Dark Wizard: Rise! My undead army!

Chapter 285 Breaking the Royal City

On the east city wall, a giant bone snake is writhing.

This is a peak-level Calamity-class bone serpent, the very one Lynn seized from Morpheus, the one that had chased after him during Lynn's apprenticeship.

Today, the bone snake is thirty meters long and as thick as a water bucket, its entire body made up of pale white bones pieced together.

Its skull has three curved horns, and its eye sockets burn with eerie green flames.

At this moment, it was twisting wildly, its tail whipping the top of the city wall next to it, and its head hitting the ground, creating a large crater.

Someone is killing it.

A dozen shadow guards pounced on the bone snake from all directions, their daggers piercing between the bone crevices, where threads of soul fire were pulling them.

That's the bone snake's most vulnerable spot—the joint gaps.

The bone serpent's tail lashed out, sending three shadow guards flying as they crashed into the city wall, turning into a pool of blood and gore.

But the remaining shadow guards did not stop.

A thin, dark figure climbed onto the bone snake's back, stepping on the protruding bone spikes as it surged upwards.

His speed was astonishing; he moved across the writhing body of the bone snake as if it were flat ground.

The bone snake felt something on its back and tried to turn its head to bite it.

The instant it turned its head, another shadow guard leaped up from the side and plunged a knife into its eye socket.

The bone serpent's soul fire pulsed violently, its eerie green light flickering erratically.

It let out a silent roar, then suddenly swung its head, sending the shadow guard who had pierced its eye socket flying into the crowd, never to rise again.

The thin, dark shadow finally climbed to the top of the bone snake's head.

He clamped his legs around the bone snake's neck to steady himself and drew his short sword from his waist.

The sword gleamed with a faint silver light; it was a sacred artifact!

He took a deep breath, and all his fighting spirit surged wildly into his arm.

The muscles bulged, the blood vessels protruded, and the entire arm became noticeably thicker.

The bone snake was still struggling frantically, its head swinging back and forth, causing the small, dark figure to stagger about, but its legs remained tightly clamped together, refusing to let go.

He seized the opportunity, and as the massive head swung to the left once more, he plunged his short sword down with his right hand.

The blade pierced the eye socket, pierced the soul fire, and penetrated deep into the skull.

The bone snake's body froze.

It trembled violently a few times, then crashed to the ground with a thud, its thirty-meter-long body slamming into the earth and raising a cloud of dust.

A deafening cheer erupted from the city wall.

"Kill them! Kill them!"

Having repelled the undead attack once again, the general, panting heavily, pushed away the soldiers who were helping him and glanced around at the situation.

Of the three thousand guards, less than a thousand remained.

The survivors were all wounded. Some leaned against the battlements, panting; some sat on the ground bandaging their wounds; and some knelt beside the bodies of their fallen comrades, heads bowed and silent.

More than thirty of the shadow guards died.

Many of the kingdom's top experts also fell.

But the city walls are still there.

"General! Look!"

A soldier pointed outside the city.

The spirits of the dead retreated.

It's not a rout, it's a retreat.

They regrouped, retreated fifty meters, then stopped and stared at the people on the city wall.

"They...receded?"

"We won? We won?"

Some people started cheering.

Some people started cheering.

A young soldier raised his weapon and shouted, and the others followed suit.

The sound grew louder and louder, drowning out the wind outside the city.

The general did not cheer.

He stared at the retreating spirits, a strong sense of unease rising within him.

That doesn't make sense, why are they retreating?

They have an overwhelming numerical advantage; if they charge again, the city walls will definitely fall.

But they retreated...

Suddenly, the sky darkened.

It wasn't the kind of darkness you get when it's dark; it was a large shadow drifting in from afar, obscuring the already thin light.

A huge bone dragon is flying this way.

The skull dragon was entirely bluish-green, with a wingspan exceeding fifty meters.

Its skeleton was covered with a faint, ethereal light, and with each flap of its wings, tiny specks of light would fall.

Where it flew, the clouds dispersed, as if driven away by something.

On the back of the bone dragon—

There was a person standing there.

The black wizard's robes fluttered in the wind, and his cold face remained expressionless.

Those eyes were looking down, as if they were looking at a group of ants.

This person was Lynn, who had been drawn here by the death of the bone snake.

He left a portion of his consciousness on all the main undead of the Cataclysmic and Nightmare classes, and he sensed it the moment the Bone Serpent died.

Unfortunately, we arrived too late.

The bone snake is dead.

Lynn frowned slightly as he looked at the fallen bone snake corpse below.

He had seized this bone snake from Morpheus. Back when he was an apprentice, this snake had chased him all over the place and nearly killed him.

And now... he's dead.

Tsk... lost a Cataclysmic undead.

Then let's use the enemy's corpses as burial offerings.

The bone dragon continued forward, and when it reached directly above the city wall, it slowly descended and hovered less than fifty meters away from the city wall.

The surrounding spirits all bowed their heads.

The monsters that were just attacking frantically now seemed to have met their king.

Some lay on the ground, burying their heads in the soil.

Some huddled in the shadows, too afraid to move.

Those that were flying in the air also came down, folded their wings, and lowered their heads.

Tens of thousands of souls bowed to the same person at the same moment.

It looked like they were bowing.

This is a basic respect that subordinates should show to superiors.

The guards on the city wall, who had just been cheering, now sounded as if something had choked them.

The cheers stopped.

Someone dropped their weapon on the ground.

Some people's legs buckled and they knelt down.

Many people stared blankly at the sky, at the enormous bone dragon, and at the person on its back, their minds completely blank.

The burly general slowly stood up.

One of his arms was still hanging down, and his leg was still bleeding, but he stood up straight and stared at the man looking down at them.

The broken sword was still in his hand.

He took a deep breath and swung the broken sword violently.

A golden sword aura shot out from the broken sword and crashed straight into the large bell hanging on the city wall's bell tower.

"clang--!"

The enormous sound of the bell resounded throughout the heavens and the earth.

The sound of the bell was like a bucket of cold water, waking the soldiers from their dazed state.

They shuddered and instinctively gripped their weapons tighter.

The general's voice boomed like thunder:

"Prepare for battle!!"

The city's defenders looked at the dense swarms of undead outside the city, at the terrifying bone dragon overhead, and at the indifferent figure on the dragon's back.

Their legs were still shaking, their hands were shaking, but they gritted their teeth, stood guard in their positions, and pointed their weapons at the sky.

The general stood at the very front of everyone.

His broken sword pointed at the person on the back of the bone dragon, his voice hoarse but firm:

"You—you are the culprit behind all of this!"

Lynn did not speak.

The general gritted his teeth, his voice growing louder and louder:

"Do you even know how many people you've killed! Those civilians, those children, what did they do wrong! What right do you have?!"

Lynn remained silent.

The general's eyes turned red, and his voice roared:

"Look at this city! Look at these corpses! They had families too, parents and children! What right do you have to do this?!"

Lynn looked down at him.

His gaze was calm, without any ripples.

But the bone dragon couldn't resist.

It opened its mouth, and a ghostly blue light shone from deep within its throat.

The general's pupils contracted sharply, and he raised his broken sword as if to say something.

A burst of annihilating bone fire erupted forth.

The eerie blue flames instantly engulfed the burly general and his guards.

There were no screams.

There was no struggle.

Those people's bodies turned to ashes directly in the flames.

Their expressions were still frozen on their faces, still shouting, still angry, but the next second everything was gone.

The breath swept across the city wall, burning a huge gap in it.

Lynn looked away and patted the bone dragon's head.

"Don't do that again next time," he said, his tone tinged with helplessness.

"What a waste. Those souls could be excellent material."

The bone dragon let out a low growl, as if admitting its mistake.

Lynn didn't say anything more.

Below, countless undead poured into the city through the breach.
