Baron Cullen

Chapter 124 Vaughn Out of Control

The two said no more and quickened their pace.

However, just as they rounded the corner and arrived outside the warband's encampment, the sight before them caused Karen's heart to stop!

The main gate of the camp was smashed to pieces, with splinters of wood and metal scattered all over the ground.

At that moment, he almost instinctively activated the mysterious runes deep within his right eye.

From this peculiar perspective, besides the horrific scene before him, he caught sight of an extremely dense black mist.

The mist extended from the warband's encampment and swept straight toward the south gate of the city.

What is that?

Without thinking, he rushed into the camp.

The next moment, a scene resembling hell unfolded before their eyes…

The training ground was a mess, with weapon racks overturned and various weapons scattered all over the ground, some even stained with dark red blood.

More than a dozen members of the battle group were lying on the ground.

Some people were still groaning in pain, while others had already stopped moving.

Blood pooled in small streams on the stone floor, and the air was thick with the stench of blood.

Several combat team members who were still able to move were treating the wounded.

Their movements were frantic, their faces filled with fear and disbelief.

Some people used torn strips of cloth to bandage the injured, some tried to drag the unconscious person to a safe place, and others knelt beside their companion who had stopped breathing, holding their heads and crying softly.

"What happened?" Karen grabbed a passing member, her voice strained. "What on earth happened here?"

The member's face was deathly pale, and his eyes were bloodshot.

He recognized Karen, but it took him a moment to react. He stammered, "The commander... the commander has gone mad!"

Why is this happening?

"I...I don't know. Just now...there was a huge commotion from the medical room, and then the leader...rushed out of there!" The member was somewhat incoherent, clearly terrified by what had just happened. "His...the leader's appearance has changed!"

His fingernails became long and sharp, his face grew a lot of black hair, and even his eyes were red!

He would pounce on anyone he saw, and we tried to stop him, but... we couldn't stop him at all.

Captain Olsen was sent flying by his slap, crashing into the wall and still hasn't woken up...

Deputy Commander Lamont tried to subdue him, but was also injured…

Karen released her grip, her face filled with disbelief.

Commander Vaughn has turned into a werewolf?

How is this possible?!

Didn't he work with Lamont and the other two to build a barrier inside Vaughn's body?

Even if those barriers couldn't last a day, it shouldn't have happened this quickly.

Karen's mind was in complete disarray, so she simply stopped thinking.

He ran quickly toward the medical room.

Serena followed closely behind him, carrying the sacred artifact.

When she saw the devastation at the war zone's base, the gentle smile on her face vanished, replaced by a solemn expression.

Since leaving the capital, she had never witnessed such a bloody and cruel scene.

The scene here was even more horrific than the hunting incidents she had participated in when she was training in other places!

She didn't speak, but silently began to check on the wounded.

Seeing that she was still breathing, he immediately knelt down, his hands glowing with golden light, and cast a divine spell to heal her.

On the other side, when Karen arrived at the medical room, she found that the door had been completely blown off and was stuck diagonally in the wall of the corridor.

The room was a complete mess.

The bed was torn to pieces, the medicine cabinet was overturned, and various bottles and jars were broken all over the floor.

The medicine mixed with blood flowed on the ground, emitting a foul smell.

Lamont leaned against the corner of the wall, his right arm twisted unnaturally, clearly broken.

His face was pale, and his chest armor had been torn open, revealing a deep claw mark on his exposed skin!

The wound was a bloody mess, looking incredibly gruesome.

But he was still awake, and when he saw Karen come in, his eyes, which were almost closed, suddenly lit up.

"Ka...Karen!" His voice was weak, but his spirits had recovered somewhat. "You...got the holy artifact?"

"Yes, I got it." Karen walked over quickly, nodded hurriedly, and began to examine Lamont's injuries. "Vice-Commander, these injuries need to be treated quickly..."

"No, don't worry about me." Lamont interrupted him, pointing towards the door with his still-functioning left hand. "The commander... we have to stop him. He's... he's no longer human."

Karen recalled the horrific scene she had just witnessed at the gates of the warband's stronghold, and her expression couldn't help but change.

Thinking of this, he asked, "Why did the commander suddenly become like this? What happened after I left?"

"I...I don't know." Lamont shook his head, his voice full of pain. "After you left, Olsen and I stayed outside the room."

Not long after, the commander, who had been unconscious, suddenly... struggled to sit up, looking like he was in great pain.

We tried to calm him down, but the next moment his body began to undergo astonishing changes... and then he lost control.

We couldn't stop him... Olson was slapped away, I barely managed to hold him off for a bit, and then this happened..."

Lamont's tone was full of guilt, as if he blamed himself for Vaughn's current state.

Suddenly, he remembered something and quickly asked, "Brothers outside... how's the situation?"

Karen was taken aback, then sighed and said, "Seven dead, more than a dozen seriously injured..."

He saw Lamont close his eyes in pain.

Clearly, the other party was feeling extremely uncomfortable at that moment.

He watched helplessly as his respected commander turned into a monster, severely wounding and even killing his former comrades-in-arms, while he was powerless to do anything about it.

This sense of powerlessness and self-blame is enough to crush a person.

"Vice Commander, this isn't your fault," Karen comforted her. "It's that damned curse, it's that damned caster's fault!"

"Deputy Commander, what you need most right now is to receive treatment..."

"It's alright, this injury won't kill me." Lamont opened his eyes, his gaze hardening. "We need to catch up with the captain first."

In his current state, if he were to rush into a crowded area, it would be an unimaginable disaster!

Upon hearing this, Karen suddenly spoke up: "Don't worry, the commander probably didn't go to the main city, but went outside the city."

"How did you know?" Lamont was somewhat surprised, but quickly recovered. "You...saw it?"

The "seeing" he was referring to was naturally the talent for keen perception of extraordinary elements that Karen had mentioned before.

Karen nodded without offering further explanation.

Lamont took a deep breath and said, "In that case, we should find him as soon as possible and try to suppress the curse with the power of the sacred artifact before he completely loses control."

If it works out, things will be much easier to handle afterwards. I will make him personally go and apologize to the families of the fallen brothers one by one!

If it doesn't work...

He stopped there, but his meaning was clear.

Having killed so many brothers and completely turned into a heretic, there is no way he can gain the forgiveness of the people.

Karen nodded, but her gaze remained fixed on the gruesome wound on the other man's chest.

"Stop looking, you won't die!"

Lamont gritted his teeth and tried to stand up by supporting himself with his left hand, but failed twice.

His fractured right arm caused him to lose his balance, and the persistent, excruciating pain from the wound on his chest also made him unable to exert any strength.

"I'll do it."

At that moment, Serena walked in.
