Chapter 127. Matthias's Compromise

The British ambassador's residence at night.

William entered a lavishly decorated room and began to undress.

His gaze was fixed on the beautiful woman who looked flustered; she was Melia, the wife of former parliamentarian Matthias.

"Madam, I promised your husband that I would take good care of you and your daughter. Tonight, I will take good care of you."

"Ambassador, I beg you to spare my daughter and me, for the sake of Matthias's service to you and Congressman Elias."

Melia tried her best to remain calm.

As a member of parliament's wife, she had seen many grand occasions, but in her current situation, even a woman with rich experience would find it difficult to remain calm.

Matthias was furious the moment he saw Sergei.

Sergei and Panin alone could not have done all this. Even if they could find some evidence of his crimes, things would not have progressed so quickly.

He agreed to William's request because he had no other choice, and because he believed that William would protect his wife and daughters out of consideration for their past relationship.

Sergei could tell from Matthias's expression that the other man was becoming increasingly uneasy.

"Without the senator, the senator's wife is just a pretty woman in William's eyes. Do I need to say more about what he will do?" Sergei added fuel to the fire.

Matthias's expression darkened further.

William didn't even consider their past relationship; if he hadn't revealed the hidden money, the other party probably would have turned against him on the spot.

So, just as Sergei said, without him, Melia was just a sheep that William could eat at any time!

He personally sent his wife and daughters into the tiger's den!

"That's all just your side of the story. William wouldn't do that, and besides, there's Elias. Even if William did do it, he wouldn't stand idly by," Matthias said coldly.

"You mean Elias would offend a British ambassador who supports him for the sake of someone like you who has been stripped of his parliamentary seat and is facing life imprisonment?" Sergei smiled.

Matthias gripped the iron bars tighter, glaring coldly at Sergei: "You came here just to gloat?"

Sergei shook his head: "I'm here to help the councilor."

Matthias remained silent.

Sergei continued, "I targeted the senator because we were on opposite sides, but the senator has been defeated, so there is no longer any enmity between us. At this point, William, Elias, and I are enemies. Even if the enemy of my enemy cannot become friends, it wouldn't be a problem for us to cooperate, would it?"

Matthias sneered: "No grudge between us? What a fine 'no grudge' statement."

Sergei remained silent.

Matthias didn't dwell on this, even though the root cause of his predicament was his own sale of the country. Continuing to hold onto this issue would be extremely detrimental to his wife and daughters.
