Making a grand vow is the prerequisite and foundation for establishing a religion.

In summary, he used those forty-eight great vows to deceive the masses, gather their wishes, and thus accord with the will of Heaven, thereby gaining the approval of Heaven, receiving merit, and enabling himself to attain sainthood.

This is why the way the two Western Saints became saints is very different from that of the Three Pure Ones, and they are often referred to as becoming saints through borrowing.

Of course, this is true. However, the loan is based on the credit of all beings, not on guidance or enlightenment.

Otherwise, how could Heaven easily grant them merits if they made empty promises?

However, after accumulating merit, the two must also fulfill their promise to bring prosperity to the West.

Therefore, during the later Investiture of the Gods, the two schemed and plotted to force countless Eastern cultivators to enter the Western world, thus bringing about its great prosperity and settling the karmic debt.
