Chapter 379 Eli's Grandmother
This was a message from his father, Luger, mainly asking if Eli had been affected in any way.
Eli gave a brief reply and then turned to look at the crowd.
"This beam of light appears to be penetrating all platforms, but its manner of appearance and purpose are currently unknown. The Kryptonian warriors are rapidly gathering information. Do you have any leads?"
Natasha shook her head bitterly; she had a real idea.
Eli wasn't disappointed; he had guessed it.
Eli's mind raced, and she decided to get closer to the pillar of light. Although Grandpa Luger had emphasized in the message that Eli should never get close to the pillar of light, when had she ever listened to the old man?
This beam of light might be related to Lin Yi and Tony's disappearance; she has to go there.
"You..." Eli wanted to get Natasha and the others off the starship again, but suddenly stopped.
The beam of light caused a change.
The beam of light began to flicker, each flicker like breathing, and it seemed to be spitting something outward.
Eli quickly zoomed in on a live image.
As the beam of light "breathed," some black dots were quickly expelled.
The black dots were circular, and after leaving the beam of light for a distance, they quickly expanded and turned into... monsters that had never been seen before.
It is entirely black, has long, sharp claws, and slender limbs that reflect the luster of black metal.
"What the hell? There's a monster inside that pillar of light?"
Thor somehow ended up next to the group and, of course, saw what was on the screen.
Eli ignored him and simply reopened the hatch.
"I'll go take a look. You guys do as you please."
After saying that, he leaped away, leaving the remaining people looking at each other in bewilderment.
Steve was decisive, switching the shield to his left arm: "Let's go too. Clint has arrived. Let's find a secluded spot to observe first."
Thor scoffed, "Hiding? That's not like you, Captain."
"We're not hiding, Thor," Steve immediately denied. "We just need to observe for now and gather more information."
"It's no different from hiding," Thor insisted.
"Stop talking nonsense, let's get out of here!" Natasha interrupted the two and jumped out of the starship first.
She also agreed to hide away and observe the situation for the time being.
Meanwhile, Eli was flying when he suddenly received a communication request from Luger.
"What's wrong, sir?" Eli hesitated for a moment before answering the call.
"What are you doing? Don't tell me you're flying towards the pillar of light." That was the old man's opening line.
Clearly, the sound of something cutting through the air reached old man Luger's ears via the communicator.
"No, you're overthinking it." Eli didn't hesitate for a moment before directly deceiving Luger.
"...What do you take me for...?"
"Alright, Grandpa, what is it?" Eli interrupted Luger.
"...Okay, okay, you never let me finish speaking, really..."
Old man Luger's voice carried a hint of resentment.
"If you're all right, I'll hang up now."
"Hey, no, no, no!" Luger cried out urgently, "It's something important, something urgent!"
"explain!"
"..."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the communicator, and just as Eli was wondering if the signal had malfunctioned and the connection had dropped, Luger's voice came through again.
This time, it was a bit heavy and hoarse.
"Your grandmother is back, she's in the spatial ruins..."
Eli's pupils contracted, and his high-speed flight abruptly stopped in mid-air.
She didn't speak, but Luger knew she was listening.
"It was supposed to be a happy occasion, but your grandmother brought back some bad news."
As he spoke, Luger sighed.
"I never understood why your grandmother left back then, and I thought you would lose control and only I would know."
"Your grandmother has revealed the reason why you're losing control; she seems to have found something."
"Don't go to the light pillar. I reckon your grandma is already on her way to find you. Just wait for her. From her words, I could tell that she seemed to know something about the light pillar's appearance."
"I don't know if this is a coincidence, but I have a feeling that a major change is about to occur in this dimensional gap world."
"...Fine, you stay where you are, I'm coming too."
Before Eli could respond, Luger hung up the call.
The final words were unequivocally firm, and Eli certainly understood the meaning behind Luger's different tone. This time, Eli couldn't escape it no matter how hard he tried.
However, given what has happened, Eli no longer intends to hide from Luger, since there's no need to hide anymore.
Feeling a bit irritated, Eli pinched the bridge of his nose, then turned and flew back towards the starship.
……
In Time City, Lin Yi stepped out of the final gate and returned here.
"Yeah, I've only been away for a few hours and I already miss this polluted air."
He sighed, and then the old man, Tony, and a little baby walked out from behind him.
Tony kept glancing at the old man with the kind of loving gaze a father has for his daughter, making the little girl feel quite uncomfortable. She kept dodging him, using him as a shield, trying to avoid his gaze.
But it didn't have much effect.
The main problem is that the old man is too thin and weak, making it quite difficult for him to completely block Tony's view.
"Uncle, I've already told you my name isn't Morgan, and I'm not your daughter."
The little boy, unable to escape, pierced his father's heart with his clear voice.
She also realized that the strange bearded man in front of her didn't seem to have any ill intentions; he had just mistaken her for his daughter.
Thinking that the bearded man's current state was due to missing his daughter, I was no longer so afraid.
They even felt a pang of sympathy and pity, so they were willing to explain things to the bearded man.
Lin Yi watched from the sidelines, thoroughly amused.
Other kids have explained it to him several times, but Tony is like a man possessed, insisting that it's Morgan who has lost her memory for some reason, or that her appearance has been changed by unknown means.
Fortunately, Tony did not do anything further, so Lin Yi could only assume that he was having a fit and would probably calm down after a while.
And didn't Tony consider the problem? The child in front of him is at most six or seven years old. Tony has experienced thousands of years of time. He doesn't even know what kind of timeline Morgan is experiencing now. How did he determine that this is Morgan?
Thinking of this, Lin Yi's eyes darted around, and he looked at the old man beside him.
"What's going on here?!" The old man slammed his cane on the ground with a helpless expression.
Lin Yi tugged at him, lowering her voice: "Hey old man, when did this kid arrive in Time City?"
The old man glanced at him sideways: "Why are you asking this?"
"Mind your own business and answer my question."
"Tsk tsk, young man, how rude. This old man doesn't want to answer."
"However..." the old man changed the subject, "if you agree to my previous request, I might consider telling you."
