Ancient Wizards: A Little Progress Every Day

Seeing that Dago seemed distracted, old Marico patted him on the shoulder and said, "It's alright, town patrols are usually quite safe, don't worry."

"Alright, let's think about running away after the Darkblood Council invades the town."

Dago's current level of goodwill towards the academy has turned negative, and he's thinking about ways to leave the academy.

Nowadays, when you're under someone's roof, you have no choice but to bow your head.

At noon, after the three of them had lunch, they set off for the Aynor Wizarding Academy.

They entered the academy without any hindrance. It was still the same as before, except that there were many more wandering wizards in tattered gray robes walking on the road.

Dargo led the two directly to the guard post of the academy castle, where Raymond and Viser were already waiting.

Raymond stepped forward first and spoke, "Dag, your previous forest patrol performed very well. I heard from Viser that you worked together to kill quite a few black-robed wizards."

Viser gestured behind him to Dago and the other two to keep quiet, or they would be in trouble.

Dargo naturally understood that they were master and apprentice, so even if he exposed Viser's lie, what could he change in Raymond's mind?

The less trouble, the better.

Dago said calmly, "It's all thanks to the patrol team members. We were lucky enough to kill a few insignificant bastards."

"The academy will reward wizards who have made contributions. The three of you can take my approval slip to the academy's equipment department to select a magical item."

Dago then smiled broadly and said, "Then thank you for the academy's kindness to us."

"Viser has already told you about the town patrol. He recommended the three of you to join. Wizards who contribute to the academy are rewarded; each of you will receive thirteen low-level magic stones per month."

"There are additional rewards for defeating the black-robed wizard. I hope you will unite as one and cooperate for mutual benefit."

After Raymond finished speaking, he went to the walnut desk, took three approval slips, and handed them to the three men. He then left Dago behind and told the others to leave first.

Dago stood respectfully in front of the desk, because Raymond, who was sitting in the chair, was a half-step formal wizard.

Raymond stared at Dago and said slowly, "Dago, you're quite good. You're capable, intelligent, and able to tolerate Viser for so long."

Dargo was intrigued by what he heard; it seemed that Raymond was no ordinary man either.

He replied sincerely, "Thank you for your compliment, Wizard Raymond."

"Viser is the sole heir of the Helam wizard family. His father has been kind to me, and I know his arrogant and conceited nature. However, I still hope you can be lenient with him and take good care of him while you are patrolling the town."

Raymond spoke to Dago in a kind tone.

"The reason I put you two on the same mission is that I hope you can change his personality."

"Understood, Lord Raymond."

Only then did Dargo realize that Viser was actually the young master of a wizarding family, which explained why he hadn't given him a second glance.

Raymond then waved his hand, indicating that he could leave.

Dargo turned and left, closing the door behind him. Raymond kept watching him, making Dargo feel uneasy.

He went outside and saw that old Marico and Serena were still waiting for him, but Viser was nowhere to be seen.

Old Marico and Dago said that Viser had made all the arrangements, and the three of them only needed to meet him at the college gate at seven o'clock in the evening.

Dago pursed his lips. Of all people to ask, this young master had to pick on the three of them. He wondered what kind of tricks he was up to.

Next, they went to the academy's equipment shop to select a wizard's artifact. After discussion, all three of them unanimously decided to choose a wizard's wand.

Wands have two advantages. One is energy focusing. When a wizard uses their mental power to manipulate energy particles, the wand can more quickly concentrate the energy particles at a single point, making the spell's effect more precise.

The three of them then returned to the wizard's inn, beaming with joy.

Before long, nine wizards walked out of the academy and stood side by side under the stone gate, including Viser and Raymond.

After saying this, Raymond turned and went back to the academy, ordering eight academy wizards to come up and lead the patrol.

Viser walked straight toward Dago and his two companions, gesturing for them to follow. He then selected seven more hired wizards from the crowd, and thus they formed a small team.

Viser led them eastward toward the town and said to them, "This time we'll be patrolling the southeastern part of the town."

"Watchtowers and wooden cabins for rest have already been built over there."

"As your captain during this period, I have only one requirement: to obey my commands."

The nine wizards listened quietly. Many of them were meeting for the first time and didn't recognize each other. They walked silently on the snow-white road by the moonlight.

After walking for about several tens of minutes, we arrived at the outskirts of the town, where a ten-meter-high wooden watchtower stood.

Below the watchtower was a small wooden hut of about ten square meters, and from the window you could see a campfire burning inside.

At a glance, large tracts of fallow fields are separated from the town by forests, and the cold wind blows, blowing away a thin layer of snow covering the fields.

Some people in the group couldn't stand the cold and ran inside to warm themselves by the fire. Viser looked rather grim and muttered, "What a bunch of disobedient rats."

Dago's expression darkened upon hearing this, but he didn't say anything.

They then followed the remaining people into the cabin, awaiting Viser's next instructions.

Viser looked at everyone and said directly, "My plan is for the nine of us to be divided into three patrol groups. Two groups will patrol back and forth along both sides of the cabin, while one group will take turns resting."

Upon hearing this, Dago immediately objected, saying bluntly, "And what about you, my captain?"

Viser looked at him displeasedly and said, "I'm in charge of surveillance from the watchtower. Do you have a problem with that?"

"You and old Marico each lead two people to form a group, and Serena will form a group with two other people."

"Begin the operation according to my instructions."

Dago wanted to say something more, but when he saw old Marico shake his head at him, he gave up.

And so their patrol began. Dago led the two young second-level apprentice wizards to the left of the cabin, while old Marico walked to the right.

Then, once you reach a stone monument, head back. It takes about an hour to make one round trip. After two trips, you can take turns resting, forming a mobile team, waiting for rescue, and replenishing your energy.

They didn't finish their mission until 2 a.m., waiting for the next patrol team to hand over duties. Only then could they return to the cabin to gather and disperse, and go home.
