The dream of becoming a Pokémon master
63. Growth
Upon arriving at Oki's lab again, Kyosuke immediately began searching for the information he needed.
Although Professor Oak felt guilty about this, he couldn't skip his daily task, so he could only tell Kyosuke the location and let him operate it himself, while he would carry out the daily feeding work.
Kyosuke sat down at the computer and opened Nidoran's data.
I saw this data yesterday, but I didn't listen carefully when Professor Oak was explaining it. Now I really realize what the professor meant when he said that the information about Pokémon is hidden in it.
Thinking back to how he had secretly mocked Satoshi yesterday, Kyosuke felt even more foolish.
"The body's physical data are all positive, which means it should have reached the limit of evolution long ago, but its behavior is not even half as good as expected, which means it probably has some psychological trauma."
Kyosuke sighed, "It really is because of Mewtwo. After Mewtwo, I didn't immediately notice the change in his mentality. He saw that Chimchar seemed fine at the time, but he didn't realize that every Pokémon is different. He was still a child back then. Normally, he should have improved by beating weaker opponents, but being defeated in the challenge at the Sylveon City Gym and Chimchar's evolution probably triggered him again. Later, it just got worse and worse."
This time, perhaps it really was my fault.
Perhaps he really wasn't suited to be a trainer? Kyosuke began to doubt himself.
Zhong Huo, Wu, Huang'er, and Feng Shuang are all strong because of their own hard work. Even without me, they could become stronger. They think they have talent, but their talent only masks their mediocrity.
Can one overcome all difficulties simply through love for Pokémon? No way. After all, the idea of generating electricity through love only exists in novels and anime.
When Professor Oak finally finished feeding the Pokémon and returned to the lab at noon, he found Kyosuke staring blankly at the computer, not understanding what had happened. He had become completely lost and bewildered after just one morning.
Professor Oak quickly went to Kyosuke's side and patted him on the shoulder: "Kyosuke, are you alright?"
Kyosuke then came to his senses and, noticing Professor Oak beside him, quickly stood up: "Professor, I'm alright."
Professor Oak assumed Kyosuke was overly worried and overreacting, and comforted him, saying, "Maybe it just went out for a walk and will be back soon?"
"I hope so." Kyosuke forced a smile.
In the afternoon, the professor, unusually, did not conduct any research, but instead spent time with Kyosuke searching for clues in the backyard.
Kyosuke arrived in the area where Nidoran and Nidoran were active.
Compared to the crybaby, these Nidorans are still far behind.
"He's a talented kid, but I've held him back," Kyosuke thought to himself.
"Professor," Kyosuke suddenly asked Professor Oak, "Do I lack the talent of a Trainer? Am I not suited for traveling, and should I become a scholar instead?"
Professor Oak was startled and began to wonder if he had gone too far, making a gifted child question his existence.
"Why would you ask that, Kyosuke?" Professor Oki asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
"I haven't caught many Pokémon, nor have I helped my Pokémon grow properly. I haven't been able to do what a trainer should do. My Pokémon, even without me, no matter who leads them, can become stronger on their own. I may have even held them back." Kyosuke's voice was low.
This was the first time Professor Oki had ever seen such a fierce person.
In his eyes, ever since that incident, Kyosuke has always been an optimistic and cheerful child, seemingly incapable of feeling sadness, full of curiosity about any Pokémon, and determined to become a Pokémon Master.
He looks like a completely different person now.
"Kyousuke".
"What's wrong, Professor?" Kyosuke looked up and found Professor Oak looking at him with a serious expression.
"You asked me why so many trainers have many Pokémon with great potential, but they don't train them, right?"
Kyosuke nodded. This question arose from observing the Pokémon in Pallet Town yesterday morning.
"The world is unfair," Professor Oak began with this statement. "There's a theory that catching a Pokémon accelerates its evolution process."
Kyosuke nodded; he knew this too, which was why many Pokémon didn't resist being captured.
"However, not every Pokémon that is caught will evolve quickly. Or rather, not everyone has the trait to evolve a Pokémon. For talented trainers, the only difficulty in evolving a Pokémon is that they may not be able to afford the evolution stones required for special evolutions. But for most people, Pokémon evolved by evolution stones are their only option. And you, by letting them evolve, have already proven yourself."
"But they can evolve even without me. Midfire is a hot-blooded and warlike kid, Mai has been accumulating experience for ten years, and Frostfire, as an Eevee, is even less of an example. And Ogre hasn't shown any signs of evolving in so long, not to mention Crybaby." Kyosuke disagreed with this statement. His Pokémon all had amazing talents and could evolve on their own without him.
"Trainers don't just exist to evolve Pokémon. Kyosuke, have you ever thought about what their lives would be like now without you?" Professor Oak said earnestly.
Kyosuke felt as if his heart had been pierced.
Without himself, Midfire might have encountered another trainer, and everything would have been unknown;
The Crybaby is bullied by various powerful Pokémon inside Viridian Forest; it may grow stronger or die.
Dance lived a life of luxury in the Caterpie's territory, but the group didn't understand her, so she stayed alone and didn't bother to explain herself.
Huang'er may already be in another world;
The frost still endures pain that neither humans nor Pokémon can bear.
If I don't become a trainer and travel, I won't be able to meet them, change them, or save them.
Kyosuke found meaning in traveling as a trainer, beyond becoming a Pokémon Master: to meet more, help more, and save more Pokémon.
There are some things that perhaps only he himself can do.
"Thank you, Doctor," Kyosuke said gratefully.
Without the PhD, I might never have been able to escape this predicament.
"It's alright, it's alright, I'm glad you understand." Professor Oak breathed a sigh of relief.
"Compare~"
Kyosuke suddenly heard Mai's voice.
Looking up, I saw a dance coming from afar.
Have you found it?
"Doctor, I'm off now! Thank you for today!" After thanking the doctor again, Kyosuke quickly ran towards Mai, then jumped onto Mai's back and flew away into the distance.
"Thank me? It was clearly my mistake." Professor Oak smiled wryly.
"But now that I've found it, I can continue my research."
On the other side, Mai carried Kyosuke to the border of Shinshin Town.
Everyone was there, and in the middle was a Nidorino covered in whip marks.
Kyosuke jumped off Mai and went to Nidorino.
"Nido." "I'm sorry."
An apology was issued at the same time.
Kyosuke was a little surprised, but he still smiled and said, "I hope you'll take care of me in the future."
