Daily News: Insect Girls' Heavy Dependence
Chapter 125 Potatoes
Richard watched the strange reactions of the group of noblemen and ladies. He was truly speechless; how could these people have such a thought process?
Not only was Richard speechless, but Yekaterin was also speechless... The younger generation of nobles in the Kingdom of Kiel were truly rotten!
Although the older generation wasn't all that great either...
Only Rhine covered his mouth and laughed:
"I've already told you they can't change, why bother going to all that trouble?"
Richard didn't reply, but silently sped up the scene.
At the foot of Fortress No. 13.
A group of thin, lightly dressed auxiliary soldiers were wielding axes and clearing the bushes in front of the castle.
They severely hindered the knights' charge, provided hiding places for insects, and the felled wood could be carried back to make firewood for warmth.
"Hey, you tender-skinned little thieves, be good and cut down trees here. Don't even think about slacking off. If you don't cut down enough trees, you won't get any dinner tonight."
Several soldiers dropped a basket of black axes and turned back into the castle.
With no soldiers supervising them, the other auxiliary soldiers just went about their tasks diligently, and no one paid any attention to them.
The nobles huddled together again, whispering amongst themselves:
"Damn it... these are barbarians, definitely not our ancestors! We must get out of here!"
"They don't seem to be supervising at all. Look at those peasants, they're just busy doing their own work."
After a brief discussion, the group decided to flee and return to the civilized world inside the giant wall.
"We need to be careful; we're still within the archers' range."
Cassandra looked up at the soldiers standing guard on the city wall.
"Hmm...we need to be careful and choose to go through the woods so the knights can't catch up."
A group of people pretended to cut down trees while secretly moving away into the distance.
The soldiers on the city wall watched this scene. Even a fool could see what these guys were planning to do, given their childish actions.
But they didn't do anything, and even joked and made bets.
Just as they had moved to a point beyond the estimated range of the arrows, a shout rang out:
"Run!!!"
Several daring boys ran wildly in the direction away from the castle.
The auxiliary soldiers smiled helplessly.
Just a minute later, those young masters who had fled for their lives returned at twice the speed they had fled.
They screamed in despair:
"Insects! So many insects! Ahhhhh... Were there really this many insect beasts five hundred years ago!?"
Richard burst into laughter at the sight. Not many bugs? Are you kidding me? This is simulating a revival season from five hundred years ago!
According to Yekaterin's clues, the Northern Academy 500 years ago was no different from the insect swarm.
It took 500 years of hunting by Papal knights to gradually reduce the number of insect beasts.
Returning to the storyline.
The auxiliary soldiers smiled. All they saw were the dead insect remains. If they saw living insects, they would be so scared they would wet their pants.
Cassandra understood as she listened to the news the boys brought back.
Why weren't the soldiers afraid of them escaping? It turns out that there were terrifying insects and beasts all around them.
They're completely devastated! They can only stay and chop wood, since they don't know how to get back to their own time.
How could a group of pampered teenagers possibly do any work?
They just lazily dawdle in the woods. Every now and then they whisper to each other, discussing what to do next, how to get back to their time.
They had no intention of properly cutting down trees; after a whole day, they hadn't felled a single one.
"Dinner's ready! Dinner's ready!"
A soldier ran out of the castle, banging on an iron bucket.
All the auxiliary soldiers immediately formed a circle and began sharing the cooked potatoes. Everyone was eating them with smiles on their faces, discussing something amongst themselves.
"Hehe, once the giant wall is built, we'll have huge tracts of land to farm, and we won't have to eat potatoes every day anymore. I'll eat cornmeal three times a day and meat every few days!"
"Come on, Project Wall will last thirty years. By the time it's finished, you'll be long dead. You'll still be eating corn then? The corn will eat you!"
"Hey, that's alright, as long as our kids are fed..."
The dirty auxiliary soldier held a black potato, but his eyes shone with bright hope.
These young noblemen looked at the dirty potatoes with nothing but disdain.
"Is this even food for humans?"
Cassandra's appetite wasn't so picky anymore; she picked up a potato and started eating it, then handed it to someone else.
"Don't complain, you need to eat your fill to have the energy to escape, and it's not that bad."
A noblewoman picked up a dark, black potato, took a bite with a look of disgust, and immediately spat it out.
"Ugh! What is this? Is this some kind of high-level stuff from the priest? It tastes awful!"
He then casually tossed it on the ground.
An elderly auxiliary soldier with a machete at his waist picked up a potato and handed it to him, urging, "Eat some, kid. This is our only meal a day. If you miss it, you'll have to go hungry until tomorrow."
"Get out, get out! If you want to eat, eat it yourselves. I'm not going to eat this garbage." The noble lady waved her hand and knocked the food away again.
"Oh...you!" The old auxiliary soldier felt a pang of heartache.
At this moment, standing on the distant city wall, the usually kind-hearted Knight Jehovah finally couldn't stand it any longer.
He charged in furiously and punched the noblewoman to the ground.
"Do you fucking know how many civilians had to sacrifice themselves to get this food here? Do you fucking know how many civilians went hungry every day just to donate a single potato to the front lines?!"
Kassan Isa looked at the ancestor Jehovah, who was always portrayed as kind in the family stories, and was surprised to see him with such an expression...
She seemed to understand something.
He picked up the black potato that had fallen to the ground and helped the still-crying noblewoman to her feet.
"Eat up, it's alright now, don't cry."
……
In a specially simulated director's room.
Richard handed Yekaterin a black potato.
The duchess rolled her eyes at him... but still took the potato, peeled it, and ate it silently.
The rough, musty smell almost made Yekalin vomit. But she endured the discomfort and swallowed it down.
She ate half of it, and then... shoved the other half right into Richard's mouth!
Richard didn't seem to mind; he smacked his lips a few times and ate it all.
Rhine watched the two young lovers flirting and teasing each other.
He glanced at a clock that displayed the outside time, and spoke softly:
"Fifteen minutes have passed! In my opinion, only that girl named Cassandra deserves to survive... The others haven't improved much."
Richard chuckled twice; in the dream world, he was the master.
Adjusting the time ratio with the outside world is so easy.
If it weren't for the immense energy required to maintain the fourth-tier dream insect transformation, Richard himself would rather live in his own dream world forever!
