Twenty years of cold chain

Chapter 84 Refrigeration Exhibition

After preliminary business and travel preparations, in early October, the Bailen team boarded a flight to Madrid. The trip consisted of nearly forty people, divided into two groups: one was the marketing team responsible for product promotion and trade negotiations, and the other was the Dawn R&D team.

In contrast, the marketing team had a tight schedule and heavy workload, with extremely strict daily schedules. The Dawn team, on the other hand, mainly focused on observation and had no specific technical meetings to attend. They only had city-specific events to attend and no fixed schedule, giving them a high degree of freedom. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to consider this trip a perk for the R&D team.

Leading the delegation was Zhao Xugang, the general manager of Baileng and also the group's technical leader. Zhao Xugang had known Hu Shutong for a long time, and Hu Shutong had been quite active in the industry recently. The South Suburb Park sent a letter of commendation to Mingda and also wrote a news article that was published in the newspaper, a long article about the new generation of technical youth.

The two chatted in the airport lounge, and Zhao Xugang introduced several members of his team to Hu Shutong. Their conversation focused on broad, long-term topics rather than detailed information. However, Zhao Xugang expressed his interest in any potential future collaborations.

What Zhao Xugang saw was far more than just Hu Shutong. Pang Shiyou's outstanding student, the numerous industry discussions he could find, and his dealings with several large corporations all made Zhao Xugang feel that the industry story of the person in front of him was about to get to the main point.

His energy is something to look forward to.

Dusk in Madrid.

The October weather was neither too hot nor too cold. Hu Shutong and Luan Pingxin strolled hand in hand through Plaza Mayor. The vibrant sunset over Madrid was like a maiden emerging from a Spanish drum, dazzling and beautiful. Wandering through the small restaurants lining the streets, stepping into a tavern adorned with brown dials, a sweet, almost cloying aroma filled the air. Ordering a bottle of sherry—what Shakespeare called "bottled Spanish sunshine"—along with a plate of Galician octopus, was a sure way to experience Madrid.

However, even the most vibrant and passionate Madrid could not melt the "coldness" in Hu Shutong's heart. He was the one with the least task among them, but he cherished this opportunity more than anyone else.

After a brief respite, the refrigeration exhibition began.

The booths of European and American countries were magnificent, covering tens of thousands of square meters. Major industry giants from South Korea and Japan all made their appearances, with electronic technology, refrigeration technology, and cutting-edge intelligence all concentrated in two halls. The world-class booth design and lighting created a particularly high-end and sophisticated atmosphere.

This exhibition also features a "New Products Gallery" for the first time, showcasing over fifty selected products from thousands. Environmentally friendly refrigerants, low-noise heat pumps, air conditioning products meeting European Class A standards, and brand-new designs made with new materials combine to create a beautiful display.

As Hu Shutong walked through the exhibition, he was completely taken aback by the stark contrast between the scene before him and his expectations. The refrigeration exhibition was not a stage for products with advantages in production capacity and efficiency; the focus was on energy conservation and environmental protection. We are still in the previous stage, while the most dazzling stars internationally are demonstrating how to achieve green practices.

Therefore, we not only need to accelerate our pace, but also change our mindset. Who says these two things can't be done simultaneously? For many years, across all sectors, the problems we've solved are things that these developed countries can't even comprehend. One day, we will not only integrate, but we will also become advocates.

The presence of over 10,000 professional visitors and industry professionals daily created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the venue. People from various countries chatted enthusiastically about the products, and there were many instances of placing orders on the spot, which made the Chinese booth seem somewhat deserted.

Our country's companies have a total of 1,000 square meters of exhibition space, but because many of them are exhibiting for the first time, there are obvious differences in visual appeal and brand image. These are lessons learned; besides the products themselves, we also need additional packaging for our products.

When they left the venue in the evening, Hu Shutong was in a low mood, as was Luan Pingxin.

We are not the main characters here, and this feeling is very impactful. It is not the numbers in a data table, nor the product comparison pictures on the screen.

Baileng was also exhibiting for the first time, and Luan Pingxin's experience was even more profound. They seemed to have turned the refrigeration exhibition into a museum, with even a parameter board illuminated by light and shadow, making it look exceptionally superior to many people who didn't know much about the products.

Why aren't you saying anything?

Hu Shutong's silence throughout the journey made Luan Pingxin feel very uneasy. If a person doesn't speak, it's either because he's thinking about something or he's unhappy. At this moment, it seems most likely to be the latter. "You came here on your own, so don't blame me."

"What are you thinking?" Hu Shutong quickly explained.

"To be honest, I don't even want to see this exhibition anymore. It just tells you how powerful the cooling capacity is and how much energy efficiency has increased, but ultimately we still need to continue exploring the underlying technology. It's just showing off; what's so great about it? You'll see one day!"

Seeing Luan Pingxin's indignant expression, Hu Shutong couldn't help but laugh. But don't mistake this anger for her current outburst; she's a ruthless person. Enough talk, let's see how she performs.

"You really don't want to see the exhibition?"

"I've seen everything I needed to see. Tomorrow's the last day, so I have nothing to miss. Sigh, do you have any plans for the rest of the trip?"

As she spoke, Luan Pingxin tugged at Hu Shutong's sleeve, her eyes sparkling with intelligence.

"Let me think about it."

"How about we go to the estate? A few colleagues called me, saying the scenery is absolutely amazing!"

"We'll go see it if you want."

Luan Pingxin suddenly narrowed her eyes. "Why do I feel like you've had a place you've wanted to go for a long time?"

"Hmm... how about we go check out Vigo?"

"Great! Let's set off tonight!"

"Aren't you going to ask what they're going there for?"

"Since you want to go, what else is there to ask?"

I've loved cold chain logistics for twenty years.
