Tiger, I rejected the iron rice bowl.
Chapter 96 Falling Victim
Not far away, Niu Zhihua, who had finished checking for traps, returned and happened to see this scene.
He stood there for a few seconds and finally understood why the reserve had sent such a seemingly delicate little girl.
The team members were right. Tang Li was indeed the "Tiger Commander." As long as she appeared, even wild Siberian tigers would submit. This "ten thousand tigers submitting" demeanor was something that no one else could achieve.
He walked to the fire, put down what he was carrying, and with a "whoosh," a trap and six tangled wire snares fell out.
Tang Li caught a glimpse and exclaimed in surprise, "There are still so many?"
Niu Zhihua sat down on the rock opposite Wang Yuyu, his eyes fixed on the tiger obediently eating its meat. He said in a serious tone, "Hmm, this area is mainly infested with lassos. It seems those two poachers are determined to capture it alive."
"I've been in this business for so many years, and I've never seen so many traps set up at once in a long time."
Upon hearing this, Tang Li immediately raised her chin proudly, as if showing off her prized possession: "That's right! Our secure jobs are worth a lot now. Those poachers are after live tigers; we can get a good price for them!"
"Roar!" These words instantly struck a nerve with Wang Yuyu. He stopped chewing, raised his head, and growled, his amber eyes filled with displeasure.
He cursed inwardly, "Who the hell cares about this worthless status! I just want to live a peaceful life in my own territory, eat some roe deer and wild boar, and sleep in late—how carefree!"
"Now look what's happened! The territory is riddled with these deadly traps. How am I supposed to hunt with peace of mind now?"
"Even if I'm careful and don't get infected, what if other animals do? Then I'll have less food! I'll be the one who suffers the loss!"
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became, and he started wagging his tail in frustration.
Tang Li thought she had touched a sore spot for Wang Yuyu and upset him, so she quickly squatted down and gently patted his back to comfort him.
"Okay, okay, it's my fault, I won't talk about it anymore!"
"Hurry up and eat the meat, then we'll head back to camp as soon as we're done."
Wang Yu glanced at her, and seeing her sincere tone, his anger subsided considerably. He nodded, lowered his head again, and continued to feast on the "mountain of meat" in front of him.
Half an hour later, Wang Yuyu finished off the remaining half of the roe deer.
He let out a burp, stuck out his tongue to lick his greasy paws, and rubbed his mouth to make sure not a single scrap of meat had fallen before slowly standing up, shaking his round belly, and preparing to follow Tang Li and Niu Zhihua back to the camp.
Niu Zhihua first gathered some snow and carefully extinguished the fire completely. After confirming there wasn't a single ember remaining, he looked at Wang Yuyu and said solemnly:
"Iron rice bowl, lead us back another way, take the animal path you usually take."
"Let's do another round of checks to see if there are any other hidden traps in this area."
Wang Yu nodded, her amber eyes scanning the surroundings. She chose a direction with relatively sparse vegetation and stepped out first.
He planned to circle back to the camp, both for safety and to check on the situation on his own territory.
Tang Li slung her backpack over her shoulder and followed closely behind Wang Yuyu. Holding a metal detector in her hand, she scanned the snow on both sides of the road with her head down. The "beep" sound of the detector occasionally rang out in the woods.
Niu Zhihua walked at the very back, relying on his years of hunting experience to bring up the rear.
Those lasso traps made of nylon rope are hidden very deep and cannot be detected by metal detectors; they can only be identified by the naked eye.
Wang Yuyu didn't walk very fast, her ears twitching alertly every now and then, trying to catch any sounds around her.
He would take a few steps and then look back to make sure Tang Li and Niu Zhihua were following before continuing forward.
Once Tang Li discovers traces of snares or animal traps hidden in the snow, he will immediately squat down and wait for Tang Li to dismantle the traps and confirm that it is safe before he will continue forward.
After walking for about half an hour, Wang Yuyu's face grew increasingly gloomy, and his tail began to wag restlessly.
Along the way, they discovered 13 more traps, all of which were highly targeted lasso traps.
"Those damned poachers!"
He cursed the Zhang brothers in his mind countless times, "How many lousy traps have they buried in my territory? Are they trying to turn my land into a dead end?"
Anger distracted him, and he became less alert.
Suddenly, with a soft "crack," Wang Yuyu's foot slipped, and one of its front paws slammed into an inconspicuous little pit.
He only felt something trip him up, but didn't pay much attention. He tried to pick himself up and keep walking, still thinking about how to "get revenge" on the poachers.
But he didn't notice that a steel wire was wrapped around the edge of the pit, and as he pulled his leg out, the wire had silently wrapped around his ankle.
Tang Li, walking behind him, spotted the gleaming steel wire immediately. Her heart clenched, and she cried out, "A secure job! Don't move! Stop!"
"Huh?" Wang Yuyu was startled by the call and turned around to look at Tang Li in a daze, not understanding why she was suddenly so nervous, and her body even subconsciously took a small step forward.
This one step completely triggered the trap. With a "whoosh," the steel wire snare tightened instantly, binding his foreleg tightly. The cold steel wire instantly embedded itself in the fluffy tiger fur.
The feeling of constriction traveled down her leg bones, and only then did Wang Yu realize that something was wrong.
He looked down and was startled to see the steel wire loop tightly wrapped around his leg. He froze in fright and then let out a low, anxious growl.
He suddenly jumped up, raised his injured front leg, and slammed it against the ground and rubbed it against the tree trunk, desperately trying to shake off the wire snare. His amber eyes were filled with fear and panic.
"A secure job! Don't be afraid! I'm here! Calm down, don't move!"
Tang Li's heart clenched as she watched, and she instinctively wanted to rush forward, but Niu Zhihua grabbed her arm.
Her eyes welled up with tears, and her voice trembled with sobs as she tried to soothe her, "The more you struggle, the tighter the noose will tighten, and it will hurt even more! Trust me, I can get it off for you. Calm down and don't move..."
But at this moment, Wang Yuyu couldn't hear anything; the fear of being trapped overwhelmed everything.
This was the first time he had been entangled in a human trap. The steel wire was making his legs hurt more and more, making him instinctively want to break free. He never even thought of asking Tang Li for help.
He paced anxiously in circles and jumped around, his injured forelegs swinging more and more forcefully, and he roared in pain and anger, his fur standing on end, like a beast out of control.
