Wizard: Starts with Advanced Meditation
Chapter 16 Conflict
"Not bad," Hughes said casually.
This Frost Blast spell was improved by Seraphina, increasing the power of the explosion and also allowing for remote control of some ice elemental explosions.
Because most of the monsters in Everfrost Spire have frost resistance, which puts wizards who specialize in ice magic at a disadvantage, ice magic with its powerful physical attack is highly favored by apprentices.
Of course, this improved Frost Blast spell consumes more mana. Hughes can currently cast it twice, and the ice element on the sword can explode once more.
Just as I was about to test the power of the sword thrust, the damage to the humanoid puppet seemed to have reached a critical point, and the runes on the humanoid puppet lit up.
The puppet slowly transformed into a ball of dark blue liquid. After a few seconds of wriggling, the liquid gradually reformed into a complete humanoid puppet.
"Tsk tsk, these runes are good. If I could fuse my weapons into something like this, I would have so many more ways to attack," Hughes muttered, staring at the humanoid puppet.
Following further experimentation, Hughes discovered that the already applied Ice Blast spell could control whether or not the explosion mechanism was triggered; if it didn't explode, the sword would deal frost damage.
Just as Hughes was about to try to speed up his spellcasting, a wind blade swept towards his left leg. Hughes was startled and quickly dodged to the right, but his robe was still hit by the wind blade, which cut a gash.
"Look at him, the future Potions Master can't even afford to mend his wizard's robes when they're torn!"
Hughes glanced at him and saw a tall boy with a flamboyant short haircut who was looking at Hughes with disdain.
There weren't many people around, and even those who noticed this place didn't say anything. Most people were cherishing their time in the practice area, with only a few apprentices who were recovering their magic looking on with amusement.
The academy doesn't prohibit killing, as long as it's not too blatant, it can be done openly or covertly. After all, although the distinction between black and white wizards has been blurred, the relevant practices are still maintained.
"Someone like you dares to approach Valerie? Only I, Booker, am worthy of the lovely Valerie." As he spoke, a disgusting smile appeared on Booker's face.
Hughes felt bewildered. He didn't know Valerie at all; they had only chatted on the airship and were merely nodding acquaintances afterward. How could one of her suitors suddenly appear and cause him trouble?
Booker pressed forward relentlessly, a flash of red light in his eyes, and another wind blade shot out. However, this wind blade was very unstable, and Hughes dodged it by sidestepping.
Taking advantage of the moment when Booker was chanting the incantation, Hughes aimed the tip of his cross sword at Booker's chest, and once again imbued the blade with Frost Blast. With a burst of power from his legs, he lunged forward and thrust at Booker.
Booker sensed danger and quickly crossed his arms to protect his chest, but he obviously didn't see Hughes practicing witchcraft. He thought it was just a simple enchantment of ice element on the sword. The sword tip pierced into Booker's arms without any surprise.
"Hiss," "Boom!"
"Aaaaaah!!! Aaaaah!!"
Booker lay on the ground, his face contorted in pain. Both his arms were half severed, the wounds covered in frost, not a drop of blood flowing. His two severed hands lay silently on either side.
Hughes glanced at it and, remembering that some wizards would add some magic to their storage bags to prevent others from opening them, he used the tip of his sword to lift the storage bag from Booker's waist.
Upon inspection, it was found that there was no Booker's mental imprint, and it could be opened directly.
The storage bag couldn't hold another separate space, so it couldn't fit into Hughes' own storage bag.
However, he heard that those who become official wizards and are skilled in spatial magic can create their own exclusive space. Hughes hung the storage bag on his waist and turned to look at Booker.
Hughes felt something was off, and as if possessed, he pointed the tip of his sword at Booker's neck and asked Booker, who was lying on the ground, "Who told you I got close to Valerie?"
Feeling the coolness on his neck, Booker ignored the pain in his arm and was about to say something.
"Hmph, tsk..."
Booker's eyes suddenly became bloodshot, and two streams of black blood flowed from them. He stopped breathing in the blink of an eye.
Hughes was shocked. He had seen the body of the servant after he died, and according to those present, the servant's eyes had been bleeding black blood at the time, just like before.
This situation must be manipulated by someone. He looked up abruptly, but found nothing unusual. Some apprentices recognized it as a curse and quickly called the enforcement team to deal with it.
Hughes was taken in for questioning, and after being asked a few questions, he was released. In the distance, a pair of eyes watched Hughes with a mocking gaze...
Hughes returned to his dormitory and wrote to his father about the incident and recent events, preparing to inquire about the autopsy findings of some of the servants.
Putting the threat aside for the time being, Hughes opened the storage bag with great anticipation and found only a set of wizard robes for a first-class wizard apprentice, a used academy meditation crystal ball, 6 magic stones, and a notebook about the biological modification of the Crimson Flame Lizard.
"Really poor"
Hughes put the notebook into his storage bag, preparing to study bio-modification, a course most wizards would consider essential. The contents of this notebook had never appeared in the notebooks his father had given him, so it would be a good opportunity to enrich his knowledge base.
Many wizard apprentices undergo biological modifications later in their careers to enhance their strength, and some even rise to the rank of Grand Knight through these modifications.
The difference between a Great Knight and a Knight is that the Great Knight can form a life force organ within its body, which can unleash the greatest magic power.
Their magical power is similar to that of a regular third-class wizard apprentice, but it is naturally very difficult for a Grand Knight to advance. There may only be a few Grand Knights in the mortal world's empires, and these people are even more noble than kings.
However, in the past, the highest level of humans in this plane was only comparable to a third-class wizard apprentice, so it's no wonder that they were kept by vampires in the abandoned land as food.
Some magical beasts also rely on their life force to generate magic. Wizard apprentices would study the physical structure of these magical beasts, process their magical organs, and then transplant them into themselves.
This is also why many knights follow wizard apprentices; they are eager to advance further, and the apprentices need advanced experimental subjects.
Booker put these items into his storage bag. The storage space in Booker's storage bag was intact and had no expiration date, which saved him the magic stones needed to replace the storage bag.
Speaking of Booker, this guy is probably a member of the Shadow Weavers. I wonder if Rice will stand up for him. Anyway, he's probably made friends with Ryoko...
Surprisingly, Rice was not unreasonable. The next day, he sent someone to apologize to Hughes, and the matter was dropped.
However, Hughes knew that Booker must have been subjected to some kind of witchcraft, since his servant had been like that back then. If it weren't for the timely support of his soul from his previous life, he would probably have died long ago.
