Chapter 67 Journey to Knockover Alley
Early the next morning, Maurice changed into his wizard robes, carried a large backpack, and left the orphanage, ready to head to Diagon Alley.
He had originally intended to ask Harold for another ride, but it wasn't good to keep bothering others.
Therefore, he chose to travel by Knight Bus this time.
The Knight Bus is a form of public transportation among wizards. Maurice learned about its summoning method and precautions from a Ravenclaw senior.
"Unless absolutely necessary, I don't recommend taking the Knight Bus. If you must take it, it's best not to eat anything before boarding."
That's what the senior student said, and Morris obediently followed her advice.
He pulled his backpack strap up a bit, walked to a relatively open spot by the roadside, and held his wand out in the air, making a gesture similar to a Muggle calling for a taxi.
Just as he held that position for thirty seconds, his hand started to ache, and he wanted to switch to the other hand—
"Bang!"
A strikingly designed purple three-decker bus appeared out of nowhere, stopping in front of him with a beautiful drift, creating a gust of wind that tousled his hair.
The car door was suddenly pulled open, and a young man in a purple uniform, who didn't look very bright, poked his head out.
"Welcome aboard the Knight Bus. We provide emergency passenger transport for wizards in distress. I am your ticket seller, Stan Sampark. Sir, please board."
Morris calmly nodded and got into the car.
The carriage was large, but instead of regular seats, it was filled with beds made of brass pillars. An old wizard was fast asleep on one of the beds in the last row.
"Where are you going?" the ticket seller asked enthusiastically, like a young man who had just started working.
Morris found a berth closest to the ticket seller and said, "Leaky Cauldron, thank you."
"Eleven scops!" Stan said cheerfully, holding out a hand. "If you pay fifteen scops, you'll get hot chocolate, a hot water bottle, and a toothbrush of your choice!"
Morris handed over only eleven siscos.
The car started moving and began to hurtle through the city. Amazingly, whenever it was about to hit an obstacle—whether it was a person or a wall—it would avoid it on its own in a way that defied the laws of physics.
Morris watched in utter astonishment, thinking that Newton must be turning in his grave.
Unfortunately, the process was far from pleasant; the vehicle was extremely bumpy.
When the car stopped, Morris felt as if his internal organs were about to shift.
"We've arrived at Leaky Cauldron."
Have a pleasant journey!
Stan helped open the door, and Morris picked up his backpack and stepped out of the car with unsteady steps.
Muggles walked by, but no one noticed the bus that had appeared out of nowhere.
Morris walked into the Leaky Cauldron, a place teeming with wizards, and was finally able to cast a levitation spell on his backpack to lighten its weight.
Then he ordered a butterbeer and a sandwich from the bar owner, Tom.
After a short rest, Maurice went to the entrance of Diagon Alley in the backyard.
Strangely, he counted three bricks above the trash can, then two more horizontally, and tapped the wall repeatedly with his wand, but the wall didn't react at all.
Morris frowned, thinking he had misremembered something.
After careful inspection...
"Which bastard moved the trash can?!"
Morris smirked and tapped the correct brick three times.
This time, the archway leading to Diagon Alley opened successfully.
Diagon Alley was as bustling and noisy as ever. With Christmas approaching, many shops had already decorated their shops with Christmas trees, ribbons, and strings of sparkling sequins.
Morris didn't linger and immediately slipped into a nearby secondhand shop.
When he came out, he had a piece of parchment in his hand.
This is a map of Diagon Alley, showing the names of all the shops and their most recent sale periods.
Something like "Florence Fosco Ice Cream Shop offers buy-one-get-one-free every Wednesday afternoon".
It's practical and inexpensive, requiring only one Xike.
Of course, that's not the point.
The key point is that on the map, at the corner of an alley, there is a huge "X" scrawled in black ink, with several large words next to it:
"Do not enter under any circumstances!"
This place is most likely the entrance to Flip-Over Alley.
That's also Morris's main goal today.
Referring to the map, he made several turns and successfully entered the alleyway.
In stark contrast to the bustling and bright Diagon Alley, this place is narrow and dark, with dilapidated buildings on both sides that seem ready to collapse at any moment.
Morris walked on the uneven road, feeling the sticky sensation of filth under his feet, and calmly surveyed his surroundings.
There weren't many pedestrians on the street, only a few figures wrapped in dark, old robes gathered together chatting.
A short child appearing in such a place is bound to be conspicuous and attract attention from those around him.
Indeed, Morris had only walked a few dozen meters when he had already felt a lot of stares.
Those gazes were filled with assessment, curiosity, and, more than anything, undisguised malice.
However, no one actually came up to stop him.
Because he was pretending.
He not only wore a black mask that almost covered his entire face, but also made his robe and hood bigger to hide his whole body.
More importantly, he held the skeleton dog in his arms.
Whenever someone looks at him with ill intent, the skeletal dog will always glare back with its eyes that are filled with eerie blue flames.
This is very effective.
Morris could still faintly hear people around him talking about him.
"Who is that?"
"Never mind, he's probably a dwarf."
"I guess it's a compound drug."
Such dialogues are commonplace.
On one occasion, Maurice deliberately stopped in front of people who were whispering and watched them quietly.
The group immediately scattered like a flock of startled crows.
Hahaha, that's really interesting.
In fact, even if someone were to attempt an attack, Morris wouldn't be worried at all.
He is fully capable of handling the situation unless he is suddenly surrounded and attacked by a group of people.
Curse of Weakness, Curse of Wailing, Shadow Spell, Bone Summoning Spell...
Whether it's offense, defense, or even escape, he has the corresponding methods.
Unfortunately, no one came.
After walking for a while, Maurice took out a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and glanced at it.
"Ezra Frick, basement of 21 Knockdown Lane."
This was the address the owner of the secondhand robe shop had given him the last time he visited Diagon Alley.
His skeletal dog was also purchased from this man.
Let's go see what kind of place it is first, at No. 21 Flip Lane.
