It's just a toy, why would you care if it breaks?

Chapter 16: Holding the Heartbroken Boy in His Arms

"You don't have many years left to live?" Wei Xun suddenly looked up, his eyes sharp. "What do you mean?"

"I just did a blood test on him, and his blood contained residues of multiple illegal drugs."

Dr. Zhao took out a lab report and handed it to Wei Xun.

"These drugs are specially made by the club to make children docile and obedient, and to enhance their physical sensitivity to satisfy customers' perverse needs."

"But these drugs have severe side effects. Long-term use can seriously damage internal organs and lead to organ failure," Dr. Zhao said in a heavy tone.

"My senior once said that most of these 'toys' in the club don't live past their twenties. They may look normal and healthy now, but as they get older, their bodies will deteriorate rapidly, and they will eventually die in pain."

"Some members will request the club to perform euthanasia on them in advance to avoid making them 'unsightly'."

Wei Xun's hand holding the test results trembled slightly.

In other words, the boy named Nan Yan only had a few years left to live.

"Is there no way to detoxify?" Wei Xun's voice trembled.

"It's very difficult," Dr. Zhao shook his head. "These drugs have a very complex composition, made from a mixture of multiple prohibited substances. Moreover, he's been taking them for too long; the drugs have penetrated deep into his bone marrow, causing irreversible damage to his organs."

The consultation room fell into a deathly silence, with only the ticking of the wall clock sounding particularly jarring.

Wei Xun leaned against the wall, closed his eyes, and the image of Nan Yan kept appearing in his mind.

He always thought Nan Yan was a troublemaker, but he never expected that behind this troublemaker lay so much pain and despair.

"Mr. Wei, I understand how you feel right now, but you really need to think this through."

Dr. Zhao's voice rang out again: "Seeking justice for that boy means going against the entire 'Thorn Rose Club,' against the powerful, mysterious force behind it. You will definitely pay an unimaginable price."

"...Moreover, with current medical technology, there's nothing we can do. He...won't live for many more years."

Wei Xun opened his eyes, his gaze now calm.

He looked at the door of the clinic. Outside, Nan Yan was still waiting obediently, unaware that her fate had already been decided.

"I understand, Dr. Zhao." Wei Xun's voice was low. "Thank you for speaking so frankly with me. As for the chip, let's postpone the surgery for now and think of another solution."

He couldn't just give up on Nan Yan like that.

"Mr. Wei, if you feel sorry for that child, then let him have a few years of peaceful life. There's really nothing else you can do," Dr. Zhao said.

"Thank you." Wei Xun nodded.

The two opened the door to the consultation room, and Nan Yan immediately stood up from the bench and looked at Wei Xun.

"Sir, are you finished talking?" Nan Yan asked softly.

"Hmm." Wei Xun walked over and patted his head. "It's nothing serious. Dr. Zhao said you're very healthy."

He didn't tell Nan Yan the truth; he didn't want this boy, who had just begun to feel a little warmth, to fall into despair again.

Nan Yan nodded, a relieved smile on her face: "That's good, thank you sir, thank you Dr. Zhao."

Looking at his pure smile, Dr. Zhao felt a pang of sadness, but managed a weak smile: "You're welcome, young man. Be happy and take good care of yourself."

Then, Wei Xun took Nan Yan and left the hospital.

Back in the car, Nan Yan was still wrapped in Wei Xun's coat, leaning back in her seat, her eyes looking somewhat tired.

The examination had taken a toll on him, and coupled with his anxiety, all he wanted to do now was get a good night's sleep.

Wei Xun looked at his tired appearance and didn't say anything, but just told the driver to drive slower.

The carriage was quiet, and Nan Yan's breathing gradually became even as she fell asleep without realizing it.

He was sleeping soundly, but his brows were slightly furrowed, as if he were having a bad dream.

Wei Xun reached out and gently smoothed Nan Yan's furrowed brows.

As her fingertips touched his smooth skin, the warm sensation brought a sense of comfort to Nan Yan, her brows relaxed, and the corners of her mouth even turned up slightly.

……

When the car arrived at the Platinum Hotel, Nan Yan was still fast asleep.

Wei Xun nudged his shoulder: "Wake up, we're here."

Nan Yan let out a soft moan, without opening her eyes, and instead snuggled closer to him, instinctively resting her head against his neck.

His arm unconsciously wrapped around Wei Xun's arm, his eyelashes fluttering gently under his eyelids, as he slept with exceptional dependence.

"Troublemaker," Wei Xun muttered under his breath, but there was no impatience in his voice.

He raised his hand and carefully pried open Nan Yan's fingers that were wrapped around his arm, moving so gently that he was afraid of waking her.

Nan Yan's fingers were slender and her fingertips were soft. When she opened them, they curled up slightly, like a frightened kitten.

Wei Xun bent down and picked Nan Yan up in his arms.

The boy's body was very light, and his soft body pressed against his chest. Through the thin fabric, one could clearly feel his warm skin and steady heartbeat.

The suit jacket wrapped around him slipped down, revealing a thin T-shirt underneath. Wei Xun freed one hand to pick it up and put it back on him, covering his bare arm.

As he entered the hotel lobby, many staff members and guests cast curious glances his way, but Wei Xun paid no attention and headed straight for the elevator.

Nan Yan in his arms seemed to sense the movement outside. She frowned slightly, buried her head deeper into his chest, and brushed her cheek against his shirt, leaving a faint blush.

Back in the presidential suite, Wei Xun went straight to the second bedroom and gently placed Nan Yan on the soft bed.

He was about to straighten up when Nan Yan's leg unconsciously hooked around his wrist, and she murmured indistinctly, "Don't...don't go..."

Wei Xun paused, looking down at him.

Nan Yan closed her eyes and frowned.

He hesitated for a moment, then raised his hand and gently patted Nan Yan's back to comfort him, "I won't leave, you go to sleep."

Nan Yan seemed to understand, and her tense body gradually relaxed.

Wei Xun squatted down and began to take off Nan Yan's shoes.

The boy's ankles were slender with fair skin, and the scabs from the previous abrasions had scabbed over, making them appear particularly fragile under the light.

When Wei Xun's fingers touched his ankle, Nan Yan's body trembled violently, and his toes curled up involuntarily, as if stimulated by something.

His skin was indeed incredibly sensitive; it reacted so strongly to just a light touch.

A complex emotion swept through Wei Xun's mind, and his movements became even gentler.

He slowly took off Nan Yan's shoes, revealing her small, delicate feet.

The toes are rounded, and the nails are neatly trimmed.

Then, he reached out to take Nan Yan's coat, and his hand accidentally touched Nan Yan's chest.

Nan Yan shuddered again, her chest heaving slightly, but she still did not wake up.

Wei Xun's fingertips paused on his chest, where he could feel the warm skin beneath the fabric and the faint heartbeat.

His Adam's apple bobbed, and he quickly withdrew his hand.

Then, he carefully took off Nan Yan's T-shirt.

The T-shirt was pulled up, revealing a slender waist with a smooth waistline, carrying the unique naivety of a young man.

Nan Yan let out a soft whimper, as if she couldn't bear the touch.

Wei Xun moved even more gently, slowly pulling the T-shirt off Nan Yan's head, revealing her smooth back and thin chest.

The boy was thin, with his ribs faintly visible. His skin was as delicate as fine porcelain, with scattered bruises and shallow marks, like a broken painting, both fragile and alluring.

Wei Xun looked at the body exposed to him without any defenses, and his throat tightened.

He quickly picked up the blanket next to him and gently covered Nan Yan with it, covering up her scars and youthful curves.

After doing all this, he stood up, gently closed the door, and turned to walk into the master bedroom.

As soon as the door closed, the gentleness on Wei Xun's face vanished.

He walked to the window, took out his phone, and made the first call.

"Hey, Brother Chen, it's me, Wei Xun."
