The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 172 Judith
Chapter 172 Judith
Black Pine Valley, Yellowstone town.
After a battle and resolving his inner conflict, Guillermo was overjoyed and treated his team to a meal at a tavern.
Inside the tavern, the atmosphere was lively. Guillermo, drunk, stood on the table with his glass in hand and started singing at the top of his lungs.
He was swaying unsteadily, and his voice was awful.
Several team members supported him, worried that he might accidentally fall over.
Glenn and Maggie, the young couple, huddled together, whispering to each other, gazing at each other with such tender affection that their eyes were practically drooling.
After drinking a few glasses of wine, Caesar went up to one of the members of Guillermo's squad, patted him on the shoulder, and gave him some instructions:
'
Don't drink too much, and remember to get Aji home safely.
"Okay, boss."
"Okay, I'm going now. Bye!"
Caesar waved to Glenn and the others, then walked out of the tavern and let out a breath.
After standing still for a moment, Caesar looked back.
Through the tavern's glass, several bright candles burned, and the crowd laughed, sang, and drank.
Caesar smiled faintly.
Isn't that the meaning behind his creation of Yellowstone? To provide a safe haven for the homeless in the apocalypse.
I took long strides and walked towards home, without riding a horse or taking a car, just on foot.
After walking for a while, Caesar entered the heart of the town.
Looking up, I realized I had walked into the hospital area.
Before Caesar could turn around, a voice called out to him.
"Caesar!"
Caesar turned his head and saw Rick.
Rick was wearing a jacket and jeans, and his beard was clean-shaven, making him look much the same as when Caesar first saw him.
Caesar smiled. "What are you doing here?"
Rick walked over and shook the large bag he was carrying, revealing that it contained some baby supplies.
"Lori gave birth, and I went home to prepare things."
Rick spoke with a kind, fatherly expression on his face.
Caesar pursed his lips. "Lori—is she alright?"
"Lori's fine, she's just a little thin and had a C-section and gave birth to a girl." Rick said, half-laughing and half-crying.
"Carl named his sister Judith after his elementary school teacher."
Is she still called Judith?
Caesar chuckled and patted Rick on the shoulder. "It's a nice name, but you're going to have a lot more to carry."
Rick shook his head, seemingly still in a daze of having a child. "I love Lori, and I love the child. So what if the burden is heavier?"
"Um"
Caesar thought for a moment, but still didn't ask Judith about her situation.
After all, not only Rick, but even Lori herself didn't know whose child Judith was.
Moreover, asking such a question so soon after a child's birth is extremely offensive.
The two stood outside the hospital in silence for a while.
Rick suddenly spoke up: "Caesar, with your attention span, you must have noticed that something was off about Lori and Sean, right?"
Caesar remained calm and did not give Rick any perfunctory answers; he simply nodded to indicate that he already knew.
Rick nodded as well, his tone somewhat downcast. "I know about what happened between them, and I know Lori loves me very much, but we can't go back to the way things were."
"But this child is innocent, I want to raise this child—"
The more Rick spoke, the lower his voice became.
If Caesar hadn't had such good hearing, he might not have been able to hear what came next.
Caesar looked down and saw Rick looking completely bewildered.
Although he pretends to be strong in front of Lori and the child, he is also a human being, and he will break down when faced with a betraying wife and a child born to an unknown father.
Men don't need a lot of sentimental advice; just being there for each other is enough.
Caesar didn't say anything, but simply stayed with Rick as he processed his emotions.
Gradually, Rick straightened up, his complexion looked much better, and his overall demeanor improved.
"Thank you, Caesar."
Caesar waved his hand. "Rick, I'll only tell you one thing: whoever raises the child is the child's father."
"So, since you've made up your mind, stick to it."
Rick paused for a moment, then smiled with relief and nodded emphatically, "Of course."
"Alright, you can go now. I'm going home too."
After saying goodbye to Rick, Caesar took a few steps forward, then paused and turned back.
Rick.
"!"
Rick turned around.
"Come with me on a mission tomorrow, I'll give you some more responsibility."
"Oh, by the way, I've given your daughter a nickname: 'Little Arrogant Girl,' what do you think?"
When Rick first heard about the additional burden, he knew Caesar intended to promote him. Before he could even feel happy, he heard his daughter's nickname.
Rick turned his head away and couldn't help but burst into laughter twice.
"Okay, let's call her Little Arrogant Girl! That name is so cool."
After saying that, Caesar continued walking towards home.
"Little Rascal" is the nickname Daryl gave Judith, but Daryl's relationship with Rick's family isn't as close anymore.
With fewer shared experiences and less contact, the relationship naturally faded.
This is also a drawback of growing power; with more people, feelings tend to fade.
Walking on the asphalt road, Caesar returned to the stone house where he had left the light on for himself.
Enjoying Amy's services, Caesar took a hot bath.
Steam rose and mist filled the air as Amy sat behind Caesar, vigorously rubbing his back.
"Have you seen Andrea?" Amy asked casually.
"I didn't see her, but Daryl said she was quite happy, at least much happier than in the valley."
Caesar answered honestly.
"Yes, as long as she's happy." Amy didn't press Andrea about her condition; she was content to know that Andrea was safe and sound.
Caesar reached back and grabbed Amy's hand. "Don't worry, we'll be closing in soon. Andrea will be back in no time."
Amy nodded without saying a word, but a blush crept onto her fair, smooth skin.
Not only her face, but even the area behind her ears was completely red, and that redness became even more intense.
Amy bit her lower lip, her body tensing, and complained softly, "Okay~"
"Stop causing trouble~"
"Hey—uh—the water'll get cold soon, you'll catch a cold."
"It's alright!" Caesar's Adam's apple bobbed, his voice slightly hoarse. "We'll be out in a minute."
"Ah!" Amy exclaimed as Caesar lifted her out of the bathtub.
Today is destined to be a sleepless battle.
The following day, Caesar left the valley with his personal squad, accompanied by Rick.
Rick shifted uncomfortably, as if his bottom was about to give way.
Caesar chuckled. "What's wrong? Do you have a needle in your ass?"
Rick chuckled, his smile dispelling any awkwardness. "You're the boss of Yellowstone. There are more and more people in Yellowstone, and getting along with them will be easier—"
"Yes, I feel more restrained than before."
