Become a Homelander and a Marvel superstar
Chapter 623 Who are you?
Inside the Oval Office of the White House, the dust and smoke have dissipated.
Butcher woke up from the ruins first.
He swayed as he stood up, feeling his bones protesting, but his bloodshot eyes immediately locked onto a figure not far away.
John groaned in pain, trying to get up by bracing himself on the ground with his hands, but his limbs felt as heavy as lead.
He looked up and glared at Butcher as he approached.
Instinctively, he widened his eyes, attempting to project his heat vision.
Nothing happened. There was no red light, no high temperature.
John was stunned.
He glared again, his eyes wide with anger, but still there was no reaction.
He then pushed off the ground with both legs, trying to take off into the air.
But he only jumped less than half a meter high before falling back to the ground.
What's going on... my power...?
An unprecedented sense of panic welled up inside him.
"What's wrong, buddy?" Butcher grinned, revealing a cruel smile. "Feeling like you've become a mortal again, isn't it a little hard to get used to?"
"Let blood flow like a river, kid!"
Growing increasingly panicked, John steeled himself and decided to strike first.
He then rushed over and punched Butcher.
Seeing the slow-moving John, Butcher raised his hand and caught his fist.
"This is French's revenge!"
Then a series of punches followed!
Huge fists rained down on John's face.
One punch, two punches, three punches.
John's brow bone was split open, his nose bridge was broken, his lips were torn, and blood covered his entire face.
Bang bang bang!
John was knocked to the ground, and intense pain overwhelmed his mind.
This was the first time since he grew up that he had experienced such pure and real physical pain.
He collapsed to the ground in a sorry state, looking like a thug who had been beaten up in a street brawl.
"No...no..." John pleaded, his voice trembling, as he moved backward. "William, wait! We can talk!"
Butcher glanced around.
He picked up the heavy crowbar again, and the feeling of the metal in his hand gave him a sense of security.
"Money! I can give you money!" John shouted in a panic, kicking his legs wildly on the ground. "I have lots of money! I can give you the Water Corporation! I can make you the most powerful person in the world! Just let me go!"
However, Butcher remained unmoved and approached him step by step.
"No! Butcher! You can't do this!" John broke down, tears and snot mingling with blood. "I had so many chances to kill you, but I didn't! I let you live, you owe me!"
Butcher's eyes were cold, devoid of any pity.
John saw no sign of life in his eyes, and he despaired.
Enraged, he roared, "It's fake! It's all fake! You can't do this!"
"I...I am a citizen of my homeland!"
Butcher stopped in front of him, expressionless, and said, "No, you're nothing."
"And this is to avenge my beloved Becca!"
He gripped the crowbar tightly with both hands, aimed it at John's forehead, and plunged it in with all his might.
John's heart stopped in terror, his eyes wide with despair as he awaited death.
However, the expected excruciating pain did not come.
Time seemed to stand still at that moment.
The crowbar stopped just one centimeter from his forehead.
John moved his eyes shakily and saw a hand wearing a red glove firmly gripping the tip of the crowbar.
Butcher's arm muscles bulged as he desperately pressed down, but the crowbar seemed to be welded to the ground, remaining completely still.
Following the red glove, Butcher's gaze slowly moved upwards.
A blue bodysuit, gold shoulder armor, a red and white Stars and Stripes cape, and that handsome face with a perfect smile.
Butcher looked as if he had seen a ghost.
He unconsciously loosened his grip, took two steps back, and stared at the person in front of him in disbelief.
What did he see?
The same slicked-back golden hair, the same blue bodysuit, the same red cape.
Another damn Homelander?!
John, who was lying on the ground, could also see the face of the person who came.
He stared in disbelief, his mind went blank, and he even wondered if he was hallucinating from fright.
Butcher was terrified, but he was, after all, a seasoned outlaw.
He gritted his teeth, steeled his resolve, and swung his right fist with all his might, aiming straight for Ah Zu's face.
Azu snorted coldly as he watched Butcher's fist swing towards him.
A powerful gust of air burst forth from his mouth.
"Bang!"
Butcher felt like he'd struck gold!
He was sent flying backward, crashing heavily into the rubble of the wall, spitting blood as he rolled to the ground.
But Butcher reacted quickly. Despite the excruciating pain that felt like his internal organs were shifting, he scrambled to his feet.
The next second, without the slightest hesitation, he escaped through the hole in the wall.
They didn't even glance at Kimiko, who was still unconscious, or at Ryan, who was lying in the corner.
Azu stood still, showing no intention of pursuing Butcher.
Instead, he went to John, who was slumped on the ground, trembling.
John looks absolutely miserable right now.
His face was covered in blood, his nose was sunken, and his battle suit was even stained with urine.
Those once self-assured eyes now hold only fear and confusion.
Azu reached out and grabbed John by the collar, lifting him up like a chick, making him barely stand.
John's legs were as limp as noodles, and he only managed to stay upright thanks to Azu's support.
Azu frowned, and an invisible force surged within him.
John felt a warm energy brush against his face.
The fractured nasal bone made a faint cracking sound and quickly returned to its original position.
The open wound quickly scabbed over, the redness and swelling subsided, and the bleeding stopped.
"What...what did you do?" John touched his face, too shocked to speak. "Who...who are you?"
He looked at the familiar face in front of him, and all sorts of thoughts flashed through his mind.
"I know!" John suddenly shouted, his voice shrill and neurotic. "You're a clone that Walter secretly bred! Isn't that right? It was that old bastard Stan Edgar who did it? He pulled this trick behind my back!"
"A clone?" Azu sneered, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes. "Even in your prime, I could crush you with a single finger. If clones truly exist, it's you, the imposter."
Upon hearing this, John was naturally extremely indignant.
He's a Homelander! The most powerful being in the world!
However, he could not sense any superpowers whatsoever.
The fear from the beating Butcher gave me was still lingering in my body.
A wise man doesn't suffer a loss he can avoid.
As long as I can live, anything is fine.
John immediately put on a fawning smile, a change of expression so swift that even Azu was amazed.
"Yes, yes, you're right!" John nodded repeatedly, bending over slightly. "I'm a clone! I'm an imposter! From today onwards, I'm your substitute, your servant. I'll do anything you want. Attend boring press conferences, deal with those stupid politicians, or be your shield. As long as you don't hurt me, I'll do anything!"
