had improved considerably; the frightening purple bruise was slowly fading, and he could move his right hand a little. However, he still couldn't shake the bottle so violently.

Using only one hand to shake the water, he could shake it for ages and only get a little water out, not enough for two people to drink. Besides, he had only eaten so little, how could he possibly do any strenuous exercise?

He must find a more efficient method.

Lu Mingfei frowned and began to rack his brains. He recalled the knowledge about obtaining water in snowy or water-scarce environments from the wilderness survival shows he had watched, the popular science articles he had read, and even the survival games he had played.

"Heat... a continuous supply of heat is needed to melt the snow..." he muttered to himself, his gaze sweeping over everything around him that could be used.

Plane wreckage? Most of the flammable materials were either burned or scattered in the distant snow and difficult to collect when the plane crashed.

Sunlight? Although the daytime sunlight feels warm, the ambient temperature is still below zero, and direct sunlight is not enough to quickly melt a large amount of snow.

His gaze wandered aimlessly until suddenly, something reflected a blinding light that momentarily dazzled the corner of his eye.

He squinted and looked in the direction of the light. There were rows of seats with their covers removed, and behind each seat there seemed to be a piece of metal.

Lu Mingfei immediately ran over and brushed away the frost and dust on the seat frame. Sure enough, there was a metal plate on the back of the seat for reinforcement. He tried to pry it open and found that the metal plate was thinner and softer than he had imagined.

"This is... an aluminum sheet?" Lu Mingfei was overjoyed.

Aluminum is much easier to process than iron sheets, it is lightweight, and it has good thermal conductivity. A vague idea began to take shape in his mind.

He painstakingly removed the thin aluminum sheet from the seat frame. The sheet was about the size of a laptop, with slightly rough edges, but was generally flat.

He folded the main part of the aluminum sheet into a slightly deep groove, and then cleverly folded the front end into an outward-opening funnel shape. This not only increased the area for receiving sunlight, but also guided the melted water in one direction.

Then the angle was repeatedly adjusted so that the simple metal funnel could face the sun with the largest possible surface area.

Then he found a relatively clean wine bottle and carefully placed it below the narrow opening of the aluminum funnel. Finally, the most crucial step was to place a handful of snow on top of the funnel.

After finishing all this, Lu Mingfei stared intently at the simple funnel he had made. Time passed second by second, and just when he was about to doubt whether he had made a mistake.

A crystal-clear drop of water gathered at the edge of the aluminum sheet, trembled for a moment, and then dripped precisely into the bottle below.

It's a success! It's really a success!

Lu Mingfei was so excited that he jumped up from the ground and waved his fist.

"It's a success!"

His cheers immediately attracted those around him who were still shaking the bottle or staring blankly at the sky. Several people gathered around, looking curiously at the strangely shaped aluminum device at Lu Mingfei's feet and the water droplets slowly increasing at the bottom of the bottle.

"Roy, what's this...?" Roy, the rugby player, asked in surprise.

Lu Mingfei suppressed his excitement and explained as clearly as possible, "Use this! An aluminum sheet! Taken from behind the seat! Fold it like this, hold it up to the sun, and put snow on it! The sun will melt the snow, and the water will flow into the bottle!"

As he spoke, he pointed to the sources of the materials and the key points of the production process.

The people around were stunned for a moment, then their eyes lit up with ecstatic joy. They could get relatively clean water without expending precious energy, simply by using sunlight. This was like a godsend.

Without needing to say anything more, people immediately sprang into action, rushing towards the stripped-down seats in search of similar aluminum sheets.

Soon, the sounds of clattering and folding filled the air, and when the first imitator successfully saw the water droplet fall into the bottle, an even louder cheer erupted from the crowd.

"Water! We have a stable water supply now!"

"God help us! We're saved!"

"Lu! You're a genius!"

Several young rugby players even excitedly surrounded Lu Mingfei, rhythmically chanting his name: "Lu! Lu! Lu!"

Lu Mingfei blushed at the sudden praise, scratching his head embarrassedly and waving his hands repeatedly. This was the first time someone had cheered and shouted his name.

Of course, this simple solar-powered snow melting device was not very efficient. Lu Mingfei watched his invention as the sunlight shimmered on the aluminum sheet, melting the snow little by little and gathering it into droplets. It took him two or three hours to finally collect a full bottle of clear, cold water.

However, this is already more efficient and less labor-intensive than any previous method.

He couldn't wait to take the collected water back into the cabin.

"Nono, I got water! Clean water!" Lu Mingfei excitedly handed the water bottle to Nono, his face showing undisguised pride and anticipation.

Nono looked at the bottle full of water with some suspicion.

This kid...where did he get so much water so quickly? Could it be...that he melted the snow in his mouth and then...spit it into the bottle?

The thought of this possibility moved her, but her stomach churned. The thought of actually drinking it was too much of a psychological hurdle.
