Chapter 127 Xu Xian Accepts His Grand Vow, Four Sages Test His Zen Mind

Colorful clouds surged from the heavens, and celestial light filled the sky.

Xu Xian's profile also subtly changed.

"Very good, the grand ambition has indeed been fulfilled."

To Xu Xian's surprise, his choice to suppress the golden toad added another small grand ambition to his life.

Upon closer reflection, it must be the wish of the creatures oppressed by that golden toad demon.

The creatures did not want the Golden Toad Spirit to die so easily and hoped that it would be suppressed for eternity.

Xu Xian did this, and naturally, he achieved his small grand ambition.

"It seems we'll need to suppress them more often in the future."

"But before that, I need a Primordial Dao Fruit to balance my cultivation."

Xu Xian wants to become a great supernatural being, so he needs various divine objects such as the Small Great Vow, the Great Great Vow, the Dao Fruit, and the Primordial Dao Fruit.

Moreover, these divine objects need to be kept in a state of balance.

It cannot be completed in order.

Otherwise, his cultivation will encounter serious problems.

For example, if Xu Xian chooses to fulfill one thousand small wishes first, then he will become the God of Fortune recognized on the Investiture of the Gods list.

This deity may not be highly cultivated, but their status is extremely transcendent.

One can enjoy the offerings of incense from all living beings.

The problem is that the God of Fortune's cultivation level is difficult to improve further.

This is equivalent to locking the upper limit.

Therefore, Xu Xian had to keep these four divine objects in a balanced state.

He needs the Primordial Dao Fruit.

Xu Xian can obtain ordinary Dao fruits by exchanging Daoist teachings with Zhenyuan Daxian.

However, the Primordial Dao Fruit requires beings of the Three Pure Ones level.

Xu Xian had once consulted the Bodhi Patriarch about whether he could seek his help, but the conclusion he reached did not satisfy him.

Although Bodhi Patriarch's cultivation was higher, his temperament was extremely orthodox.

It emphasizes following one's nature and acting without acting.

If Xu Xian were to seek the Primordial Dao Fruit from the Bodhi Patriarch, he would be falling into a lower realm.

Not only will he fail to attain enlightenment, but his cultivation will also be negatively impacted.

Therefore, Xu Xian focused his attention on the sermon of the Primordial Heavenly Venerable.

Although the opportunity to listen to lectures was extremely rare, Xu Xian could obtain it easily.

Because Tang Sanzang and his disciples are about to encounter the fox spirit and the White Bone Demon.

At this time, Tang Sanzang and his disciples should be facing the tribulation of the Four Sages testing their Zen minds.

This calamity involves four great deities: Guanyin Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, and the Old Mother of Lishan.

It was one of the calamities that Xu Xian was completely unable to intervene in.

"Let's teach that Pigsy a lesson!"

The four members of the Tang Monk's group crossed the Flowing Sand River and took Sha Wujing as their disciple.

From then on, all five elements were complete, and the master and disciple relationship was fulfilled.

Sha Wujing was honest and simple-minded, and strictly adhered to Buddhist rules.

They served Tang Sanzang closely every day, carrying his load and leading his horse, working tirelessly without complaint.

He was no longer the aloof and arrogant general he once was, nor did he possess any trace of evil spirit; he gained Tang Sanzang's deep trust.

Sun Wukong continued to lead the way, his golden cudgel sweeping away the thorns, his fiery eyes scanning the surroundings warily.

To prevent any more demons or monsters from causing trouble.

Pigsy, carrying his nine-toothed rake, walked breathlessly, complaining from time to time about the perilous journey.

However, they dared not leave the team without permission.

Occasionally, he would even take the initiative to help Sha Wujing with some of his luggage.

Sha Wujing silently carried the heavy burden, staying close to Tang Sanzang's side.

His eyes remained fixed on his master, fearing the slightest mishap.

Tang Sanzang rode a white dragon horse, holding a nine-ringed staff, and chanting incantations.

With one heart set on the West, he only seeks to obtain the true scriptures as soon as possible and save all sentient beings.

The group of five, facing the west wind, traversed the desolate mountains and traveled for about ten days.

Suddenly, a quiet and elegant manor appeared ahead.

The manor was built against the mountain, with blue bricks and gray tiles, and a grand mansion with red gates.

The courtyard wall is filled with exotic flowers and rare herbs, and a fragrant breeze blows through it.

Pavilions, towers, bridges, and flowing water can be vaguely seen inside the courtyard.

It was a paradise on earth, completely out of place with the surrounding desolate landscape.

"Master! Senior Brother! Look! There's a manor ahead!"

Pigsy, with his sharp eyes, spotted the manor first. His eyes lit up instantly, and the weariness on his fat face vanished. He exclaimed, "Finally, we can rest and get some hot food! This journey, enduring wind and rain, has made me, Old Pig, almost skinny!"

Sun Wukong leaped onto the clouds, squinted his fiery eyes and carefully examined the surroundings. His brows furrowed slightly as he thought to himself, "How could there be such a magnificent manor in this desolate wilderness? The surrounding demonic aura is not strong, but it has a touch of immortal charm, mixed with a hint of Buddhist Zen. It's very strange."

He landed on his feet and said to Tang Sanzang, "Master, this manor is very strange. There shouldn't be such a paradise-like place in the desolate mountains. There must be something fishy about it. We must be careful and not enter rashly."

Upon hearing this, Tang Sanzang hesitated for a moment, then put his hands together and said, "Amitabha, Wukong, monks are compassionate. Even if there is something amiss, they must be a kind family. We have been traveling west for a long time and are exhausted. If we could rest here and ask for some food, that would be good."

Sha Wujing also bowed and said, "Master, what my eldest brother said makes sense. We do need to be careful. But I see no evil aura about this manor. Perhaps it really is the residence of a kind person."

Pigsy, unable to contain himself any longer, tugged at Tang Sanzang's sleeve and said urgently, "Master! Brother is just too suspicious! In this desolate wilderness, it's good enough to have a manor at all. What's so strange about it? I'm starving! Let's go inside!"

Tang Sanzang couldn't persuade Zhu Bajie otherwise, and considering that the group of disciples had indeed been traveling and were exhausted, he nodded and said, "Alright, since that's the case, let's go up and knock on the door, explain our purpose, and if it's a kind family, we'll bother them. If there's anything unusual, we'll make further plans."

The group of five arrived at the manor gate, but the vermilion gate was tightly closed.

Above the gate hangs a plaque with the three large characters "Mojia Village".

The handwriting is neat and elegant, exuding a touch of refinement.

Sun Wukong stepped forward, raised his hand, and gently knocked on the door knocker. The "thump thump thump" sound was particularly clear in the quiet mountain forest.

A moment later, the door creaked open. A pretty maidservant dressed in a blue cloth dress came out.

Seeing the four masters and disciples standing outside the door, along with a white dragon horse, he quickly bowed and greeted them, his voice gentle: "Masters, what brings you from afar?"

Tang Sanzang clasped his hands in a gesture of respect: "Amitabha, young benefactor, we are travelers from the Great Tang Dynasty of the East, on our journey to the Western Paradise to obtain Buddhist scriptures. We are weary from our long journey, parched and hungry. We have come to your esteemed estate to trouble you, seeking a vegetarian meal and a moment's rest. We hope you will grant us this favor."

Upon hearing this, the maid smiled and said, "Masters, please wait a moment. My mistress will be delighted to hear that a high-ranking monk on his pilgrimage is coming. I will go and inform her right away."

After saying that, the maid turned and went back into the courtyard.

Before long, the manor gates opened, and a middle-aged woman emerged, adorned with jewels and dressed in luxurious attire.

Behind him followed three beautiful women, each with stunning looks and expressive eyes.

The woman greeted him with a beaming smile, bowing deeply to Tang Sanzang: "Elder, you have come from afar and must be tired from your journey. Please come into the manor to rest."

Tang Sanzang quickly returned the greeting, introduced himself, and stated that he was a person from the Great Tang Dynasty in the East who was traveling to the Western Paradise to worship Buddha and seek scriptures.

Upon hearing this, the woman became even more respectful and invited the four men into the manor.

Inside the hall, the tables and chairs were exquisite, and incense was burning, creating an atmosphere of wealth and luxury.

A maidservant served fragrant tea, and the woman sat down and began to speak slowly.

"Elders, you may not know this, but my surname is Mo. My husband died early, leaving me with this vast fortune and three daughters named Zhenzhen, Aiai, and Lianlian. I am all alone, guarding this family business, with no one to rely on. Today, I have the pleasure of meeting you four elders, all of whom are virtuous people, and I admire you greatly."

The woman's tone shifted, her eyes filled with expectation: "I am willing to offer up all my family's wealth to marry the four elders into my family, allowing them to stay here and enjoy wealth and luxury. I will marry Elder Tang Sanzang, and my three daughters will each be given to one of his disciples. From then on, our family will be reunited in peace and happiness. Wouldn't that be a hundred times better than enduring hardships and trekking through mountains and rivers to the Western Paradise?"

Upon hearing this, Tang Sanzang lowered his head, clasped his hands together, blushed, and remained silent, like a clay or wooden sculpture.

Despite the woman's persuasion, he remained unmoved, focusing solely on meditation, unaffected by wealth and beauty.

Sun Wukong had already figured out that they were Guanyin, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and the Old Mother of Lishan in disguise.

As clever as the Monkey King is, he naturally knows that this is a test from the Bodhisattvas for the four pilgrims on their journey to the West.

Therefore, he simply watched coldly from the sidelines, secretly amused, without exposing the truth, and let the test continue.

Although Sha Wujing was originally a man-eating monster, he was enlightened by Guanyin Bodhisattva and became a disciple of Tang Sanzang.

He was devoted to Buddhism and had no other improper thoughts.

At this moment, he bowed respectfully and said, "Madam, you are mistaken! We, master and disciples, are ordered by the Tang Emperor to travel to the Western Paradise to worship Buddha and seek scriptures. Even if we face mountains of knives and seas of fire, we will never back down. How could we possibly covet wealth and betray our original aspirations!"

Only Pigsy, upon seeing the three beautiful women, was completely captivated and overjoyed, unable to restrain himself any longer.

He stepped forward, rubbing his hands together, and said to the woman with a grin, "Mother, I find your words agreeable! My master is a Buddhist Arhat, his heart is as hard as iron, so he's better off not going. My eldest brother is all-powerful, but he wouldn't be interested in such a blessing. My junior brother Sha is honest and doesn't want to stay either. How about we just take me, Old Pig, in?"

He then turned to Tang Sanzang and bowed repeatedly, saying, "Master, please have mercy and grant my wish! I, Old Pig, no longer want to go on the journey to the West. I want to get married, have children, and enjoy a peaceful life here!"

Tang Sanzang was both angry and annoyed, and scolded, "Bajie! You blockhead, all you think about is beauty and wealth, you've forgotten your duty as a monk! Get out of here now!"

Pigsy wouldn't listen to any of that. He kept pestering the woman, asking how much property she owned and what her daughter's temperament was like. He couldn't wait to get married right away.

Seeing his ridiculous behavior, Sun Wukong couldn't help but step forward, grab his ear, and laugh and scold, "You fool! You can't resist a beautiful woman! You're truly blinded by lust!"

Pigsy howled in pain, but still stubbornly insisted, "Brother Monkey, don't pull my ears! This kind of good fortune has been delivered to my doorstep; how could I refuse it!"

Seeing this, the woman pretended to be angry and said that since the master and disciple refused to stay, she would drive them out of the village.

Pigsy was so anxious that he scratched his head and begged desperately to stay and become the son-in-law.

Seeing that Tang Sanzang's Zen mind was firm, and that Wukong and Sha Wujing had no distracting thoughts, the four saints decided to punish Zhu Bajie, who had the strongest worldly desires and was difficult to rid himself of greed.

The woman pretended to agree to the marriage, and had Pigsy cover his head and face, and cover his eyes with a handkerchief. She then arranged for him to "stumble upon a heavenly marriage" and go to grab the clothes of the three daughters. He would marry whichever one he grabbed.

Pigsy was overjoyed. He covered his head, lunged and grabbed at everything, and danced with glee.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't find a single person. Instead, he fell and ended up with a bruised and battered face, looking utterly pathetic, which made Wukong and Sha Wujing secretly laugh.

After a long while of fussing, as dusk approached, the woman led Pigsy into the back garden, pretending to ask him to stay, before performing her magic.

It is said that each of the three daughters knitted a garment.

Whichever wife Pigsy can wear, he can marry that daughter.

Pigsy was overjoyed as he looked at the magnificent robe and jacket.

He cast a little spell, shrinking his chubby body a couple of times, and actually managed to put on three pieces of clothing.

But for some reason, after putting on the clothes, her magic seemed to malfunction.

Pigsy felt his body getting tighter and tighter, and he even had trouble breathing.

After a night, at dawn.

When Tang Sanzang, Wukong, and Sha Wujing awoke, there was no longer any manor or pavilions; all they saw was a barren slope overgrown with weeds and green trees and mountains.

Then look at Pigsy, hanging from a pine tree, his whole body bound with ropes, his clothes tattered, groaning and complaining.

day.

It turns out that last night, Pigsy was punished by the Four Sages with magic, and was tied up and hung up all night, suffering all kinds of pain.

The greed in my heart has also subsided by more than half.

Sun Wukong stepped forward, untied the ropes, and put Zhu Bajie down, laughing, "Fool, do you still want to be my son-in-law?"

Pigsy, his face filled with shame and dejection, said, "I don't want to think about it anymore! I, this old pig, will never again dare to covet beautiful women. From now on, I will dedicate myself wholeheartedly to protecting my master on his journey to the West to obtain the scriptures!"

At that moment, a golden light flashed in the clouds, and the Old Mother of Lishan, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Manjushri Bodhisattva, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva appeared together, their appearances solemn and dignified, surrounded by auspicious energy.

Guanyin Bodhisattva spoke, "Tang Sanzang, your Zen mind is firm, and you are not blinded by wealth or lust. You are capable of shouldering the heavy responsibility of obtaining the scriptures. Wukong and Sha Wujing are wholeheartedly protecting their master, and their faith is steadfast. Only Zhu Bajie has not shed his worldly desires and is deeply greedy. Today, I will give him a slight punishment, hoping that he will rid himself of greed and delusion in the future and devote himself to Buddhism."

Tang Sanzang and his disciples immediately bowed and thanked the Bodhisattva for her guidance.

The four sages smiled slightly, their figures flashed, transformed into auspicious clouds, and disappeared into the horizon.

Looking up at the clouds, Pigsy was filled with shame and repeatedly kowtowed to Tang Sanzang, admitting his mistake: "Master, I know I was wrong. I will never dare to have worldly desires again. I will strictly abide by the precepts and protect you well on your journey to the West."

'

Tang Sanzang sighed deeply and clasped his hands together, saying, "Amitabha Buddha, to know one's mistakes and correct them is the greatest virtue. Having undergone this test, we should be even more steadfast in our original intentions, single-mindedly heading west, and not have the slightest distracting thought."

Sun Wukong put away his playful expression, carried his golden cudgel and led the way, with Sha Wujing following closely behind carrying the luggage.

Pigsy hung his head in dejection, carrying his rake, and dared not utter another word of complaint.

The four travelers packed their belongings and embarked on their journey westward once again.

After traveling for more than half a month, the group of master and disciples finally arrived at Wuzhuang Temple.
