The Wizard of Truth: Starting with Analyzing All Things
Chapter 81 The Silent Diary and the Hunter
As the landing module docked with the "Stargazer," the airtight door slid open, and a pure and familiar energy aura enveloped them, giving the five people who had just returned from the desolate ruins a sense of dazed peace. But the icy, yet subtly pulsating blue crystal in their palms constantly reminded them of the heavy secrets and crises they had brought back.
Verna and Anderson were already waiting outside the docking bay. Seeing the five return safely, especially the crystal in Rowe's hand that emitted the same energy as the fragment, Verna's eyes flashed with barely suppressed excitement, while Elder Anderson's expression became even more solemn.
"Head to the central analysis room immediately! Lina, Annie, you two go to the medical bay for full-body purification and radiation checks. Everyone else, come here directly." Verna spoke rapidly, turning and leaving without allowing any room for argument. The unusual behavior of the Stardust Whale and its possible identity as a "Guardian" made her feel an immense sense of urgency.
Inside the central analysis room, the lighting was adjusted to a soft state suitable for observing the flow of energy. The blue crystal known as the "Observer's Eye" was carefully placed on the central analysis platform. Around the platform, intricate runic lines lit up, connecting to the starship's database. Verna stood at the control station, with Lowe beside her, holding a fragment of his palm close to the crystal to enhance signal resonance. Lilith prepared the recording equipment, while Barton and Anderson stood guard at the door, alert for any anomalies.
"Initiate connection attempt. Star Core, prioritize parsing the energy signature and encryption structure, and assess the risks of brute-force cracking," Verna ordered.
[Command confirmed. Scanning... The target crystal's energy signature matches the 'Star Core Resonator Fragment' with a 99.7% match rate, confirming it as a high-level information carrier of the 'Observer Sequence'. The encryption structure is a 'Soul-Bound Star Pattern Lock,' bound to a specific Protoss soul frequency or high-level Star Speaker authority. The carrier structure has been detected as fragile; forcibly breaking it has a greater than 90% probability of completely destroying the information.] The Star Core's feedback sent a chill down everyone's spines.
"Soul binding..." Lilith frowned. "Does this mean we need to find a living Protoss? Or..." She looked at Verna and Rowe.
Verna looked at Luo Wei: "Your Star Key is a symbol of supreme authority, and this fragment also originates from the creation of the Observer sequence. Try to use your star power to simulate the soul frequency of the 'Observer,' using the key as a medium to gently infiltrate it. This is the only way, but it also carries risks and may trigger unknown defense mechanisms."
Luo Wei nodded without hesitation. He took a deep breath, adjusting himself to his optimal state, and placed his hands lightly above the crystal. The key emblem and fragment in his palms lit up simultaneously, and pure stellar energy flowed slowly into the blue crystal like a gentle stream. He closed his eyes and concentrated, recalling the extremely faint soul fluctuations left by the Protoss corpses he had sensed in the ruins, and tried to adjust the frequency of his own stellar energy to resonate with them.
The process was extremely slow and mentally taxing. The crystal acted like the most precise lock, repelling every trace of foreign energy. Fine beads of sweat appeared on Luo Wei's forehead; his star power was being depleted far faster than expected. Lilith promptly replenished his energy with a high-concentration potion.
Time ticked by, and just as Luo Wei was feeling his strength waning and considering giving up, a very faint "click" sound came from inside the crystal, as if some mechanism had been triggered. Immediately afterward, the blue crystal shone brightly, and a condensed beam of light shot into the air, forming a clearer, though still incomplete, star map, and ancient Protoss script cascading like a waterfall!
[Permission verification passed... Recognized as a successor of the 'Star Speaker' (insufficient permissions, temporary access granted)... Retrieving the final log of the 'Echo Station' (encrypted portion)...]
A calm, but slightly mechanical, Protoss electronic voice rang out in the analysis room.
Everyone's spirits lifted! Success!
The log began to play, no longer just simple text, but a holographic projection interspersed with blurry images and records of energy fluctuations:
Diary Entry 1 (Astrological Calendar 74, 339.01.01):
The image revealed a peaceful starscape, with the "Echo Station" hovering silently in orbit around the pulsar "Echoing Heart," like an exquisite silver spinning top. The logger (in a gentle, rational voice) reported: "Routine monitoring in progress. 'Throat of Annihilation' (Abyssal Rift) activity is stable, at historically low levels. All is normal."
Diary Entry 2 (Astrological Calendar 74, 339.01.01):
An alarm suddenly sounded! The area on the star map representing the "Throat of Annihilation" flashed a blinding red light! The recorder's voice was urgent: "An abnormal high-dimensional energy burst has been detected! The rift activity index has surged! Energy characteristic analysis... confirms a match with the vanguard unit of the 'Corruption Fleet'! The highest alert has been issued! Requesting instructions from the 'Stargazer Council'!"
Diary Entry 3 (Astrological Calendar 74, 339.01.01):
The images became chaotic, filled with explosions and beams of energy. The "Echo Station" was under heavy attack! Huge, abyssal ships, resembling decaying stars, poured forth from the cracks! The recorder's voice was filled with despair: "No response from the council! Defenses have collapsed! Enemy objective confirmed: to seize the 'Stellar Resonance Core' within the station! We cannot allow them to succeed!"
Diary Fragment 4 (the most crucial part, the video is extremely unstable, and the recorder's voice is weak):
"...The core database has been physically destroyed...but the 'truth' must be delivered...We have discovered...fragments of the original 'Starfall Pact'...beneath the encryption layer of the Resonance Core...the contract has been...tampered with! The signatories...are not only the Stargazers and the Abyss...but also...the mark of a third party! A...deeply hidden...rune of order and annihilation!"
On the holographic projection, a tattered, ancient scroll made of starlight appeared. The original contents of the scroll were blurred, but in the signature area, in addition to the star emblem representing the stargazer and the distorted mark representing the abyss, there was an extremely dim, yet chillingly balanced and final composite rune of scales and the Eye of Nothingness!
"It is the power of this rune... that has distorted the essence of the contract... turning the alliance of 'jointly resisting the outer realms'... into... one-way suppression and sealing! The abyss's loss of control... may be related to this!" The recorder's voice was filled with anger and fear.
Log Fragment 5 (Last record, only audio, video is completely black):
"...Initiating the final protocol...The Silent Beacon is activated...I will...carry this fragment...into the Resonance Core...hoping to...hold out until...the next one..." The voice abruptly stopped, leaving only the hissing sound of energy dissipating.
After the logs finished playing, the analysis room fell into a deathly silence.
The amount of information is overwhelming! It not only confirms that the "Starfall Pact" has been tampered with, but also points to a third party hidden behind the scenes! This "Order and Annihilation" rune exudes a power level far beyond our current understanding, and the force it represents is actually one of the culprits that caused the Abyss to go out of control and potentially caused the Stargazer civilization to suffer a severe blow?
"Order and annihilation..." Elder Anderson murmured to himself, his face deathly pale. "This power... I seem to have seen a similar description in a corner of the oldest forbidden scrolls in the Discipline Tower... Legend has it... that the Arbitrators... control the changing of eras and maintain some kind of cold balance? Do they... really exist?"
Even Verna was deeply shocked and lost in thought; clearly, this discovery touched upon some forbidden areas of her ancient memories.
Luo Wei's mind was in turmoil. He had initially thought the enemy was the Abyss, then discovered problems within the Discipline Tower itself, and now a potentially ancient and terrifying mastermind had been unearthed? Just how complex was the truth of this world?
"Star Core, record that rune characteristic, and search the database for similar records!" Verna was the first to come to her senses and gave the order.
[Command confirmed. Rune characteristics recorded. Database comparison in progress... Match rate below 0.001%, only extremely vague related entries exist, insufficient permissions, access denied.] The Star Core's response was disappointing, yet understandable. This third party was hiding far too well.
"Regardless, we've obtained crucial evidence." Lowe suppressed his inner turmoil and said in a deep voice, "The question now is, what's next? Should we continue searching for clues about this 'third party,' or should we use this information to deal with the immediate crisis? For example, the Stardust Whale that might still be nearby, and the Abyss Mark within our souls?"
As if in response to his concerns, at that very moment—
Ugh!
That familiar yet chilling whale song once again pierced through the starship's layers of armor and energy shields without warning, resounding directly in everyone's minds! But this time, the melody of the whale song was no longer mournful or distant, but carried a clear, undeniable warning and a sense of expulsion! At the same time, the starship's alarm system blared mournfully!
[Warning! Approaching ultra-high-energy life form detected! Distance less than 1,000 kilometers! Extremely fast speed! Identification confirmed: Stardust Whale! Energy readings are rapidly increasing! Determined to be... hostile behavior!]
[WARNING! Starship concealment area is under severe interference! Risk of exposure exists!]
"It's found us! And this time it's for real!" Barton roared, his greatsword already in hand.
"It's driving us away! Because we took the 'Observer's Eye'?" Lilith quickly analyzed.
"It's probably not that simple." Verna stared grimly at the main screen, which showed the Stardust Whale approaching at an incredible speed, a suffocating energy storm gathering around its massive body. "It might mistake us for... 'thieves,' or worse, for... a 'third party' involved in the disaster of that year! We must evacuate this star system immediately!"
"Initiate emergency jump! Target: Hidden point on the outskirts of the Chilva continent!" Rowe gave the order without hesitation. Against such a cosmic-level being, confrontation was foolish.
[Emergency jump initiated! Energy core overload operation! Coordinates locked! 10-second countdown!] The star core's response was somewhat urgent.
The starship shuddered violently, its warp engines roaring under overload. Outside the porthole, the massive, nebula-like head of the Stardust Whale was clearly visible. Its gaping maw didn't contain darkness, but rather a forming gravitational singularity radiating destructive energy!
"It's too late! Its attack will disrupt the warp portal!" Elder Anderson exclaimed in horror.
In the nick of time, Luo Weifu, guided by his inner voice, suddenly raised the "Observer's Eye" crystal in his palm high, simultaneously channeling all his stellar power into it, and shouted (amplified through his spiritual power): "We are not the enemy! We are the 'Star Speakers'! We have brought the truth about the 'Echo Station'! Look at this!"
The crystal burst forth with an unprecedented azure light, combining the image fragments in the log about the "third-party runes" with Luo Wei's own pure Star Speaker aura into a powerful stream of information, which shot toward the Stardust Whale!
The Stardust Whale paused noticeably for a moment, a flicker of doubt and... scrutiny flashing in its enormous, galaxy-like eyes. The gravitational singularity forming in its mouth rippled slightly, but did not launch immediately.
It was that moment of hesitation!
[Leap Initiation!]
Om-! ! !
A violent sense of spatial distortion descended once more, violently dragging the "Stargazer" into the hyperspace tunnel! In the final moment of disappearance, Rowe seemed to see that the Stardust Whale did not pursue them, but instead hovered quietly in place, its enormous eyes gazing in the direction they had vanished, revealing an indescribable...complex emotion.
……
When the dizziness of the jump subsided and the starship stabilized in the familiar dark void outside the continent of Chilva, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"We... survived." Lilith slumped into a chair, her face pale.
"It... seemed... not hostile at the end?" Lina said uncertainly, her intuition catching the fleeting change in emotion.
Lowe gripped the slightly warm crystal in his hand, his heart pounding. The Stardust Whale's reaction confirmed its close connection to the Observer Sequence. Was its final hesitation due to acknowledging the "Star Speaker's" identity, or because of the image of the "Third-Party Rune"?
Regardless, they brought back not only the truth, but also a massive mystery concerning the cosmic order. And they, this small, struggling team, had been involuntarily drawn into the center of this vortex spanning millennia.
The road ahead is becoming increasingly unpredictable and dangerous.
