Dragon Raja: Lu Mingfei's War Journey
Chapter 10 Food and First Kiss
Just as Lu Mingfei was completely in despair, the voice of rugby captain Marcelo came from inside the plane.
"Everyone, gather!"
Upon hearing this sound, Lu Mingfei turned his head to look inside the cabin. He saw that everyone who was still able to move was approaching Marcelo, who was sitting in a chair with some food in front of him.
Upon seeing the food, Lu Mingfei immediately perked up and scrambled over to Marcelo's side.
"We found some food in the suitcases, but we don't know when the rescue will arrive, so we have to distribute the food and try to eat it for as many days as possible," Marcelo said.
They found three large bottles of wine that Lu Mingfei and his friends had drunk the night before, a bottle of whiskey, a bottle of cherry brandy, and a bottle of mint liqueur in the trunk and the front cockpit.
Eight large chocolate bars, five hard nougat candies, a small bag of shriveled dates and dried plums, a bag of savory biscuits that looked fairly intact, two jars of oily mussels, a jar of salted almonds, and three small jars of jam with different labels: peach jam, apple jam, and blackberry jam.
These supplies were pitifully scarce for the twenty-seven survivors; the only relatively abundant item was cigarettes.
Two rugby players working for a tobacco company knew about the tobacco shortage in Chile, so they brought a large box of Uruguayan cigarettes to Chile to sell and make a profit. Little did they know that it would become an important source of stress relief.
Soon, Marcelo, as the leader, began distributing food to everyone, encouraging the survivors as he did so.
"Please hang in there, everyone! Our rescuers are on their way. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after, we'll be able to leave this hellhole!"
Lu Mingfei also received food from Marcelo: a small piece of chocolate about the size of a thumb wrapped in tin foil, a plastic cap that looked like it had been unscrewed from some deodorant bottle, with a small half-cap of dark red wine sloshing inside, and a pack of unopened Uruguayan cigarettes.
He was so excited holding that small piece of chocolate that his fingers were trembling. It was already noon the day after the plane crash. In other words, he hadn't eaten for a day and a night, and he felt so hungry that he could eat a whole cow.
Lu Mingfei treated it like a rare treasure, carefully peeling off the foil and putting the small piece of dark brown chocolate into his mouth. The bittersweet chocolate melted in his mouth, bringing tears of happiness to his eyes.
He had never thought chocolate tasted so good before; he felt it was the best thing he had ever eaten in the world.
But the next moment, Lu Mingfei almost cried again. How did he end up crying with happiness just from eating a cheap piece of chocolate?
How did his life become so miserable?
Those around Lu Mingfei, seeing the distorted expression on his face—a mixture of crying and laughing—felt that this unfamiliar Eastern man was on the verge of a mental breakdown due to the immense trauma.
Several people subconsciously shifted their positions to the side, creating some distance between themselves and him.
"What a spineless coward... Lu Mingfei..." Lu Mingfei forcefully wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and muttered a curse to himself.
He recalled his aunt's constant nagging and the occasional disdainful glances from his classmates. At this moment, even he had to admit that he was indeed quite useless.
He downed the liquor in the cap in one gulp, then took out a lighter, lit a cigarette, and put it in his mouth. He had also taken the lighter from a corpse.
Although they had lighters to start a fire, there was nothing to burn in the surrounding snow, so the only use of these lighters was to light cigarettes.
However, Lu Mingfei was too lazy to think about these things at this moment. He leaned back in the cabin and began to smoke, enjoying the stimulation brought by nicotine and alcohol.
Although he didn't like smoking or drinking, these things did help him relax a little; he felt he would go crazy sooner or later if he kept his nerves constantly on edge.
After enjoying the sweetness of chocolate and the stimulation of nicotine and alcohol, it's time to get back to work. Today, they need to completely clean out the cabin so it won't be so crowded at night.
The group split into two teams: one team cleaned the cabin, and the other team took care of the wounded. People like Lu Mingfei, who were partially disabled but could still move, went wherever they were needed.
While taking care of Nuonuo, Lu Mingfei also helped move things with the others.
Just as Lu Mingfei was holding Nuonuo's hand and rubbing it in his arms, a faint buzzing sound suddenly came from the sky.
That's the sound of an airplane engine.
Everyone was stunned. Then, everyone who could still move, including Lu Mingfei, suddenly raised their heads as if they had been electrocuted, and rushed out of the cabin in a rush, looking up at the blue sky.
They searched desperately, craning their necks, listening intently, their hearts pounding, hoping to catch a glimpse of a rescue plane, even if it was just a tiny, distant dot.
However, they didn't see the plane until the sound of the engine completely disappeared, but this gave them a boost of confidence.
This proved that rescue teams were looking for them, and even the seriously injured who had been groaning in pain showed a hopeful smile on their pale faces.
However, Lu Mingfei didn't think they could be rescued so easily. He hadn't forgotten the mission that appeared on his retina earlier: either live here for eighty days or find a way to escape.
Does this mean we have to wait eighty days for a rescue attempt...?
Night fell again, and the temperature dropped sharply.
This time, however, they were better prepared. A new wall was built over the damaged area at the tail, and the cabin was much more spacious than before, since there were fewer people and the cargo had been cleared out.
The disturbing, desperate wails and curses from last night have mostly disappeared.
It's not that the pain has lessened, but rather that those who are still alive seem to be forced to accept reality, try to adapt to this hellish environment, and conserve every bit of their strength.
However, the cold of the night remained unchanged, and everyone continued to huddle together for warmth.
Lu Mingfei held Nuonuo tightly in his arms. Just when he thought he could finally get a good night's sleep, he heard a very faint and indistinct voice coming from his arms.
"Water...water..."
Lu Mingfei looked down and saw that Nuonuo was still unconscious, but her chapped lips were opening and closing, uttering a plea as if in a dream.
Hearing Nuonuo's voice, Lu Mingfei was pleasantly surprised, as it proved that Nuonuo might wake up. However, this left him wondering where to find water for her.
Feeding him snow directly? Even he couldn't handle eating snow directly. For a wounded patient like Nono, still suffering from hypothermia, it would definitely cause problems. He suddenly thought of a method, but…
He hesitated as he looked at Nuonuo's face. Nuonuo was still constantly muttering about water, which reminded him of the co-pilot last night. Last night, the co-pilot was not only wailing and begging to be killed, but also pleading for water. However, Lu Mingfei did not have the courage to go over.
Finally, Lu Mingfei gently put Nuonuo down, then went outside the cabin, grabbed a large handful of snow, and stuffed it into his mouth without hesitation.
He was immediately shivering from the cold, the snow pricking his jaws like needles before melting in his mouth.
However, Lu Mingfei did not swallow the melted water. Instead, he held it in his mouth and returned to Nuonuo's side. After hesitating for a moment, he pried open Nuonuo's mouth and pressed his own lips against hers.
This was the only way he could think of in a short time: to melt the snow with his own body heat and then feed it to Nono.
However, he was only feeding him water and didn't intend to take advantage of him. The weather was so cold that even his testicles were almost shrinking, so how could he possibly have any sexual desire?
But the next moment, Lu Mingfei's eyes widened instantly because he felt Nuonuo sucking the water from his mouth.
The tongue is coming...
After Lu Mingfei and Nuonuo separated, he leaned against the cabin wall, feeling a little dizzy, his cheeks flushed, and his heart pounding wildly in his chest.
What the hell... What... what's going on?
He never imagined that his first kiss, which he had preserved for eighteen years, would be given in such a freezing, snowy place, in a desperate situation where life and death were uncertain, in such a way to a girl who was almost a stranger and was still in a coma...
But... Lu Mingfei subconsciously licked his lips, which still seemed to retain a strange feeling, and thought in a chaotic mind, that feeling... seemed... surprisingly not bad?
Everything... suddenly doesn't seem so bad... so hopeless anymore...
