Chapter 108 Forgetfulness

Time flies, and more than ten thousand years have passed in the blink of an eye. During these ten thousand years, an extremely interesting thing happened.

This is about a powerful being in the Netherworld Blood Sea, Styx. He had also gone to Nuwa's Palace to listen to Nuwa's teachings and comprehended some of the essence of creation.

After returning to the Blood Sea, Styx decided to emulate Nuwa's creation of humans and create a race of his own.

Let's see if we can also gain merit.

This was also ordained by Heaven, that the River Styx would create the Asura race.

The Styx River does not have the Nine Heavens Breath Soil or the Three Lights Divine Water, but it uses local materials, such as the water of the Blood Sea and the wronged souls of the creatures that have sunk into the Blood Sea.

Using the laws of creation, and after many attempts, they finally created a race. This race was the Asura race.

As expected, the birth of the Asura race was in accordance with the will of Heaven, and they received the approval of the Heavenly Dao, thus accumulating merit.

Having gained merit from creating the Asura race, Styx severed his second evil corpse in one fell swoop, and his cultivation reached the mid-stage of Quasi-Saint.

However, although Styx's cultivation had improved considerably, he was extremely dissatisfied with the result.

After all, Nuwa created humans and they could attain sainthood, so why could he only advance to a mere minor realm?

The Styx River was frustrated, but there was nothing it could do. And at this moment, it became the news of the primordial world.

Some say that Styx's cultivation and spiritual attainment were too weak, and that creating the Asura race was merely a shortcut, far inferior to Nuwa's creation of humans. Therefore, it is normal that he only advanced to the next minor realm.

Some people say that the reason why Styx could not attain enlightenment is because Styx did not have Primordial Purple Qi. If it had Primordial Purple Qi, it would not only be a small realm, but it would definitely be able to attain enlightenment.

This second viewpoint is somewhat resentful and carries a hint of conspiracy theory.

In fact, by now, for truly top-tier beings, whether they can attain enlightenment or not has gradually become apparent, and they know it in their hearts.

After all, take the Three Corpses Severing as an example. Each time you sever the three corpses, it becomes more difficult. Many people are still stuck at the early stage of Quasi-Saint.

In other words, only by severing the first corpse can one barely advance to the level of Quasi-Saint. This also includes many who forcibly severed their corpses by relying on innate spiritual treasures.

As for severing the second corpse, that seems like a distant dream.

After all, didn't you see that even Styx only managed to sever his second corpse and become a mid-stage Quasi-Saint by virtue of the merit he gained from creating the Asura race?

Moreover, even Nuwa, before creating humans, only severed two of her corpses and was only at the mid-stage of Quasi-Saint.

This shows how difficult it is to sever the three corpses.

There are also the Three Pure Ones, Jieyin, Zhunti, as well as Dijun, Taiyi, Kunpeng, Fuxi, and many other great beings, all of whom have only severed their second corpses.

In the primordial world, only Zhen Yuanzi has severed his three corpses.

Only Kong Xuan knows this; no one else knows yet.

However, on this day, it is said that in the Kunlun Mountains, Laozi specially sought out Yuanshi and Tongtian, asking them to protect him, while he himself attempted to sever his corpse once again.

This time, Laozi was very confident, while Yuanshi and Tongtian seemed somewhat worried.

Tongtian even wore his heavy heart on his face. Before Laozi went into seclusion, he grabbed Laozi and advised, "Brother, why don't we stop severing the three corpses and instead follow in the footsteps of our junior sister Nuwa and attain enlightenment through merit?"

Yuanshi hesitated and asked, "If I sever my self, will I really become heartless?" Unlike Tongtian, Yuanshi knew that his elder brother had made up his mind to sever his three corpses.

As expected, Lao Tzu said, "Although severing the three corpses is the path of ruthlessness, it cannot be considered truly ruthless until the very last step. I will probably still have feelings. However, once all three corpses are severed, I will be much more rational and not easily bound by emotions."

Laozi pulled away Tongtian's hand and walked into the palace: "Third brother, and second brother, each of us has our own path. Although we are brothers, very close, and the three of us are one, we still have our own paths to walk."

"And this is the path I will take; you don't need to overthink it."

After entering the palace, Lao Tzu waved his sleeve and slammed the palace gate shut.

Lao Tzu has begun to sever the third corpse.

For over eight hundred years, Tongtian and Yuanshi, who had been guarding outside, finally heard the commotion coming from inside the palace.

It was a long sigh, followed by a firm and resolute shout.

"cut!"

Lao Tzu finally severed his ego. All three parts of his body were severed.

After emerging from seclusion, Lao Tzu's aura indeed changed drastically, becoming extremely cold and indifferent.

It seemed that in his eyes, all things in heaven and earth, all living beings and spirits, had lost all emotion.

However, at times, Tongtian and Yuanshi seemed to still sense a trace of connection between Laozi and themselves.

It wasn't completely severed.

Of course, Lao Tzu was not truly devoid of emotions.

Realizing this, both men breathed a sigh of relief and felt a glimmer of hope. They then asked Laozi, "Brother, what exactly is your situation now?"

Lao Tzu looked at the two of them, then suddenly smiled faintly and said, "I told you before, there's no need to worry."

"Only after I severed my ego did I understand what the real 'I' was. Now, I am less heartless and more oblivious to emotions."

"My feelings are still there, but sometimes I just forget them."

As he spoke, Laozi patted the top of his head, and a wisp of pure energy flew out from there.

Within this pure energy, just like Zhen Yuanzi's yellow glow, stood three figures, who were none other than Laozi's Three Corpses incarnations.

Slay the good corpse, the evil corpse, and the ego!

However, there is a difference: within this pure energy, there are also faint traces of purple light.

This purple light is the effect of the Primordial Purple Qi.

It turns out that when Lao Tzu severed his third self, he was almost bewitched and became completely ruthless.

But at the critical moment, the Primordial Purple Qi came into play, protecting Laozi's true spirit, which is why Laozi was able to retain a small portion of his emotions.

It cannot be called the Path of Heartlessness, but should be called the Path of Forgetfulness.

Taiqing has severed his three corpses! He has finally become the third being in the primordial world to sever his three corpses. The first was Hongjun, the second was Zhenyuanzi, and the third was Laozi.

However, Laozi was unaware that Zhen Yuanzi had also severed his three corpses, and thought he was the second one.

Now that he has severed his three corpses and advanced his cultivation to the late stage of Quasi-Saint, he emerged from seclusion and talked with Yuanshi and Tongtian for a while.

But then he suddenly set off, heading towards the outside of Kunlun Mountain.

"Second brother, third brother, I will tell you about the mysteries of severing the third corpse when I return. But I have something else to do now." Laozi's voice came from afar.

When Yuanshi and Tongtian chased after them and went outside, they only saw a golden light that flashed by and then disappeared.

The two looked at each other in bewilderment.

Tongtian asked, "Brother, where are you going? Why are you in such a hurry?"

Yuanshi frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and then suddenly had a flash of inspiration, saying, "Could it be...?"

"What is it?" Tongtian asked anxiously when he saw Yuanshi stop speaking halfway through his sentence.

Yuanshi shook his head and said, "Eldest brother must have gone to find Fifth Junior Brother."

"Fifth Junior Brother?"

Tongtian was somewhat confused: "Why does Eldest Brother want to see Fifth Junior Brother?"

Yuanshi said, "What else can we do? Of course, we have to fight. Before this, our fifth junior brother's cultivation level was always one level higher than ours, which had become somewhat of an obsession for our eldest brother."

"Now that my elder brother has severed his three corpses, his cultivation has reached the late stage of Quasi-Saint, or even stronger. Naturally, he will go to find my fifth junior brother to determine who is superior."
