My necromancer career begins at Hogwarts
Chapter 26 The Gateway Between Two Worlds
Although there was no alarm clock, Maurice's good sleep habits made him wake up very early.
After washing up, he glanced at the clock on the wall; it was only six o'clock. Breakfast at Hogwarts was at seven-thirty, so he had plenty of time to himself.
The canned food has disappeared; it must have slipped out the window.
Morris wasn't too worried about it. Although his cat was mischievous and playful, it was also very clever and always managed to find its way home.
So what should he do on his first morning at Hogwarts?
"The Book of the Dharma Master"
As he meditated, the Book of the Mage slowly emerged in his mind.
As usual, he checked the contents of the book.
But today, a brand new chapter has appeared on the pages.
"The Gate Between Two Worlds?"
The name has an inexplicable strangeness to it, sounding like some kind of passage or door.
The description above consists of only one line: It allows entry into the gap between life and death.
The specific content is a magic circle diagram, somewhat similar to a magic circle for converting undead creatures, except that the runes in the center are different.
The most striking detail is the final warning: the Two Realms Door must be used while the user is dead.
Upon seeing this, Maurice unconsciously frowned.
Use it while dead? That doesn't sound good.
He was a mage who studied the undead, but he had no intention of becoming an undead himself.
He didn't want to give up on life so soon.
This reminded him of what the ghost had said yesterday—even if you're going to die, at least choose a romantic way to die.
...It seems like dying for magical research isn't so bad?
No, no!
Morris quickly shook his head, dismissing the dangerous idea.
It seems this magic can't be tried for the time being. He sighed softly.
What exactly is the space between life and death?
Unable to satisfy his curiosity, he felt a strange discomfort, like being tickled by a feather.
Suppressing his curiosity, Maurice composed himself, sat down on the bed, and began his daily meditation.
He now discovers that meditation not only increases the success rate of casting curse spells, but also helps in learning magic at Hogwarts.
This is also why he was able to quickly master the Transfiguration Charm.
About an hour later, Maurice opened his eyes.
A brief meditation is enough to clear one's mind.
Outside the window, the sun had fully awakened, and the outline of the distant forest was particularly clear in the morning glow.
Donning a robe, he decided to explore the castle before breakfast.
When he pushed open the dormitory door, he was surprised to find a grayish-white, illusory figure.
It is a wild female ghost.
"Hello," Morris greeted politely.
The female ghost merely glanced at him before silently sinking into the floor.
It seems the other party has no interest in talking.
Morris shrugged indifferently and walked down the stairs.
The Ravenclaw common room was still quiet in the early morning, except for Prefect Robert, who was whispering to another student by the window, wands in his hands.
Morris vaguely caught the words "black magic," "evil curse," and "curse."
Perhaps noticing Maurice's gaze, Robert looked up and gave him a gentle smile. "Maurice! Did you sleep well?"
"The beds at Hogwarts are much more comfortable than I expected," Maurice replied, stepping forward. "What are you two talking about?"
"Last year's OWLs exam," Robert said without batting an eye, "I didn't get all the excellent grades, which is a bit of a shame. I wish I could take the exam again."
Morris keenly sensed the unnaturalness in the other person's tone, but simply nodded. "The exam is very important."
He had no intention of delving into other people's secrets, even though what he had just heard was indeed intriguing.
The student next to Robert winked at him, "We need to go to the library to save some seats."
"Time is always tight," Robert quickly replied, putting his wand back into his robe. "Goodbye, Maurice."
"goodbye."
After saying goodbye to the two men, Maurice left the Ravenclaw common room.
Following yesterday's route, he went straight to the marble staircase.
He hadn't noticed it yesterday when Robert was leading the way, but now the stairs seemed to come alive, changing direction at will in front of him.
The staircase that had just led to the first floor suddenly turned in a completely different direction, and another section of stairs kept slowly rotating, with some steps even disappearing just as he was about to step on them.
Morris believed it was a design purely intended to disgust people.
It seems our plans to explore the castle are on hold; just spending time on these stairs will waste a lot of time.
Just as a staircase floated in front of him and he was about to step onto it, a voice sounded from behind him.
"If I were you, I wouldn't take this staircase. The real staircase to the first floor is on your right."
Morris withdrew his foot and turned towards the source of the voice. "Oh, thank you, Hermione."
Hermione Granger stood a short distance away, holding a book, her brow furrowed as she watched the moving staircases. "These staircases will keep moving like this. I suggest you write down their patterns—there are patterns, you just need to observe them."
"Excellent suggestion." Morris nodded. "Have you memorized how they will move?"
"Most of them," Hermione said with a hint of pride.
"That's amazing," Morris exclaimed.
Hermione smiled and narrowed her eyes—no one dislikes a sincere compliment, and she was no exception.
Even if the praise comes from someone she doesn't particularly like.
"So, have you had breakfast?" Morris then asked.
"Hmm," Hermione adjusted the books in her arms and said excitedly, "Actually, I'm going straight to the Charms classroom. Ah, this is the first time I've ever been so excited about class."
"Me too."
Morris casually replied, and just as he was about to step onto the stairs Hermione had mentioned leading to the first floor, the stairs suddenly disappeared.
"What a pity, you've missed your time," Hermione said. "Just wait another half a minute, and this staircase will turn back soon."
Morris pulled his foot back from the ground, looking somewhat helpless.
Just then, a spiral staircase next to them slowly came to a stop, and three female students walked up, chattering away.
Judging from their robes and appearance, they were three Gryffindor students, and new students at that.
"Did you really see it? That talking portrait?"
"Of course! It even bowed to me..."
They seemed to be chatting about interesting things at Hogwarts.
"They really have a lot of energy," Morris couldn't help but remark.
This reminded him of his student days in his previous life, a time he fondly remembered.
He is now a pathetic adult—at least in his soul.
Three female students walked happily toward them.
As she passed Hermione, Hermione smiled and greeted her, "Hello."
However, the three men merely nodded slightly in acknowledgment and quickly walked past her.
Hermione's smile froze slightly.
