Chapter 193 Successful Transaction
The governor looked at the list in his hand, his eyes brimming with satisfaction.
Just as he was about to turn the page, the other half of his arm moved.
Before he could get angry, Andrea stepped forward and helped him turn the page.
The governor glanced at Andrea, his trust in her growing even stronger.
He couldn't be more satisfied with such a capable, courageous, and sensible subordinate.
With a click, the governor closed the document.
"You did a great job, I'm very satisfied."
"You flatter me, Governor." Andrea nodded modestly.
The governor suddenly remembered something, looked up at Andrea, and asked, "Those people didn't cause any trouble?"
Andrea's expression turned serious, and she seemed to think for a moment before answering.
"They didn't cause any trouble. Most of the women I chose had husbands and families, and I promised them many benefits so that their families could live a better life."
"And—um~" Andrea's tone turned somber, her lips pressed tightly together, as if she was mindful of something and didn't continue.
The governor frowned. "Go on."
"Alright," Andrea sighed, "and I also gave them an agreement to exempt them from conscription."
"Recruiting soldiers?"
The governor mumbled those two words without asking aloud, but Andrea knew he was waiting for an explanation.
"Among these women, there was one who had no husband or family, perhaps they were all dead. She only had one son, who was sixteen years old and had asthma."
"She said she could give up anything as long as her son wasn't drafted and could be taken care of and survive in Woodbury."
Andrea told the truth.
"Ah, I see." The governor understood. It seemed that Andrea still had some kindness in her heart, just like Milton.
In the governor's view, any flaws meant that there was leverage to control the governor.
There are always some fools who are willing to sacrifice their lives to save others.
The governor smiled sarcastically to himself, but said on the surface, "Since you strongly suggest it, then I agree."
"And since you've already made the arrangements, let's send them over as soon as possible."
I can't wait any longer.
The governor leaned forward, revealing a sense of urgency.
Andrea knew what was going on and quickly nodded in agreement.
The governor got into the car without a second thought, paying no attention to the woman he had used as a bargaining chip behind him; his mind was filled with thoughts of the prison.
He was clutching a map tightly in his hand. On the map was a small skull, and next to it was the word "prison".
That place was none other than the hideout of the governor's long-desired enemy.
Caesar, with his hands behind his back, glanced at the women standing beside him, who looked like quails.
They looked timidly at the soldiers around them who were deliberately dressed as ruffians, and occasionally stole glances at Caesar.
Caesar was very handsome, exuding masculine vigor and possessing great charm.
Compared to Moore next to him, he looked like a hoodlum.
Daryl, who smelled terrible, never bothered to take a bath.
Only Caesar looked truly different.
When Caesar looks directly at them, they turn their faces away.
Caesar was taken aback, not understanding what they were doing, and he had no interest in explaining to them.
Once Andrea arrives, everything will be explained quickly.
"Bring them in, give them food and drinks, and teach them the rules."
Caesar gave the order to Morales.
Morales nodded and led the women into the tent.
Daryl also left the encampment area, disappearing into the woods on his motorcycle.
Until nightfall, the stars hung high in the sky.
Daryl had just returned, with someone on his motorcycle, Andrea.
As soon as Andrea got out of the car, she frowned and complained, "My God, Daryl, do you never take a bath?"
"No wonder Carol always complains about you, your smell is too strong."
"Don't worry, he won't smell bad soon." Caesar emerged from the tent at some point, chuckling and teasing, "Carol said she'll give Daryl a shower with a hose when she gets back."
"Hahaha~" Andrea laughed out loud at the thought of Daryl being swept away by the water jets.
"Long time no see, Caesar."
Andrea opened her arms and hugged Caesar.
"It's been a long time, Andrea."
Releasing his grip, Caesar looked Andrea up and down with satisfaction. "You look much more mature."
Knowing that Caesar wanted to tease her about the stupid things she had done in the past, Andrea raised her hand to stop him: "Oops, don't say it."
"Alright, alright, let's go, let's go. I specially slaughtered a sheep in Huangshi to bring you out, it smells delicious."
"Why not a cow? You're not being sincere, boss. I risked my life for Huangshi."
"A cow? A cow is that big, can you finish eating it?"
The simple dinner in the tent suddenly became more lively with Andrea's arrival. After Andrea explained, the women completely let down their guard, accepted everything, and wholeheartedly enjoyed the food and wine.
After the banquet, everyone became very close.
The brothers on night watch didn't drink alcohol; after eating their fill, they returned to their posts.
Andrea also has to leave.
She is now the governor's right-hand woman, and if they go looking for her the next day and find she has disappeared, things will be in big trouble.
Daryl still gave it to her.
"Is Amy happy every day?" Andrea only had Amy as family, and she couldn't help but ask before leaving.
Caesar nodded. "She's very happy now. Her job as a secretary isn't busy, and her happiest moments are figuring out how to cook and knit."
"Knitting clothes?" Andrea looked at Caesar in surprise.
She remembered that Amy couldn't knit.
"Yes, she doesn't know how to knit. She wants to make clothes for her future children in advance, otherwise she'll be anxious when it's too late."
"However, as she knitted, she became a bit obsessed. She knitted a lot, and she also knitted a lot for you."
"Oh, really? She still misses me, her older sister, quite a bit." Andrea's lips curled up, her tone tinged with a hint of excitement.
The two didn't talk about the governor or the war that followed; they only talked about their families.
Andrea got on Daryl's motorcycle, her disdain undisguised.
"Please, Dixon, please take a shower when you get back."
"Can you shut up?" Daryl said impatiently.
"Oh, really?" Andrea pouted. "Guess what? I can't shut up."
Amidst their bickering, the motorcycle started and disappeared into the night with them.
Caesar stood quietly in the moonlight, the noise that had drifted past him fading into the distance.
"Let's go, let's eat some more."
Moore slumped into a camping chair, stuffing a large piece of meat into his mouth, his mouth dripping with oil.
Caesar glanced at him. "Your brother went too."
"
"So what? He wouldn't get hurt over something so trivial."
