Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!

Chapter 376 Guarding the First Line of Defense

Lynn jumped off the bone dragon's back and breathed a sigh of relief.

Safe.

Taking advantage of the fact that the Holy Son was forced to retreat, Lynn turned around and returned to the original battlefield.

Those low-ranking undead he left behind to cover the retreat were almost wiped out by the Holy Light Legion.

Of the nearly one million low-level undead, less than 20% survived.

The ground was covered with broken bones and rotting flesh, like a black carpet, but several legions of the Holy Light, who were hunting the undead, had not yet withdrawn.

They were abandoned by the Holy Son and left on the battlefield, still hunting down the remaining undead.

They did not receive orders to retreat, or rather, they were deliberately left behind.

The Holy Son was in a hurry to escape, so naturally he wouldn't waste time to meet them.

Lynn's eyes turned cold as he looked at the Holy Light Legion and Holy Light creatures.

He opened the undead space, releasing all the main undead forces, which rushed towards the holy light creatures.

The Holy Light Legion was in despair.

They had no shield of holy light, no priests' blessing, no angels' support; they had only themselves and the weapons in their hands.

A paladin gripped his spear, his hand trembling as he watched the undead rush towards him.

"Where is the Holy Son? Why has the army of the dead returned? Has the Holy Son abandoned us?!" His voice was soft, as if he were talking to himself.

The paladin beside him didn't say anything, but gripped his spear tightly and charged towards the undead, only to be crushed by Megatron's foot.

The paladin turned and ran when he saw this, but how could he outrun the "angels" in the sky?

He stopped only when the Graywings breathed gray air on him, and fell to the ground.

The battle ended quickly, and the Holy Light Legion was completely wiped out.

Lynn instructed the dead to clean up the battlefield, drag the corpses together, extract the souls, and leave the essence and blood for the abomination.

Lynn stood on the pile of rubble, looking at the golden pillar of light in the distance.

The battle was a great loss; he lost more than 80% of his low-level undead and more than 20 of his calamity-level and above undead.

But the main force is still there, and the Angel Legion is still there.

He took a deep breath, quickly cleaned up the battlefield, and carefully collected all the spoils.

After gathering the main undead forces, have the remaining low-level undead search the battlefield for suitable materials to repair themselves.

Just then, the familiar black sky loomed over them; it was Marcus, who was preparing to return.

Marcus also saw Lynn, and in a flash, landed not far from Lynn.

Lynn bowed immediately and expressed her gratitude.

Although Marcus's support wasn't timely, putting him in a dangerous situation, it still saved his life.

Marcus walked up to Lynn, looked him up and down, and his gaze fell on the wrecked battlefield behind Lynn.

Broken bones littered the ground, and rotting flesh piled up like small mountains. The remains of hundreds of thousands of low-level undead were scattered across the wasteland, picking and choosing suitable materials.

He frowned slightly.

Lynn's resistance was so fierce? They wiped out all the high-ranking undead?

"How much damage did you suffer?" Marcus asked.

Lynn counted the remaining low-level undead in the undead space and reported a number.

More than 800,000 lives were lost!

After listening, Marcus remained silent for a few moments, then reached out and patted Lynn's shoulder. The pat was heavy, making Lynn's shoulder slump.

"Alright, nobody expected that a Saint-level combatant would infiltrate. It's good enough that they came back alive."

"As for your losses... I will write it down in the mission report. The academy will compensate you. You can recreate the undead, but once you lose your life, you lose everything."

Lynn nodded.

Marcus turned and looked at the golden pillar of light in the distance, remaining silent for a moment.

"Now that the undead are gone, the sweeping mission is no longer suitable for you. Go and garrison the first line of defense."

Clearly, Marcus thought Lynn had nothing left but these few scraps.

Tens of thousands of undead may seem like a lot, but without high-ranking undead, they would only face a well-organized Holy Light Legion in an instant.

Lynn didn't explain, which was fine too, since his losses were also heavy, the academy's compensation would be even more generous.

"Okay," Lynn said.

Marcus took a badge from his belt and handed it to Lynn.

That was the pass token for the first line of defense; it was black and engraved with runes.

"Once you get there, find the Stigmata Wizard Orianna. She's in charge of the first line of defense and will assign you a post."

Lynn took the token and put it away.

Marcus glanced at the ravaged battlefield one last time, then turned and left.

The black curtain of the sky moved again, swallowing up all the light along its path.

Lynn waited until the remaining undead were almost repaired, then mounted the bone dragon and flew towards the first line of defense.

The walls of the first line of defense were much higher and thicker than those of the second line of defense.

The city wall was built of black boulders, covered with defensive runes that glowed with a dark red light like congealed blood.

Every hundred meters along the city wall stood a runic cannon, its muzzle a size larger than that of the second line of defense, firmly pointed toward the Holy Light plane.

Behind the city wall is a tall tower, and at the top of the tower, wizards lead high-ranking undead on patrols from time to time.

The city gate was a black iron gate, engraved with the emblem of the Bone Spire, a skull with eerie green flames burning in its eye sockets.

Lynn jumped off the bone dragon's back and walked to the city gate.

Two guards stood at the entrance, both third-ring wizards, dressed in black robes of the Bone Spire, with identification badges pinned to their chests.

They glanced at Lynn, then at the token he handed them, and nodded.

"Lady Orianna is in the central tower," the guard on the left said. "Go directly there, she will see you."

Lynn thanked him and walked through the city gate.

The central tower is located in the very middle of the city wall and is the tallest building on the entire defensive line. The tower is black with dark red patterns flowing on its surface.

There is a platform at the top of the tower, and a person is standing on the platform.

The man was wearing a long black robe with gold patterns that ran from the collar to the hem.

Her hair was silver-white, reaching down to her waist, with tiny arcs of electricity dancing at the ends.

Her face was very pale, devoid of color, and her eyes were deep purple with vertical pupils.

She stood there, gazing at the golden pillar of light in the distance, motionless.

Lynn walked up to the top of the tower, stopped three steps behind her, and bowed.

"Lady Oriana, Lynn has come to report for duty."

Orianna turned around, glanced at him, her deep purple eyes lingering on him for a few moments before looking away.

"Marcus just mentioned you to me."

Her voice was soft, like the wind blowing across a lake.

"It's commendable that you detected the main force of the Holy Light infiltrating and held out until reinforcements arrived."

Lynn did not speak.

Orianna walked to the edge of the tower and pointed to the golden pillar of light in the distance.

"The mission of the first line of defense is simple: hold the city wall and prevent the Holy Light creatures from crossing this line. Your garrison is at the seventh section, the seventh beacon tower from the east."

Lynn nodded.

Orianna took a crystal from her bosom and handed it to Lynn.

"This is the deployment map for the seventh section. Take a look for yourself. An engineering team will be building the Wizard Tower for you in the next couple of days. Just tell them what you need."

"Find Lao Luo, who's in charge of logistics and supplies. He'll explain the precautions to you." After she finished speaking, she turned around and continued to look at the golden beam of light.

Lynn accepted the crystal, bowed, and withdrew before going to find the so-called "Old Luo".
