The Undercurrents Behind Chapter 15

Where there is sunlight, there must be shadow.

The news that Taya and Gus were together spread quickly through unknown channels within the academy's aristocratic circles.

"Another foolish young man is trying to climb the social ladder."

"Gus, how dare you approach our target?"

"How dare a lowly person lay a finger on the four beauties of the academy?"

The sound of noble youths discussing something came from the Demon Swordsman's dormitory. Sith Solomon's eyes were gloomy as he swirled the wine glass in his hand.

Tayya was one of his preferred choices. Not only was she beautiful and from a good family, but she was also tactful and knew how to behave appropriately in social situations.

"We have to teach those inferiors a lesson." The blond-haired youth, Joey Franz, sat on the armrest of the wooden sofa, taking a bite of his bright red apple. "You're not planning to keep putting up with this, are you?"

"It's not that simple. Guss is an outstanding student at the academy, attracting the principal's attention, and he also has the Blue Rose family behind him. Besides, the two haven't publicly developed a relationship. It's just Guss's one-sided affection; the Blue Rose family is recruiting talent normally." Sith slowly examined his slender fingers, his effeminate face clouded with gloom. "From both a moral and logical standpoint, I have no relationship with Taiya, and there's no reason for me to interfere. Recklessly taking action won't garner public support; people will laugh at me for being petty, and it will damage the Solomon family's reputation and standing."

"I'm truly impressed by you. You're the heir to a marquisate, and the Solomon family is the wealthiest family in the world." Joey couldn't help but frown.

"The Blue Rose family has been granted the title of Marquis in the Noble Council for six consecutive years. Perhaps in a few more years they will be able to stand on equal footing with Solomon. My father told me that the Blue Rose territory on the border has a very strong military, so don't provoke them lightly," Sith warned earnestly.

"Hahaha, fine! You can keep holding back. I don't want to hear news of Gus suddenly getting into trouble." The blond boy laughed and got up to leave.

As childhood friends, Joey knew Sith's character inside and out. He was as cunning and ruthless as a venomous snake, with a narrow mind and a petty nature. The calmer and more indifferent he seemed, the more likely he was to take action.

Concealing one's emotions is an essential skill for aristocratic heirs. Hysterical madmen are, after all, a minority.

They prefer to operate covertly, becoming players on the chessboard by detaching themselves from the consequences of their actions. Even if the opponent seeks revenge later, they have no target. The player can then consider making the next move until the opponent is completely defeated. The poor pawn remains unaware of who is controlling its fate.

Intrigue and scheming can kill without shedding blood.

At the gates of Violet Academy, Taiya bid farewell to her sisters one by one, remembering every single one of their dozens of names.

"Gus, now I'll take you to find my brother." Taiya turned to look at the crew-cut youth.

"Miss Taiya, I reckon the young master will be very busy these next few days. Let's schedule a time after school starts," Mussophie suggested.

"He always goes into seclusion for a long time, I wonder what he's doing?" Taiya said thoughtfully. "Remember to remind him! Don't let him miss the opening ceremony!"

There's only one day left until the start of the new school term.

Tai'an continued to spend all his time in the lab, seeing no visitors from morning till night. Two neighbors came to visit once each, and Taiya, still unwilling to give up, came once more. Apart from that, there were no other outsiders.

The Hegel Wizarding Division is quite quiet; in other divisions, you'd likely find very confident girls offering themselves up.

After three days of shaping, the rough, dark raw material shrank considerably, transforming into the shape of a walking stick, a style favored by many elderly wizards. The weight remained almost unchanged; after removing some impurities and adding some auxiliary materials, it still weighed around one hundred kilograms.

It's important to understand that a typical one-handed sword usually weighs between three and five kilograms, while a greatsword weighs no more than ten kilograms. Even the most basic magic wands used by spellcasters weigh only a few hundred grams at most. Even legendary weapons, after being artistically embellished by bards, rarely reach such an exaggerated weight; perhaps only the Cyclops's mace can be compared to them.

Taian raised his wand and waved it wildly, stirring up gusts of evil wind. He could use it with ease in normal circumstances, and his body, which was adapted to natural energy, had been strengthened to an exaggerated degree without him even realizing it.

"It's still too ugly! Maybe we should just make it into a sword!"

Wizards using magic swords isn't unusual; many powerful wizards throughout history have wielded them. However, wands are generally more convenient to use, allowing for easier angle adjustments and aiming. Magic swords are somewhat cumbersome, and their weight of a few kilograms can't compare to the dexterity of a few hundred grams. In the early stages of combat, wizards using miniature wands had a significant advantage, greatly increasing their chances of victory, and this gradually became the mainstream approach. Later in the game, with various spell slots offering mental shields, defensive magic, and damage transfer abilities, wizards could comfortably play defensively without needing to seize the initiative. Thus, the wand, maximizing its power, became prevalent among high-level spellcasters.

"Young Master, you've finally emerged from seclusion!" Mussophie began to report on the events of his seclusion. First, there were several visits from his two neighbors and his sister. Then, there was the follower recommended by his sister, whom he needed to meet with to accept their allegiance. Finally, he was to attend the opening ceremony at the arena at eight o'clock tomorrow morning.

Tai'an took the tea offered to him, moistened his dry throat, and cleared his thoughts. He could ignore the two neighbors, and he didn't need to attend the opening ceremony, but his older sister, Taiya, was a big problem.

He couldn't possibly be truly heartless, devoid of desire, and completely estranged from his family.

The eldest sister is like a mother to Tai'an. During Tai'an's childhood, Tai'an was raised by Tai'ya, and their relationship was even closer than that of their parents.

"What exactly is going on with these followers?"

"Miss Taiya knows a rather nice young man." Musophie praised him subconsciously. Gus had a good first impression of him, with clear eyes, a sunny and cheerful temperament, and a youthful innocence and shyness.

"Bring people over when you have time! Preferably before noon tomorrow!" Tai'an instructed.

"Yes, young master!" Mussophie responded loudly.

A few days later, only a few wisps of smoke rose from the kitchen. The aroma of stir-fried dishes wafted everywhere.

In the next small house, Silver Moon sat at the dining table, surrounded by a sumptuous feast, yet there was no one to share it with. She rested her chin on her hand, lost in thought.

It's so boring here; I don't even have a single friend. Maybe I could hang out with the guy next door…

"Miss! Is the food not to your liking?" asked the maid, Rosanna.

"No, you did a great job." Silver Moon scooped up a spoonful of mashed potatoes and put it in her mouth. The aroma of potatoes, minced meat, and braising liquid blended perfectly. A classic court dish passed down for hundreds of years, it's so delicious you'll never get tired of it.

"In the future, try to be more frugal. It's such a waste to not be able to finish all this food."
