The Walking Dead: Starting as a Cowboy
Chapter 102 Trading
Hershel looked at the cold-faced man in front of him, knowing he had no choice but to nod.
Morales led Hershel to the lead car, opened the door, and said, "Please!"
Hershel looked inside and saw a tall Asian man with a slight smile on his face sitting in the back seat.
"Hello there."
Caesar extended his hand and shook hands with Herschel.
After Herschel got into the car, Caesar stepped forward and said, "Morales, we can go now."
The convoy started.
Herschel glanced at Caesar, and finally couldn't help but ask, "I'd like to know, what brings you to my farm?"
Caesar turned to look at Herschel, a half-smile playing on his lips, and asked, "What do you think one would come to a farm for?"
"Food?" Hershel guessed.
Caesar neither agreed nor disagreed, but nodded.
Hershel's heart sank to the bottom, and his brows furrowed.
It's not surprising; coming to the farm to steal food sounds perfectly normal.
But how much food would they leave for themselves?
What if the remaining food is not enough to last until the next harvest?
At that time, would I have to take my family out to find food?
The more Hershel thought about it, the more worried he became, and the heavier his heart felt.
Caesar glanced at Herschel's face; it was incredibly dark. Caesar secretly curled the corners of his mouth into a slight smile.
The "open window effect" states that when someone initially asks to have the roof lifted, it is more likely to succeed if they then ask to have a window opened than if they ask directly.
Caesar didn't know if this stubborn old man would agree to make a deal with them, so he decided to scare him by robbing him first.
The armored vehicle that Caesar was riding in was parked in the open space in front of the house, and several other armored vehicles followed and stopped around it, as did the pickup truck behind it.
The entire convoy stopped in a circle.
In this way, no matter which direction a bullet comes from, it can be partially blocked by the vehicle body.
Caesar patted Herschel on the shoulder and said softly, "It's time to get off, my friend."
Hershel snapped out of his daze, his forehead covered in sweat, and then got out of the car.
Perhaps it was due to his age, or perhaps it was due to excessive thinking and a rush of blood to his head, but Hershel staggered as he got out of the car.
"dad!"
Seeing Herschel stagger, Maggie rushed towards him.
Herschel was standing next to Caesar, and the combatants raised their guns, aiming them at Maggie, trying to stop her actions.
Maggie stopped when she saw a barrage of gun barrels pointed at her.
Caesar waved his hand. "Let her come over."
Caesar released his grip on Hershel, and Maggie immediately stepped forward to support him, asking with concern, "Father, are you alright?"
Hershel smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm fine."
Hershel glanced at the robber disguised as a human and forced a smile, inviting him, "Sir, let's go inside and talk."
Caesar nodded with a smile, only to see Maggie glaring at him from the side.
Maggie could certainly tell that something was wrong with her father, and it was definitely related to the man in front of her.
Caesar had no interest in arguing with Maggie, so he turned and called out, "Glen!"
Glenn stepped out from the crowd, sporting a neat and short haircut. He looked mature and composed, and becoming the captain had brought about a significant change in his demeanor.
Maggie looked at Glenn as he walked over, her eyes lingering on him for several seconds.
Glenn was the same, except he hid it better, trying his best not to let his personal emotions affect his work during work hours.
Caesar smiled at the two of them, then said to Glenn, "She's in your hands now."
Although Caesar's smile was somewhat strange, Glenn understood that Caesar wanted the girl not to affect the cooperation.
This collaboration is very important for the town.
Glenn realized that he had a heavy burden on his shoulders.
Hershel had no objection to this and led the way into the house.
Caesar followed, with Morales and T standing beside him. Morales waved his hand, and the team members filed into the house to keep watch.
Maggie stared at Hershel walking away, paused for a moment, and then hurriedly tried to follow him.
Glenn lunged forward and stood in front of Maggie, who, caught off guard, crashed into Glenn's bulletproof vest.
Running headfirst into a bulletproof steel plate is no easy feat.
Maggie's forehead instantly turned red. She covered her forehead, hissed, and stomped her feet in pain.
Glenn instinctively reached out, wanting to help touch the injury, but then realized it wasn't appropriate and could only stand there helplessly.
After Maggie calmed down a bit, she glared angrily at Glenn.
Maggie was very beautiful, with light green pupils as clear and bright as emeralds. Glenn was a little stunned as he looked at her.
Maggie noticed Glenn's strange expression, and with a wicked grin, she stepped on Glenn's foot.
"ah--"
Glenn, caught off guard, clutched his foot, his face flushed red, and he stared at Maggie with a stiff neck.
Seeing Glenn's miserable state, Maggie sullenly tried to enter the house.
On the small corridor connecting the house entrance, two soldiers, equally armed, stood on either side, coldly watching Maggie.
Maggie was very brave, but not strong enough. She hadn't taken two steps forward before Glenn grabbed her and put his arm around her.
She hugged her waist and walked away into the distance.
The two playfully bickered for a while, but Maggie always maintained a safe distance from the house.
Daryl, a blade of grass dangling from his mouth, his breath bitter, frowned as he looked at the two of them. "Are you dating?"
"It seems they all fell ill at the same time."
Inside the house, in the living room.
Hershel sat in the head seat, looking at Caesar on the sofa to the side.
Hershel sat somewhat awkwardly. His weapons had been removed from his body. He glanced at the coffee table, where the parts of his weapons were laid out.
That's right, a pistol and a shotgun were disassembled into parts, and even the bullets in the magazines were removed one by one.
Caesar sat relaxed, as if this were his territory. "My name is Caesar, and we come from Yellowstone."
"Hershel." Hershel nodded and introduced himself, "This is my family's farm, passed down through generations. I will never let the ranch be lost in my hands."
Caesar paid no heed to Herschel's subtle demonstration.
The weak are weak; you can't make yourself seem weak just by raising your voice.
They could easily destroy Green Farm if Caesar wanted to.
But Caesar didn't need a farm at all; what he needed was the Herschel family, who were skilled in farming.
"You just said you came for food," Hershel asked, looking up.
Caesar nodded, and Morales came out of the kitchen with a pot of tea. He poured a cup for Caesar and another for Herschel.
Caesar picked up the cup and blew on the tea on the surface: "Yes."
