My necromancer career begins at Hogwarts
Chapter 38 Death, Request
As the school bell rang, the students quieted down and waited for the professor to arrive.
However, even after half a minute had passed, the stage remained empty.
"Where's the professor?" Hermione couldn't help but ask in a low voice.
Morris focused his gaze on the blackboard at the front of the classroom, where something unusual seemed to emanate.
The next second, a transparent figure emerged from the blackboard.
Like all ghosts, Professor Binns was a pale, translucent ghost.
He looked quite old, wearing a vintage wizard's robe, thin, with a wrinkled face, a tired and indifferent expression, and frighteningly empty eyes.
At first glance, Maurice thought it didn't look like a living person.
Well, Professor Binns wasn't a living person to begin with.
In short, this is a rather charismatic ghost.
Compared to the ghosts Maurice had seen at the opening banquet, Professor Binns was clearly more in line with his stereotypes about ghosts.
The students present were all taken aback by Professor Binns's appearance.
"Is he a ghost?"
"It seems so."
Morris heard Ron and Harry whispering behind him.
However, Professor Binns seemed not to hear the students' noise and began lecturing on his own.
"The history of magic, as a discipline that records the rise and fall of the wizarding world, is often underestimated by young wizards."
"Everything I teach you is the truth, not baseless stories."
"Now, let's begin class. Please turn to the section on 'The Early International Wizarding Federation' in your textbooks..."
His voice was flat and lifeless, with a sense of death hanging by a thread.
The students unconsciously quieted down.
Then, Professor Binns began to speak from the book in a flat, monotone voice.
Morris listened attentively at first, but when he noticed that what Professor Binns was saying was exactly the same as what was in the book, he couldn't help but feel a little bored.
Thirty minutes later, he looked around and found that most of the students had unfocused eyes.
Harry was listlessly poking at the edge of the parchment he used for taking notes, while Ron had completely collapsed onto the table.
Hermione, on the other hand, was extremely serious, straightening her back and taking meticulous notes.
Even so, Professor Binns showed no intention of interacting with the audience and simply continued lecturing.
His gaze wasn't even on the students.
It looks like a very boring class, Morris thought.
So he simply gave up listening to the lectures and focused all his attention on Professor Binns himself.
He was more interested in Professor Binns himself than in the fact that there wasn't much knowledge already written in books.
The Ghost Professor, now that feels like the magical world.
"In the early 15th century, witch hunts gradually spread throughout Muggle society, coupled with frequent cross-regional disputes among wizards..."
Hermione raised her hand. "Professor! I have a question!"
Professor Binns was taken aback, as if he had not expected this scene.
"Speak," he said calmly, his tone devoid of any emotion.
Hermione stood up and asked, "Regarding the witch hunts, are the Muggles hunting real wizards?"
This girl was actually listening to the lesson!
Morrison was somewhat surprised.
Professor Binns glanced in Hermione's direction and began to answer her question.
But then, Morris keenly noticed that Professor Binns' gaze lingered on him for a few seconds.
Once the question was answered, Hermione sat down contentedly.
Strangely, Professor Binns did not continue lecturing, but instead slowly glided across the podium and floated to Morris's side.
Morris instinctively looked up at him.
Unexpectedly, Professor Binns' previously empty eyes were now focused precisely on him.
Morris looked around and realized that everyone's eyes were on him.
"Is there a problem?" he asked.
However, Professor Binns simply shook his head, returned to the podium, and continued lecturing in his monotonous voice, his eyes returning to normal.
Morris felt completely bewildered.
And just like that, class time passed quickly.
As the bell rang, the students walked out of the classroom one after another, as if granted a pardon.
Ron yawned and patted Maurice on the shoulder. "Maurice, would you like to come with us to the hall? We want to talk to you about what happened last night."
Harry finished packing his things and came over with a friendly smile. "We have a lot of questions for you."
Seeing this, Hermione pursed her lips, said nothing, and quickly picked up her textbooks and notes, leaving the classroom first.
Morris glanced at Professor Binns on the podium, shook his head, and said, "You all go ahead, I have other things to do."
Harry nodded. "Okay, see you in the Great Hall."
The two left with the crowd, and the classroom quickly became empty, leaving only Professor Binns, Morris, and a magical broom that was automatically cleaning.
Morris silently walked to the podium and looked directly at Professor Binns, who was standing there.
Professor Binns' eyes cleared again.
"Hello, Professor Binns," Maurice said. "I am Maurice Black. You seem to have something to discuss with me."
Professor Bins smiled slightly.
Morris was surprised; this was the first time he had seen Professor Binns' expression change.
Professor Binns said gently, "Then may I call you Morris?"
This tone is completely different from when he speaks in class; it gives the impression of a friendly, elderly neighbor.
Morris paused for a moment, then said, "Of course, Professor."
"Very good, Morris." Professor Binns nodded slightly, looking at him with his now clear eyes. "Before we begin our conversation, I'd like to confirm one thing."
"Are you—the Grim Reaper?"
"grim Reaper?"
Morris tilted his head, never expecting Professor Binns to ask such a question.
It's even somewhat absurd.
Professor Binns observed his expression and continued, "Ah, perhaps I'm mistaken, but one thing is certain."
"You are a wizard favored by death."
Morris's heart skipped a beat.
Professor Binns' statement is so convincing.
“I don’t understand, Professor,” Morris said cautiously. “What does it mean? It doesn’t sound like a blessing.”
"It's certainly not a blessing, but it's not necessarily a curse either." Professor Binns floated closer. "Death is close to you. I think those creatures at Hogwarts named Thestrals are very close to you, aren't they?"
Morris did not deny it.
"Looks like I was right." Professor Binns chuckled.
"So, Professor," Maurice asked the most crucial question at this point, "why are you telling me this? Is it just to tell me this?"
The faint smile on Professor Binns' face vanished.
He drifted further away from the podium, as if he were organizing his thoughts.
Then, in an extremely calm tone, he said:
"Being blessed by death is an extremely rare ability for a wizard. Only someone with this ability can help me."
"This is my personal request, Maurice. When you are strong enough, if you can—"
"Kill me."
