Chapter 36 Clearing the Stronghold

Once everyone had arrived, Jon went to the central square. He took out a round metal device from his storage bag, pressed the switch, and the device lit up with a silver light.

Jon placed the device on the ground, and a huge portal appeared before them. Jon put away the device and entered the portal first.

As a second-level wizard, it would be easy for Jon to wipe out this stronghold with only a few first-level wizards, but there were too many of them, and Jon couldn't guarantee that he would eliminate them all. Besides, there was nothing of value to him in this stronghold.

His job is simply to stand by and prevent any unforeseen circumstances from arising and to eliminate any remaining criminals.

The group passed through the portal one after another, first the academy's full-fledged wizards, then the third-class wizard apprentices.

……

An unassuming forest in the Elokán region.

This place is filled with miasma and inhabited by rotten root tree people and soul-devouring tree spirits. Mortals dare not approach it, and wizards are too lazy to clean up this troublesome forest.

Little did they know that the Black Ring Crown people had secretly cleared out this place several years ago and set up a second ring base here.

Even today, several Black Ring members are preparing to carry out assassination missions as usual. Most of them are wandering wizards without academy backgrounds or those who have been expelled from the academy.

The miasma-filled environment only made them move even faster when they used the Shadow of Black Mist.

Suddenly, a strange, strong wind blew through, dispersing the miasma throughout the forest. They were blown down by the wind, their shadowy forms reverting to their original shapes.

Suddenly, a huge silver-white energy shield immediately enveloped the entire forest.

Before they could react, another beam of light swept over them. The Black Ring members felt their Black Mist Shadow cultivation being forcibly triggered, and wisps of black mist emanated from their bodies.

"Damn it! I didn't expect we'd been discovered too!"

"Go and inform Lord Bliss immediately!"

……

"Bang!!"

A fireball struck one of the assassins squarely in the head; it was the apprentice from Everfrost Spire who had attacked. The full-fledged wizards had already flown to their stronghold.

The assassins of the Black Ring Crown and the apprentices of the Everfrost Spire engaged in a small-scale battle here.

Fireballs and ice spikes flew and collided across the battlefield, while several plumes of black mist swirled among the crowd.

Experienced apprentices quickly erected solid ice walls to disrupt the movement of the black mist, covering the agile apprentices with wide-ranging sorcery.

The black mist shadow of the Black Ring Crown can only penetrate ordinary matter. High-concentration elemental magic is equally effective against them, severely affecting the maintenance of their black mist shadow magic.

Many assassins who used their bodies to dodge by turning into black mist or shadow were hit by the witchcraft, and their bodies, along with the dark particles, were forcibly blasted apart.

Some experienced apprentices have already trained their own magical pets. These bloodthirsty beasts wield their sharp claws and work with their masters to tear their opponents apart.

The body-refining wizard apprentices were surrounded by elemental energy several times denser than that of the great knights, so ordinary witchcraft could not cause them much damage, and they directly charged towards their targets while enduring the attacks.

Most of the assassins in the Black Ring Crown lack academic backgrounds and their understanding of witchcraft is clearly inferior to that of college apprentices, but they have the advantage of organized training and long-term experience in assassination.

These assassins and killers can still easily outmaneuver the well-trained academy apprentices.

The shadows of the black mist remained formidable, and with the members' seamless teamwork, many apprentices had their throats slit by assassins who silently passed by while they were casting spells.

Nora had only recently been promoted to a third-class wizard apprentice, and her major was the Shadow of Black Mist, which granted her significant immunity.

The Dark Element can only unleash dark tentacles to entangle enemies and assist nearby allies.

The assassin, Devor, noticed that the girl in front of him had weak mental strength and that most of the witchcraft she used was dark magic. He deduced that she had just been promoted to a third-level wizard apprentice, so he prepared to deal with her.

Devor unleashed the Shadow of Black Mist, his strength having reached the stage where he could use "Black Mist." Devor's entire body transformed into black mist as he rushed towards Nora.

As he approached Nora, Devor materialized his upper body and unleashed fire blades with both hands, slashing at Nora.

Nora realized that the enemy behind her was clearly targeting her, so she quickly dodged to the side. Two fire blades slashed towards Nora's original position in a fork shape, leaving two scorch marks on the ground.

Nora unleashed the dark tentacles she had prepared, while simultaneously controlling her staff to fire several shadow missiles at Devor's materialized upper body.

Devo had anticipated that the attack would miss, and calmly dodged the dark tentacles that were about to bind him, while the black mist shadow he had prepared in advance enveloped his upper body.

The missile pierced through the black mist and landed on the ground, leaving several holes. The black mist trembled slightly before rushing towards Nora.

Nora and Devor engaged in a fierce battle. Devor's control over the shadow of the black mist had reached its peak. Nora's attacks were all passed through by Devor. While controlling the local black mist, Devor was also able to materialize and attack Nora at just the right time.

Nora's wizard robes soon bore numerous scratches, but the rune leather armor beneath her perfectly defended against the attacks, leaving her body unharmed.

Devor sensed something was wrong, his eyes narrowed, and he swung the fire blade toward Nora's pale neck. Nora used her staff to block the fire blade, and the flames burning on it scorched the staff.

"Bang!"

The fire blade suddenly exploded, leaving scorch marks on Nora's hair and causing a slight tremor in her consciousness. Ignoring the blast injury to his hand, Devor took advantage of Nora's dizziness and turned to kick her hard.

"cough!"

The blow was very powerful. Devor himself was a formal knight, and Nora was kicked into a tree. She felt a sweet taste in her throat and coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Just as Devor was about to continue his attack, he felt something on his back. He turned around and saw an alchemical bomb pressed against his back by dark tentacles.

During the fight, Nora had already placed a curse trap on him using her magical ring to weaken his senses, which Devor had not noticed before.

"boom!"
