Eternal Beast Taming Family

Chapter 17 Snow in the Wind, Passengers on the Road

Bai Liangshu turned to Zhang Yu with a somewhat distorted expression. "Sir, are you serious?"

Zhang Yu sat calmly in the chair. "Why don't you go ask the mayor yourself?"

Alright, it seems this is true.

When Bai Liangshu turned to face Chu Shengfan again, a smile had spread across his face. "Come, come, let's register your information over here. You should be able to read, right?"

"I know." Although the boy was young, his tone was very steady.

Bai Liangshu asked many questions and, after registering the information, handed a nameplate to Chu Shengfan.

"This is your identification token for entering and leaving the town mayor's residence. Please keep it safe. Starting tomorrow, you will be coming here to report for duty."

After speaking to Chu Shengfan, he turned to Zhang Yu and said, "Sir, it's all taken care of."

Zhang Yu stood up from his seat and smiled at Chu Jingyu, "Mr. Chu, is there anything else that needs to be arranged here?"

Chu Jingyu cupped his hands in greeting, "There's nothing else to discuss. I still need to arrange accommodation for him, so I won't disturb you any longer."

"If you don't mind, the mayor's residence has dormitories. How about we arrange for you to stay there?"

Chu Jingyu smiled and waved his hand, "We have a relative in town who lives there, so I feel more at ease there. I won't trouble you to make arrangements."

Seeing this, Zhang Yu did not insist, but let the Chu family grandfather and grandson leave the town mayor's mansion.

After the grandfather and grandson left, Bai Liangshu looked curious and asked, "Sir, who is this person? How come the town mayor personally arranged his position?"

At first, I thought it was that old gentleman joining the company.

"If that old gentleman comes, the position of head of the logistics department will have to be changed."

"Huh?" Bai Liangshu looked surprised.

"After all, in terms of cultivation level alone, that old gentleman is no weaker than me."

Zhang Yu squinted at the door, seemingly preoccupied with something.

……

When the grandfather and grandson reappeared, they had already arrived at the Medicine Heart Hall.

Because of the cold weather, many braziers had been lit inside the medicine hall. Upon entering, a wave of warmth that made one feel weak all over rushed over.

"Mr. Chu, what brings you here on such a snowy day?"

The apprentice's surprised voice startled the drowsy shopkeeper behind the counter.

"I've come to buy some medicinal herbs, and also to ask your master for an important matter."

Aside from purchasing medicinal herbs, the apprentices had no control over what followed.

Just then, the shopkeeper overheard Chu Jingyu's words and bowed to him, saying, "Please wait a moment, sir, I will go and inform the master."

Thank you for your trouble.

The shopkeeper disappeared through the back door, while the apprentice headed towards the medicine cabinet. "Is it the same as before?"

Chu Jingyu used to frequently send medicinal herbs here and also often bought some medicinal herbs from here to take back. However, the medicinal herbs he sent were different, but the medicinal herbs he picked up were always the same few kinds.

Chu Jingyu smiled and shook his head. "No, we're just grabbing a few more things this time. Why, isn't Master Liu here today?"

The apprentice shook his head. "It's too cold. The master thinks Master Liu is too old and it's not convenient for him, so he's been allowed to take a few days off. Mr. Chu, what new medicinal herbs did you add?"

"Three three-year-old purple irises, five pink-leaved lotus seeds, five five-year-old bloodwort, four twin grasses, and a piece of bright jade."

Yaoxintang has a complete range of medicinal herbs, so even though some of the herbs Chu Jingyu mentioned were relatively obscure, the apprentices were able to find them all.

After all the medicinal herbs were ready, the shopkeeper came out from the back door, smiling, and said, "Mr. Chu, please."

Chu Jingyu put away the medicinal herbs that the apprentice had just wrapped, and then he and Chu Shengfan followed the shopkeeper through the back door.

During the brief pause in the snowfall, maids and servants came and went, clearing the snow from the courtyard.

Amidst the blue bricks and gray tiles, only one tree of unpicked persimmons hangs like lanterns on its branches, evoking a scene reminiscent of a traditional Chinese ink painting.

Despite the freezing weather, Sun Chunchen sat in the main room, brewing hot tea with relish, the doors wide open, showing no respect whatsoever for the cold.

Upon seeing Chu Jingyu and Chu Shengfan appear in Yuanzheng, Sun Chunchen spoke up from afar.

"Brother Chu, once I've sold this Origin Beast, I never return it."

Chu Jingyu knew, of course, that this was Sun Chunchen joking. "I didn't come here today for that. I have another favor to ask of you, though I'm not going to be shameless."

Sun Chunchen's heart skipped a beat; something was amiss. Over the years, Chu Jingyu hadn't been the type to easily ask for favors.

"For Brother Chu to ask me for help, that's no simple matter. I'm quite curious."

Although he didn't know what Chu Jingyu was asking for, he, coming from the prefectural city, had his own confidence and assurance.

"My grandson is going to take a position in the town mayor's office, so I would like to trouble you for a while. He's a young man who doesn't know anyone in this town, so I'd like to ask you to take care of him."

"He's going to take up the post?" Sun Chunchen's expression showed a hint of doubt, then became clear. "I'm afraid the town mayor's target is you, isn't it? You really are pushing your own grandson out there."

Chu Jingyu did not argue. "There's nothing I can do. After all, the town mayor is a Spirit-level Contract Master. This old man from the mountains has to consider things more carefully."

Sun Chunchen shook his head, then brought up an unrelated topic, "Your talent shouldn't be limited to the Extraordinary Rank."

"Haha, all I want now is for my grandson to grow up quickly and protect the family. That way I can have peace of mind."

Seeing Chu Jingyu's magnanimous attitude, Sun Chunchen felt uncomfortable and waved his hand impatiently, saying, "Fine, fine, just let this kid stay here with me. I'll take good care of him."

Xiaohui, arrange a good place for him to stay.

"Yes," came the clear voice of the pretty maid who had been silent all along, like a background figure.

The maid stepped forward, about to lead Chu Shengfan to other courtyards.

Chu Jingyu waved his hand, "There's no need to look at rooms, just having a place to stay is fine. We need to get back today, so we'll have to rely on Brother Sun from now on."

The maidservant paused for a moment, then turned her gaze to Sun Chunchen.

"Alright, go ahead and take care of your other business. Even if the whole town is wiped out while you're in town, I guarantee he'll be safe and sound."

After leaving Yaoxintang, the two hurriedly headed towards Fuhe Village.

They all harbored a hidden eagerness, anticipating what form the "Phosphorescent Butterfly" would take in Chu Zu's hands.

However, the journey back seemed more difficult than the way there. The snowflakes started falling again in a hurry, and the temperature seemed to have dropped a few degrees.

It was only afternoon, but the sky was already quite dark.

Something seemed to be brewing within the thick clouds.

Scattered lights shone through the windows, casting a warm orange glow on the white snow. Even the few pedestrians on the street seemed to be hurrying along.

Clouds press down on the lamps on the ground, snow blows through the wind and onto the road.

The road home was still long, so the grandfather and grandson tightened their collars and hurried on in silence.
