The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy

Chapter 104 The Deal is Made

The vaccine news was like a shot of adrenaline for Hershel, making his already rosy cheeks even redder.

Caesar pushed Morales to Herschel and then walked out of the house.

When Maggie saw Caesar walk out, she paused for a moment and looked towards the reception room, where she saw Herschel tugging at Morales and asking him something.

His enthusiastic manner reminded Maggie of how Herschel pursued her stepmother.

But now, Maggie glanced at the barn.

The barn's red exterior gives it a cold and gloomy feel.

Caesar walked toward the two, while Glenn was still holding onto Maggie, and the two looked very intimate as they were pulling and tugging at each other.

Intending to tease, Caesar deliberately said, "Oi, you two hit it off so quickly?"

Glenn subconsciously looked up and met Maggie's gaze.

His deep, dark green eyes, like a green sea, possessed a captivating allure.

Glenn was immediately stunned.

Maggie was also stunned for a moment. After looking for a while, her gaze fell on Glenn's eyes and then on Glenn's lips.

Glenn seemed to sense something as well, and secretly swallowed.

At such close range, Maggie naturally noticed Glenn's subtle movements, and a slight smile appeared on her lips.

Just then, a large hand grabbed Glenn's shoulder and pulled him back a step.

Caesar lowered his head and whispered, "Maggie's dad's still in the back house. He has a gun. Do you want to see him rush out and shoot you?"

After saying that, Caesar nodded to Maggie as if nothing had happened and walked out.

Glenn, feeling guilty, glanced back at Hershel in the drawing room, thinking he had done it very discreetly.

Hershel was still talking to Morales and didn't even glance in their direction.

Glenn breathed a sigh of relief.

"Glenn, your mission is complete. You don't need to stop Maggie anymore."

A voice came from afar as Caesar walked toward the stables.

Glenn then looked at Maggie and said, "I'm sorry about earlier."

After saying that, Glenn awkwardly walked away to his squad members.

Maggie watched Glenn's figure and gently brushed the ends of her hair aside.

As Glenn walked over, Rick teased, "Hey, you're back so soon."

"I thought you were going to spend the whole night with her."

"Ha ha ha ha……"

Glenn's face instantly turned bright red. A large portion of the group were married, and they could easily tease Glenn for not having much dating experience.

Once their interest waned, they returned to a state of alert.

Jimmy walked over to Glenn and whispered, "Glenn, are you dating her?"

Glenn glanced at Jimmy in surprise: "Not yet. This is our first meeting."

"Oh, oh." Jimmy nodded in realization. "I heard from Lloyd that a lot of barrel-wrapping cowgirls would... you could have them that very night if they took a liking to you."

Jimmy said, gesturing with his hands.

Glenn reacted quickly, pressing the button and glancing around at the other team members. Luckily, no one saw it.

If anyone sees this, they'll definitely make fun of it again.

"You haven't had much experience with dating either?" Glenn asked in a low voice. Although he wasn't very experienced, he could tell that Jimmy was also a greenhorn.

Jimmy nodded.

Seeing this, Glenn smiled, put his arm around Jimmy's shoulder, and began to persuade him.

……

Beth, Patricia, and the others came out of the house early on.

Patricia, along with Beth and Maggie, diligently served tea and water to everyone.

When Maggie poured water for Glenn, she deliberately winked, which made Glenn's heart skip a beat.

As evening approached, Caesar led his men away.

The agreement was made for Hershel to bring the seeds and necessary supplies to Black Pine Valley the following day.

Black Pine Valley is not far from Green Farm. Herschel has been there a few times and knows some things about it.

Caesar's actions suggest he's trying to unite the entire Black Pine Valley into one force. So, how many men does Caesar have under his command?

Upon closer reflection, Hershel couldn't help but feel a little frightened.

After saying goodbye to Caesar and the others, Herschel's family began to eat dinner.

The lighting was soft, and everyone at the table was eating in silence.

Hershel sat in the head seat. He finished chewing his food, wiped his mouth, and rubbed his hands together.

"Tomorrow, it'll just be Otis and me going to Black Pine Valley."

"I want to go too," Maggie suddenly said.

Hershel glanced at Maggie, knowing it was likely because of the Asian boy, and said coldly, "No."

Maggie seemed to have been prepared. She looked directly at Hershel with a resolute gaze: "Right now, only you and Otis are truly strong fighters on the farm. If Otis leaves, who will protect the farm?"

Hershel turned his head and could clearly see the unyielding look in Maggie's eyes.

Otis's fat face trembled slightly; he sensed the atmosphere at the table was becoming tense.

Jimmy, who couldn't understand the situation, raised his hand high, his youthful face full of an "I can do it" expression.

"I can protect the farm."

"Shut up." Maggie turned her head and glared at Jimmy like a knife. "Your marksmanship is terrible, not even as good as mine."

Jimmy's high spirits vanished instantly; his shoulders slumped, and he withdrew his hand.

Beth pursed her lips, carefully reached under the table to shake Jimmy's hand, and conveyed encouragement with her eyes.

Jimmy chuckled to himself, his disappointment vanishing.

Maggie looked at Hershel, awaiting his decision.

Hershel crossed her hands in front of her and said after a while, "Okay, but you have to be careful tomorrow. You can't be as unruly as you were today, pulling and tugging at a boy like that."

Seeing that Hershel had agreed, Maggie was overjoyed, but her face remained impassive.

Dinner ended quickly.

The sky above the farm was like ink spreading out, with the moon hanging high, illuminating the grassland brightly.

Hershel slowly walked to the edge of the barn and stood there staring at it for a long while.

A gust of wind blew by, and the chains on the main gate of the barn rattled and clanged.

Then, the knocking from inside the door grew louder.

The door began to shake, and several blue hands reached out from the gap between the two doors.

The chains were taut, the door wouldn't open, and the zombies inside could only keep pounding on it.

Hershel took a deep breath, waking from his reverie, tears streaming down his face.

He casually wiped his cheeks and climbed up the wooden ladder next to the barn to the second floor.

There is a small platform on the second floor, on which some hay is piled up.

Hershel plopped down on the hay and looked down at the first floor of the barn.

The first floor was pitch black, with very little light entering, making it as dark as a black hole.

Hershel hesitated for a moment before beginning to express his longing for his wife, stepson, and others.

His voice was soft, lacking his usual harshness, only the recollection of the past in old age, and the regret for the irreversible past.

Outside the door, Maggie leaned against the barn wall, covering her mouth and sobbing.
