Reborn in Tokyo: From Heiress to Global Tycoon
Chapter 497 Now Let's Start Spending Money Seriously
It was nearly noon when the three of them finally came out of PARCO.
They bought far more things that morning than they had initially expected.
Fujita had already come over twice to pick up his shopping bags, and now the latest batch was being loaded onto the car by security personnel. Several bags were stacked together, almost covering half of one of the men's arms.
Satsuki stood by and watched for a while, and a sense of satisfaction arose in her heart after completing the task.
"We must have spent quite a bit today, right?"
"There must be quite a lot."
Ayako answered quickly, glancing back at the cars.
"We've already sent back so many things."
Reiko nodded as well.
"By the standards of an average college student shopping, today's spending can no longer be considered normal."
Satsuki was even more satisfied, and even felt that the billion-yen goal her father had set for her that morning didn't seem so difficult after all.
She turned to look at Chizuru.
Chizuru had been organizing the receipts for her the whole way. Upon hearing this, she took out a few folded records from her small bag and checked them again.
"Approximately 5.6 million yen."
Satsuki's smile vanished instantly.
She had initially thought she would at least hear a larger number, but after a couple of seconds of hesitation, she asked somewhat uncertainly:
"...Five million six hundred thousand?"
"Yes, Miss."
Chizuru glanced at the record in her hand again.
"That's roughly the number right now."
Satsuki didn't speak.
She slowly turned her head, looked at the car parked not far away, and then at the shopping bags that Fujita hadn't yet delivered.
They clearly visited so many stores that morning.
I bought a ton of clothes, a lot of shoes, and bags, accessories, perfumes, and all sorts of other little things—I can't even remember the exact number.
The total was only a little over five million?
Reiko quickly calculated the remaining numbers as well.
"In other words, it's a matter of being one billion..."
She looked at Satsuki, a slight smile already creeping onto her lips.
"We are still short by more than 994 million."
Satsuki's sense of accomplishment vanished completely in an instant.
She stood there for a while, pursing her lips, and her mind drifted back to her father's attitude that morning, which had been one of "a billion dollars, I can just buy whatever I want." The more she thought about it, the more embarrassed she felt.
Ordinary shopping doesn't seem to solve this problem.
At this rate, even if the three of them shopped from morning till closing time, they probably wouldn't find even a fraction of a billion.
"Father..."
Satsuki murmured a sentence.
Ayako didn't hear clearly and turned her head to look at her.
"What's wrong?"
Satsuki squinted and looked at the Seibu Department Store not far ahead.
"He definitely did it on purpose."
In the morning, they said, "You're not allowed to go home until you've spent all the money," but I didn't take it to heart at the time.
In retrospect, it seems that her father probably knew from the beginning that she would encounter this situation.
Thinking about this, Satsuki slowly began to feel a little resentful.
Didn't they say she doesn't know how to spend money?
We really should let Father see this today.
Besides being good at making money, Gaoyue is also very good at spending it.
"Let's go."
She started walking again.
Reiko followed.
"Where to?"
Satsuki raised her chin, gesturing towards the Seibu Department Store in front of her.
"Go over there."
She paused for a moment, then the corners of her mouth turned up again.
"Now I'll spend it wisely."
……
Once inside Seibu Department Store, the speed at which I spent money noticeably increased.
In PARCO, clothes and accessories cost only tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of yen. But here, the same items you pick up and look at quickly jump to hundreds of thousands or millions of yen.
Satsuki was quite satisfied with this; at least she finally felt like she was seriously completing a task.
She stopped calculating how much she spent on each item.
If I see clothes I like, I try them on; if they fit, I keep them. If a watch looks good on my wrist, I ask the shop assistant to wrap it up.
At first, Ayako and Reiko would offer their opinions on her behalf, but they gradually realized that once Satsuki had her eye on something, their opinions were basically limited to whether it looked good or not.
As she passed a jewelry store, Satsuki was drawn to a necklace in the window.
The main stone is not extravagant, and the design is also very simple.
She asked the shop assistant to take it out for her to try on, then stood in front of the mirror, brushed her long hair that had fallen to her chest to one side, and turned her body slightly to look at herself.
The diamond landed just below the collarbone.
"How is it?"
Ayako moved a little closer.
"It looks nice, and it's not too formal."
Reiko also glanced at it a few times.
"Yes, this suits you."
Satsuki herself was clearly satisfied. She looked at herself in the mirror from a different angle and then reached out to undo her necklace.
"Then this one will do."
The shop assistant took the necklace and quickly quoted the price.
Eighteen million yen.
Satsuki simply nodded, instructing her to wrap it up.
Reiko stood by and watched the whole thing, and only smiled after the shop assistant left:
"You're getting more and more skilled."
"Of course."
Satsuki tidied her hair, which had been messed up by the necklace, in a good mood.
"My learning ability is one of my strengths."
I was talking about spending money.
"Does spending money not count as a skill? There aren't many people as good at spending money as I am."
Satsuki retorted confidently.
Ayako couldn't help but laugh when she heard that.
They wandered around Seibu for about twenty minutes before someone in the store finally recognized Satsuki.
At first, it was just a staff member on one of the floors who thought she looked familiar. Today, Satsuki was dressed completely differently from her usual public appearances, and she was accompanied by two girls of similar age, making it hard for anyone to immediately associate her with the Saionji heir who frequently appears in financial news.
It was the security personnel scattered nearby who truly confirmed Seibu's identity.
Not long after, a manager of the store came over with his men.
The other party didn't make much of a commotion. As they approached and were about to greet her, Satsuki already guessed their purpose.
No special arrangements are needed today.
She gestured to Ayako and Reiko beside her.
"I came out to have fun with my friends, so please don't clear the place out, otherwise it won't be fun."
The other party had obviously heard about Ms. Saionji's personality before, and quickly understood. They left only the foreign business department staff to handle the coordination and did not continue to bother her.
Satsuki initially thought there was no need to keep this person around, but after visiting two more places, she found it quite convenient.
Newly purchased items no longer need to be handed over to Fujita and his team to be transported back and forth to the vehicle; Seibu can deliver them all to the main residence. Sizes and styles that are not currently available in the store can also be directly sourced from other places.
Later on, if Satsuki took a fancy to something, she only needed to leave it behind, and the rest would be taken care of.
Ayako quickly adapted to this method, and even handed over the bags she had initially insisted on carrying herself.
Satsuki glanced at her.
"Didn't you just say that shopping is only fun when you're carrying your own stuff?"
"That was just now."
Ayako moved her wrists, which had become a little sore from being constricted.
People can grow and mature.
Satsuki was amused by her and didn't bother to expose her.
With the foreign business department staff accompanying us, the subsequent shopping trip became significantly easier.
Satsuki browsed through high-end clothing, watches, and jewelry, and then picked out a few kimonos and home furnishings. Occasionally, when she came across something she liked, she would decide to keep it without even listening to the prepared introduction.
By the afternoon, when the day's spending was tallied again, the figures finally looked much more reasonable.
"A little over two hundred million yen."
After hearing this, Satsuki nodded subconsciously.
"Two hundred million..."
This number is much more pleasing to the eye than the more than five million from this morning.
But after a quick calculation, her brows, which had just relaxed, furrowed again.
"We're still 800 million short."
Ayako was drinking something when she heard this and looked up at her.
"Satsuki-san, do you know how annoying what you just said sounded?"
Satsuki didn't react for a moment.
"What's so annoying about it?"
Reiko, standing beside her, smiled and explained on her behalf:
"Because a normal person probably wouldn't worry about 'only spending 200 million yen' today."
Satsuki then realized where the problem lay and couldn't help but laugh.
"But Father's mission is to reach ten billion."
As she spoke, she glanced at the expense summary in her hand again.
Continuing to buy things like this is certainly not a bad thing, but if it's just to fill up the remaining money by specifically targeting the most expensive items, then it doesn't seem to make much sense.
As Satsuki walked forward, she pondered what else she really wanted to buy today.
When her gaze inadvertently fell on the traffic outside, she suddenly remembered the garage from that morning.
He had originally been excited to drive a sports car, but after looking at everything from the Century and Presidential models to the Porsche that was even older than himself, he still couldn't find one he really wanted to drive.
Thinking of this, Satsuki slowed her pace.
She was thinking that she would definitely buy a new one someday.
Since you've already come out and spent money...
Why change the date?
"ah."
Satsuki suddenly stopped.
Ayako, who was walking behind, almost bumped into her and quickly stepped aside.
"What's wrong?"
Satsuki turned around, and the worried expression that had been on her face just moments before had vanished.
"I've figured out what to buy."
"What?"
"car."
The more she thought about it, the more suitable the answer seemed.
I wanted to buy it this morning.
There really wasn't anything I liked at home.
The price is still high enough.
This seems much more reasonable than continuing to pick out jewelry in department stores just to meet quotas.
Satsuki immediately turned to look at the Seibu foreign business personnel who had been following beside her.
Where in Tokyo can I see sports cars?
The other party thought for a moment and quickly replied:
"If you'd like to see imported sports cars, you can contact Cornes. There's a car showroom over the bridge; they should have cars in stock that you can view directly."
"Can we go there now?"
"Yes, I'll confirm it for you right away."
Satsuki nodded in satisfaction.
"Then let's go there."
Only after hearing this did Ayako finally realize that she wasn't just saying it casually.
"Are you really going to buy a car?"
"Of course it's true."
Satsuki has already started moving forward again.
"I originally didn't have a car I wanted to drive this morning, so I ended up taking the convoy."
Reiko's expression was somewhat subtle upon hearing this.
"But you must already have quite a few cars in your garage, right?"
"There are a lot."
Satsuki couldn't help but purse her lips when she thought of the whole row of black cars that morning.
"The problem is that there are so many cars, but when I actually had to choose, I didn't want to drive any of them."
This is what she is most dissatisfied with.
The garage is so big, but after all that, I still ended up with Century, President and Mercedes.
Since that's the case, why not just buy a few more that you like and put them in there?
In the future, when I want to drive, I won't have to deal with a situation like this morning again.
As soon as the idea popped into her head, Satsuki immediately felt it made perfect sense.
"Perfect."
She reached up and tucked the hair that had fallen to the side of her face behind her ear, and the corners of her mouth turned up again.
"Buy a few more today."
Reiko glanced at her but didn't say anything.
For some reason, she suddenly felt that the "several vehicles" that Satsuki mentioned might be different from the "several vehicles" that a normal person would understand.
Satsuki, however, was already walking outside with great interest.
"Let's go."
"Go to the bridge."
After a whole day of searching, she finally found something she really wanted to buy with the 1 billion yen her father left her.
