Dude, my main account is Chaos God?

Chapter 6: Normal and Out of Place

"What I'm trying to say is," Ye Ren shook his head, "that for those high and mighty gods, there may not be any distinction between good and evil, or between justice and wickedness."

"They are just making judgments based on our insignificant human moral standards. In their eyes, we are probably just like those ants, just... fun."

He paused for a moment, giving Lao Wei time to process what he had said, before continuing:

"Let me give you another example. A male ant prays to a human, saying that he has fallen deeply in love with another beautiful queen ant and hopes that the omnipotent god can help him win her heart."

"It firmly believes that the gods are omnipotent, but the question is, how could humans possibly know how to make a female ant fall in love with a male ant?"

"Humans cannot understand ants' views on love and pheromones, but humans have a simpler and more direct way of understanding them."

Ye Ren recalled the information he had seen online before.

"That is, take the praying male ant and its beloved queen ant out separately, put them aside, and then... pour a pot of boiling water directly on them, wiping out the entire ant colony. In this way, only the praying male ant and the queen ant are left. You see, the result is achieved, isn't it? It successfully got together with its beloved ant forever."

Old Wei's expression changed slightly for a moment. He seemed to have thought of something, and spoke in a somewhat hoarse voice:

"You mean... the gods have distorted the true meaning of our prayers?"

"No, it's not a distortion." Ye Ren shook his head. "It's a fundamental difference in cognition. Just as we can't understand the thinking of ants, even gods may not be able to understand our emotions and desires."

"Moreover, to them, humans are just a pastime, a toy to pass the time. Even if humans don't believe in gods, the gods won't lose anything."

"Just like how it has no impact on humans if they stop observing the ants."

Old Wei's face darkened, and he fell into a long silence.

The dim streetlights cast long shadows of the two people.

Oddly shaped sidewalks pass by from time to time, making all sorts of strange noises.

But Lao Wei turned a deaf ear, completely immersed in the shock brought about by Ye Ren's subversive remarks.

After a long while, he finally raised his head, looking at Ye Ren with a complicated expression:

"What you're saying... is all just your own speculation, isn't it?"

Ye Ren shrugged noncommittally.

He can't very well say that his real name is the god himself, and that all this information is just dug up from his own memories, can he?

Old Wei took a deep breath, seemingly trying to dispel the gloom in his heart, and continued:

"Even if what you say makes sense, judging the good and evil of gods by our human moral standards is indeed meaningless. However, gods such as the God of Order, the God of Life, and the God of Nature can indeed be called good gods."

"In the early stages of the Great Cataclysm, if it weren't for the protection of these righteous gods, humanity would have been wiped out in the first wave of natural disasters."

"Oh?" Ye Ren raised an eyebrow. "Then what kinds of evil gods are there?"

As Old Wei led Ye Ren through the intricate alleyways, he glanced at him with an expression as if he were an idiot, and replied in surprise:

"These are common sense, how could you not know them? Which remote mountain village did you come from?"

Ye Ren shrugged innocently again.

Helpless, Lao Wei had no choice but to continue explaining:

"As for evil gods, there are only a few major ones. Those who like to self-harm worship the god of suffering."

"Those who constantly change their own form are believers of the flesh and blood, while the girls who serve customers on the side are believers of the goddess of pleasure."

"Those who preach and spread distorted knowledge everywhere are the followers of the Lord in Yellow, and those voyeurs, the followers of the Thousand Eyes Watcher... Of course, although they are called evil gods, they also protect non-humans."

"It gave those who had nowhere else a way to survive. At least in our City of Order, as long as they don't cause trouble, most of these followers of evil gods are still relatively well-behaved."

As they were talking, Lao Wei led Ye Ren to a dilapidated residential building.

Although it's called a home, everything here exudes a sense of simplicity and dilapidation.

Each floor of this building has a distinct character because it is a gathering place for believers of different gods.

For example, on the floor below Old Wei's house, the entire stairwell and walls were covered with a thick layer of sticky fungus that exuded a damp smell. The fungus was still wriggling slightly and emitting a faint fluorescent glow.

"The people living downstairs are followers of the Goddess of Nature," Old Wei explained expressionlessly. "He himself has become completely fungal, turning into clumps of fungi that cling to the walls, surviving by absorbing organic matter."

Ye Ren: "..."

Following Lao Wei upstairs, we opened the door and were greeted by a musty smell.

The room contained almost no unnecessary items: a bed, a table, and a chair; the furnishings were extremely simple.

Old Wei walked to a dilapidated cabinet and took out two boxes of brown solid matter packaged in simple plastic bags, the raw materials of which were not visible.

He tore open a box himself, stuffed a large mouthful into his mouth without batting an eye, then handed the other box to Ye Ren, saying indistinctly:

"Eat up, it's on you."

Ye Ren took the box of rations in astonishment. It looked like some kind of compressed biscuit, but the texture was unusually tough and it had a faint fishy smell.

He couldn't tell exactly what it was made of.

Old Wei seemed to notice his surprise and hesitation, and a cold smile appeared on his lips:

"Never tasted anything like this before, have you? This is meat cut from the bodies of the giants, followers of the Titans, dried and pressed into chunks."

"This stuff tastes much better than the protein bars made from cockroaches and earthworms in factories."

Ye Ren looked troubled and asked hesitantly, "Uncle, do you have any normal food?"

Upon hearing this, Lao Wei abruptly stopped chewing.

He seemed lost in distant memories, his eyes becoming somewhat vacant, and his voice much hoarse.

"Normal food... if you mean the rice, vegetables, and real meat from before the Cataclysm, those are long gone..."

"After the cataclysm, all the animals and plants in the world underwent mutations."

He paused, then added:

"Of course, if you have money, you can go to the restaurants in the inner city. The chefs there, who worship the god of gluttony, can make some good dishes using all sorts of strange and unusual ingredients."

"But I can't get used to those things," Old Wei said, his face showing disgust.

"What 'bursting eyeballs,' 'braised human penis,' 'spicy kidneys'... "

With each dish name Old Wei uttered, Ye Ren's expression grew increasingly grim.
