Shen Fei, with his keen eye, took the initiative to take the box and led the two of them to the living room.

James had already prepared a cup of hot coffee for each of the three of them.

After finishing his coffee, Smith introduced Shen Fei to Liam, saying, "This is an old friend of mine from Toronto. He's an expert in authenticating ancient paintings and currently works as a consultant for the largest art collection company in Toronto."

"People's time is very precious, so hurry up and take us to see the ancient painting you found."

"Okay, Uncle Smith!"

Shen Fei didn't dare to be careless at all. He led the two of them directly into the bedroom on the second floor and took out the Van Gogh sunflower oil painting that he had prepared beforehand.

Smith and Liam's attention was quickly drawn to it.

He carefully laid the oil painting flat on the desk, then took out a magnifying glass from his suitcase and examined it carefully from top to bottom, finally stopping at the signature at the bottom.

The two people inside the room immediately lowered their breathing, afraid of disturbing the expert.

After a while, the old expert Liam stood to the side muttering to himself, "Impossible! The style and painting style are Van Gogh's, and so is the signature, but I always feel like something is missing."

Smith nervously leaned closer and asked, "Is it a genuine Van Gogh painting?"

Liam shook his head. "It doesn't look like the real thing, nor does it look like a fake."

Shen Fei overheard their discussion from behind and was immediately dumbfounded.

It's neither real nor fake, so is it real or fake?

Liam quickly cleared up his confusion.

The elderly expert took out a stack of picture books from his suitcase, and after unfolding them, he found that there were many photos of sunflowers presented in photographic form.

He compared the photos in the album with the oil paintings on the table one by one and quickly came to a conclusion.

Pointing to a similar photo of sunflowers, he said, "You see, these two oil paintings are almost identical. The one I photographed is the real Van Gogh. As for yours, there's only one possibility: it's a high-quality forgery."

"We're doomed!"

Upon hearing that it was a fake, Shen Fei sighed inwardly.

The plan to get rich failed.

Thinking about it this way, it makes sense. Although there are many historical shipwrecks in Pearl Lake, the Maple Leaf Government has organized people to salvage them for so many years, but in the end, they all gave up. How could there be such a good opportunity to pick up a bargain?

I was clearly blinded by greed and got myself into the money trap.

Now that his dream has been shattered, Shen Fei felt empty inside, standing to one side, restless and uneasy.

Suddenly, Smith nudged Shen Fei with his elbow and asked unhappily, "Liam's asking if you're selling this painting?"

"Sell? Sell what?"

Shen Fei quickly came to his senses.

It's clearly a fake, yet the other party still paid for it?

Is it for collection purposes?

Even so, Shen Fei's mood was only slightly better than before.

How much value can a fake item bought for collection really have? It's lucky if it can sell for tens of thousands of Canadian dollars.

Smith suddenly smiled and held up one finger, saying mysteriously, "He asked you, 'Would you sell this painting for 1000 million Canadian dollars?'"

Shen Fei was startled. "1000 million Canadian dollars?"

This is clearly a fake!

While the two were whispering to each other, the expert, Liam, had already taken a picture of the sunflower painting on the table with his phone and sent it over. A little while later, he received a phone call.

Liam didn't try to hide it from the group and answered the phone in the bedroom, speaking in Italian.

Coincidentally, Shen Fei majored in English in college and took Italian, German and Japanese as electives. He still had some difficulty with writing, but he had no problem with daily communication.

Liam anxiously urged on the phone, "Boss, have you seen the information I sent you? Although it's a fake, the style and brushwork are excellent. It's clear the painter is a highly skilled artist, and it has extremely high collectible value."

"Aren't there quite a few oil tycoons in the Middle East who want to buy Van Gogh's paintings? A genuine Van Gogh painting is worth billions of euros. If things go well, selling this painting for 2000 million euros shouldn't be a problem."

Liam made no attempt to conceal the fact that there were two people inside the house, clearly concluding that no one else in the house understood Italian except for himself.

Unfortunately, he miscalculated.

Who would have thought that a Chinese person in their early twenties could speak Italian?

Shen Fei's eyes flashed, but he pretended not to hear and instead took the initiative to discuss it with Smith next to him.

"Uncle Smith, is this expert reliable?"

When Smith heard the other party speaking Italian, which he couldn't understand, he realized there was another ulterior motive. After thinking for a moment, he replied, "I've known this guy for decades, and he's generally reliable. But business is business, and businessmen like to pursue maximum profits, so we should be careful."

"Don't worry about one thing: if he deliberately lies to you, I will sue him until he loses all his reputation."

Smith puffed out his chest, looking very confident.

Shen Fei had no suspicions.

In North America, lawyers hold a prestigious position and charge high fees, making it unaffordable for most people.

Lawyers in North America typically serve the wealthy and powerful.

If it weren't for his grandfather's connections, Shen Fei wouldn't have been able to afford a top lawyer like Smith. Of course, it's also related to the fact that he's currently retired and doesn't have much to do.

After a while, Liam ended the call.

He carefully put away the fake sunflower oil painting on the desk and then put it into his suitcase, clearly confident that Shen Fei would not refuse his offer of 1000 million Canadian dollars.

"Smith, what's your employer's decision?"

Liam was ostensibly asking Smith a question, but his gaze was fixed on Shen Fei.

Shen Fei hesitated briefly before counter-offering, "1200 million Canadian dollars. I won't sell it for less than that. This is my grandfather's lifelong collection, and I want to continue collecting it for my enjoyment."

"What?"

Liam paused, clearly not expecting this outcome.

Even Smith, who was standing next to him, looked at Shen Fei with a surprised expression.

However, Smith was a calm and collected person, and although he had questions in his mind, this was not the time to explore the answers.

"Young man, you'd better think this through. I'm only offering you 1000 million Canadian dollars because of Smith."

"Besides us, other buyers probably wouldn't even offer 800 million."

Liam looked somewhat displeased.

Shen Fei suddenly replied in Italian: "It's okay. My uncle Smith knows some tycoons in the Middle East. I heard that they like to collect Van Gogh's paintings. Even a fake can sell for 2000 million euros if handled properly."

"I'm not in a hurry at all!"

At this, Liam's entire expression changed.

"Okay, it'll be 12 million Canadian dollars. Let's sign the contract now, and the money will be transferred to your savings account within 1200 hours."
